So the enemy this time is slightly skinnier Kong as opposed to Mecha Godzilla.

The last one was exactly what I was hoping for.

The description (I only heard it read so don't have it to copy and paste) makes it sound like it is going to look at the war between Kong and Godzilla's ancestors that was hinted at in Kong vs Godzilla.

It may jump back and forth between Kong setting up the new subsurface world and the past showing what happened leading to titans saying "deuces" to that hidden world.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

All the legendary Big Monster movies so far have been my favorite versions of these characters. So sure. Make more. I am game.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

I'm shocked this franchise is still going. Skull island was the only halfway decent film of the bunch.

I’m keen for this. Greatly enjoyed the others in their series,

The last three Monsterverse movies have delivered the Kaiju action and human-level cheese I crave from Godzilla films. I’m in.

Care to expand on this? As a life long hardcore G fan, I feel these films have been worthy (successors?) to the Toho series. I'll grant you Skull Island was amazing both as stand alone movie and as a wider part of the franchise. Better then GvK for me at least, which for me lacked something, although I'll be damned if I know what thatsomething was. But the movies themselves are hardly bad. The SFX are fantastic, as have been the sound tracks. The plot is about as deep and meaning for as you'd want from a G film and so far the cast (aside from Vera Farmiga, who didn't do much for me in KotM) has been great.

An oft over-looked and under appreciated, yet vital aspect of the Godzilla films dating back to since forever!

I think we can use the Michael Bay Transformer films as an example of getting that mix woefully wrong.

Both feature super sized combatants beaten the living snot out of each other. Monster verse still has the upper hand there though, as least you can tell who’s hitting who, with what, and where. It’s not a blurry mess of wasted CGI.

Both feature the human factor. But the Monsterverse never loses sight of just who the audience is here for.

I thought the human cheese in GvK was a little too hammy for me. I thought King did a better job of playing it more straight.

My interest is piqued, although I am somewhat burnt out on this franchise already. It seems to have ran its course:

-Godzilla did excellent job building up the monsters, although it had bit too much humans talking and travelling.

-Skull Island probably overall the best, though Skullcrawler was bit anticlimatic main antagonist.

-King of Monsters had tons of Kaiu action, but human drama element was _really_ bad.

-G vs K was just all around bad with little or no redeeming elements.

There was recently a conversation about how, unlike other franchises, there are several years between each film instead of two or three a year. With marketing it certainly feels like there is less time than that.

KotM definitely has better human performances, but I just felt they got in the way of the action a little too much by trying to present the scale from their perspective. I prefer how GvK's cheese mostly just moves the plot forward but knows when to let the camera pan back and let us really see the fights.

KOTM would have the perfect amount of human cheese if they just cut out Wolf Dad, Crazy Ex Wife and Little Girl. Every scientist man and military person on the flying base was 100% on point.

Yeah, the 'terrorist section' was just too much, even if they did set up the sequel (somewhat).

Godzilla was just made too much of a wuss there. He was helpless against the Mechagodzilla without Kong and humans...

100% I've seen people say that the giant flying ship was to unrealistic and what not. Buuuuut.... Does anyone else remember Don Frye and his flying drill submarine? THAT's acceptable, but CCH Pounder and her flying equivalent of an aircraft carrier isn't? Get a grip people!

That's it! That's the something that doesn't sit right with me about GvK. They turned him into a wimp.
I mean, it's not like he can't be beaten in a fight and it's not unheard of for him to team up with other beasties either. That's all happened before. But he's never helpless like he was against Mechagodzilla.

Yes and even Kong needed help from damn humans to make tiny bit of progress against the Mech. It was too much nerfage for my taste.

A side note about "King of Monsters": is this the bluest movie ever made? Except for those parts which were completely orange? I know directors love those filters, but c'mon. I couldn't actually tell which parts of the movie were supposed to be underwater, and which weren't, they were all equally blue.

Counter argument.

Mechagodzilla was kind of designed to take down other Kaiju, one on one. The design had the benefit of human knowledge regarding existing powers and abilities,

Godzilla, so far as is evident, has never fought anything like Mechagodzilla at that point.

Indeed, Kong and Godzilla are victorious because the human creators of Mechagodzilla never expected it to fight a tag team, or that one of said tag team would be using a powered weapon.

Godzilla seemingly helpless until something turns the battle is pretty much a staple. Sometimes its human intervention, sometimes its an ally, most of the time its Mothra dying. The "oh no, Godzilla is going to die" scene is basically why they keep humans in the films.

Yeah, too often Godzilla films followed that Dragonball Z plot progression, which requires the first battle to stomp the hero and make the odds seem hopeless. Then the final battle is a n over correction where the hero seems totally overpowered and invincible. And the 90’s Godzilla films tended to rely on power ups and fireball fights to their detriment.

This is definitely true of the Toho films, as is having 40 uninteresting minutes of human interaction before the kaiju action really gets going.

This is how i took it. Mecha godzilla was purpose built to be exactly the threat that it was.

Godzilla was also tired from curb stomping that filthy gorilla so it isn't surprising that a mountain destroying Mechagodzilla would have the upper hand. I also get the impression from other conversations that people didn't realize how much bigger Mechagodzilla was; he was a roided out kaiju killing machine with Ghidora at the helm.

I suspect the next film will introduce Jet Jaguar, finally.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.
