Does reading Dakka affect your buying habits?
For example, I was amped about a new line of paints —- due to reading about them here.
Then, after a ton of back and forth on the forums about how the paint behaves, I decided to not risk buying.
Regular and often price increase announcements have also made me more supportive of garage operations since our group is older and focuses on off brand gaming.

What about you?

Probably not, as i've got only a certain amount of disposable income,

but Dakka does (influence) make me buy different stuff but showing me things i might not have come across myself, and sometimes showing me something i thought i wanted wasn't as cool as i initially thought (or wasn't as good quality)

Dakka makes me WANT to buy more stuff, but luckily I've managed to mostly keep my wallet in my pocket. I barely have time to hobby or game, so as much as I want to get more and do more, after 20+ years in the hobby I'm past a lot of the FOMO.

The Swap and Shop section does get me to pull out my wallet depending on what shows up.

I bought those paints despite the thread.

But

I’ve lost a lot of money to Kickstarter and “Miniature Market Sale” threads.

Not really, I generally only buy for projects I want to do or have on the go (or because its an impulse buy, which is why there is now a 1/35 T-35 enroute to me)

Dakka is certainly one of the influences in what I buy. I don't know if more is the right word, but it helps give me some broader horizons when new things are suggested. Plus sometimes seeing what people have converted, painted or done with models that I might already know of, gives me new ideas to follow and to adapt.

Certainly as a site that talks and interacts with the hobby I'm interested in, Dakka has an influence on my purchasing habits

I end up spending more because I hang around here. Too many users posting pics of rare or limited edition minis which I missed but which I love the look of.

I also got into AK 3rd gen paints through Dakka. They are slowly replacing all my other acrylic paints. PS did you know that AK is founded by Vallejo?

Well, if it weren't for various threads on Dakka, I never would have gotten into Dreadball (the second best game I've played in the last 20 years) or Frostgrave (the best game I've played in the last 20 years), not to mention games like Kings of War, Deadzone, 5 Parsecs. Also, I first learned about Bad Squiddo from a thread in the N&R forums. So, yeah, Dakka has completely revised my buying and gaming habits.

For sure, dakka exposes me to new brands and it also certainly shapes mine and all of our perceptions of what is a good/bad model, nobody's immune to peer pressure.

I'm really terrible for impulse buys, so actually try and not spend too much time in N&R sometimes - end up getting really enthused by something and then buying into a new system that I never get around to actually playing!

And for kickstarters too, think I've spent an awful lot on those having first read about them on the forum - most of those have been great and I've been pleased with my purchase, but have had the odd one that hasn't delivered or I'm still waiting for! (Gamezone Heroquest for instance).

Paints, new model companies and rulesets. All get delved into thanks to DakDak.

Dakka also steers me away from a lot of Kickstarters.

Generally no effect on my buying from Dakka. Always been a cheapskate, second hand, indie gamer.

There are however a few toys I've sought out after seeing them on this thread: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/689888.page

I won't say that I buy more due to Dakka, but it's true that the threads in this site have expanded my miniature horizon. Especially the KS threads.

Very much the same for me, I don't actively search for new miniature companies and Kickstarters, but I read News & Rumors constantly so I end up seeing a lot more minis than I normally would. And with that it naturally follows I buy stuff I normally wouldn't have.

I prefer to buy from miniature manufacturers that *don't* support the overthrow of democracy.

Dakka, no, not at all. YouTube, definitely, because I can see a product in action.

Though sometimes I dive in to find out for myself firsthand regardless of feedback from others.

Nope.

Kickstarters and file-selling I avoid on principle, army projects are based on whims that come and go.

Expanding into other games is _absolutely, entirely_ dependent on a 'fairly local' store that actually supports it with a community. If it isn't, then whatever. Its likely something that will pass in a couple months anyway- probably before I get a force together.

Efficiency is the highest virtue.

I actually bought a few as testers because of that thread! There were an awful lot of mixed reviews, but I wouldn't have known they existed without the forum.

I keep looking at alternative models for the GW games I play. But, since a couple of Chapter House purchases I saw listed here, I haven't bought a lot of non-GW stuff.

I do buy more GW games than I otherwise would though, based on GW leaks posted here.

I mean that's probably a good thing that Dakka discourages you from consuming miniature products. Last I checked white metal, lead, resin, finecast, plastic and all are NOT healthy things to eat!
