... and a vampire.

I dig the mounted hero they've shown. However, I can't say I'm a fan of the archer cavalry. It's not for the mounts, it's for the damn hats again. It's less egregious than the Alarith Stoneguard at least... And leaves me interested in seeing what else they've got to show off on the Saturday reveals.

I'm probably going to pick up the archer cav since it's unique and I'm wanting more varied Lumineth armies, despite the weird hats they've got. Anyone actually really like them?

Im alright with the hats, by and large they dont bother me but i know its a common thing people pick on so fair enough

Along with the sentinels, main thing I dislike is the lack of variation. The archers are all nearly in the same pose. I dont know why they did that. The old empire archers had a good amount of variety whereas the lumineth archers are like more detailed peasant bowmen.

Good point on the poses. I suppose they felt like they needed to go for a sculpt that implied more movement and action in it. They could have done with some sculpts where the bows were not drawn, and they were at a relaxed holding position, just to have some nice variance.

On the other hand, maybe they're going for a more regimented look of things with the army? Like, the unit has just received and order to ready and aim their weapons, preparing to let off a volley all together.

They want the units to look like they are working together in a disciplined, controlled fashion. I would say the pose consistency is a core design element, and imo really sells the army look well.

Love 'em. I love the whole concept of the Aelementari Temples and I love the hats.

Come at me, hathaters!

The Empire Archers also built Huntsmen, a skirmisher unit.

The Sentinels are supposed to be able to 'rank up' via the Shining Company rules too.

Agreed. I know when I built the Lumineth I have I went to some trouble to make sure all the spears of the Wardens were at the same angle and spaced evenly apart when they would be in a Shining Company formation. I did the same the bows on the Sentinels. When I field my Dawn Riders I will make sure they are placed in such a way that the unit looks like they were dropping their lances like a wave. The only thing I didn't bother with was the Stone Guard. Though I did briefly think about grouping up like models and dividing the between the mallets and picks to also give them a more uniform appearance. I want my Lumineth to appear like a legendarily drilled military army with preternatural precision and attention to detail.

I did the opposite with my old Chaos Warriors having their weapons and shields at all sorts of angles. Well as much as the old sculpts allow. Even before the Lumineth were a thing. I wanted to make sure that my Chaos Warriors visually showed signs they didn't have much teamwork within their units with a sort of 'every man for himself' vibe. Only the sheer power of the individual warriors making up for their shortfalls of a disciplined, well-coordinated fighting force.

So a quick note:
It's fantastic seeing that not only are they doing a Vanari hero(FINALLY!) but how many people have picked up the fact that he's basically a precursor to an Akhelian King?

We know that the Idoneth have some 'idealized' versions of their ties to the Lumineth in their wargear. I loved seeing the helmet, shield, cloak, and armor being extremely close to an Akhelian King's gear. Kinda want to try my hand at converting up an Akhelian King using this wargear now.

OH! And it looks like there is a melee version of the Hurakan Windchargers. Greatswords apparently in the middle.
False alarm, nothing to see here.

I have to admit.... these are the first ones since quite a while that do nothing for me. I even liked the Mountain Cow and bought it. But these are all a hard pass for me. I escpecially dislike the vampire. Tactical rock + bat hair + mace is not the aesthetic I was hoping for.

Bu kudos to GW to pick up the Kangaroo joke and poke fun at themselves.

I really like them. Still not interested in Aleves, but I like the sculpts. The mounted hero is the most interesting one to me.

Not exactly... the Lumineth came AFTER the Idoneth, and both are successors to the High Elves of old though with a certain amount of deviation and adaptation. Prince on Steed/Monstorus Steed was very much a thing.

Overall I like them. And the hero.
Maybe/Maybe not their helmets. If I decide I don't like the helmets I'll just do like I've done with my Stoneguard & do a head swap with either the existing spearmen or archers.

That vampire? Bleh. Good thing I'm not in the market for a GW vampire....

Possibly more of a reference to yesteryear when peasant bowmen were mono sculpt?

That Vampire Lord is amazeballs.

I want to get it and put it on a 25MM just to use in my 5E games as a character or NPC BBEG. Love the bats and the mace is fething sick. We never see a lot of the other weapon types in AoS. Flails, Halbreds, Morningstars and Maces. Hope the vampires get more!

Really not keen on the vampire lord. The hair is too silly for my tastes, though I get why some people would like it. But without the hair its just so... basic. It looks like a standard model in a battleline unit. Chaos Warriors have more going on. Its just doesn't say lord to me at all.

However! The new vampire shown for Underworlds looks amazing.

Agreed. A flowing cape like Vlad and Mannfred and to an extent, Konrad's cape of bats would've really conveyed a sense of importance/nobility.

Also agreed. I like everything I've seen of the Underworlds warband, unless they really derp up the vampire who they've only shown the silhouette of, it'll be a hit.

Have talked about it in the N&R thread but I love the basicness of the hero. It is a generic hero on foot, it should be basic and that provides a ton of room to customize with bling and really make it your own. Compare to already having bling sculpted on, where it already has a specific look and is often difficult to remove. It also gives room for named characters and more elite ones to have more bling and stand out thanks to the contrast. I hate when my super lord looks underdressed compared to some basic bro on foot.

I don't mind the Lumineth (ungainly tall helms no, mounts yes), but that vampire is really ugly. From the hairbats to the tactical rock, everything is off to me.

If you want boring ol' horses, then get Vanari Dawn Riders. They're "normal" cavalry.
If you want archers to go with them? Get Auralan Sentinels.
Spearmen/infantry? Auralan Wardens.
All of the mentioned units are Vanari--meaning they go with the new character, the Lord Regent. We have a history of weird mounts for Elf characters across all the old Elf factions---from griffins to dragons to great stags to cold ones or chariots. Whatever this one is? It's fairly tame as a concept.

The new mounted archers? That's an Aelementari Temple, not part of the Vanari standing armies. Think of the difference between the Craftworld Aspect Warriors compared to the Craftworld's standing armies in the lore.

Well I guess I'll voice the unpopular opinion that the new vampire lord (or lady to be more accurate) is pretty cool. I would have liked a full helm version if only because I don't enjoy faces (hard to paint and don't always look good), but I do enjoy the hair style. The painting is a bit drab and too cartoonish, but that's the new style of GW.

The new Lumineth stuff is great and needed since there was little variety in the Lumineth range so far. I'm surprise they are going to need a new rule books/apendix for them so soon after their release, but I guess that's COVID trouble.

Hoping the Broken Realms book has rules for a City that can take 1 in 4 Lumineth (Or just adding that to the Phoenicium)

Does the Lumineth book make any reference to anything like that?

Is it just me, or is Broken Realms showing the potential to reorganise the factions?

Not just compiling stuff, but Morathi shifting to Chaos or Destruction (only an example, and a crap one) etc?

Nope. Morathi still clearly fits into Order just as much as before. If anything more so given she is full on empire-building now.

No, because we're still keeping the same kind of archetype.

Morathi didn't destroy Anvilgard--she took it over.

If they keep going with the soulblight releases ill be tempted to restart that project.

For the vampire lord on foot, im not quite so keen on it as it is, but i think its a very good start to making a lord that looks like he's just coalescing out of a swarm of bats, just need to add a bunch more of them behind him and blur up the definition on his back. Always wanted to have one those. I also like the mace with that idea as it has a weight and brutality to it that would be surprising for something materialising out in front of you.

If your attack is going too well, you have walked into an ambush
