And any Imperial faction was open to you, which would you join?
For me, I love technology, but have no real technical skill in why most of it works. That makes me perfect for a leadership role in the Legio Titanicus.
I would be happy as a clam (a techo-clam?) to be a part of the Collegia Titanica.
And if I ever screw up, I'll be a mindless servitor for the rest of my days, so I probably won't care.

With our knowledge of what’s really going on?
Just leave me on an Agri-World to work the land.
I’ll never get rich. I’ll never become a legend. But, with any luck, I’ll live out my years in relative peace, in relatively clean air, with relatively good rations.

The Throne Mechanicus does horrible things, directly influencing its pilot’s thought processes. As does a Titan’s MIU.
No. No thank you. Agri-World for me. There’s nutrient gruel to be made.

What's a little "Titanic Psychosis," (where the pilot becomes increasingly detached from reality) in the Imperium, this seems like it's a nice break from reality.
Plus none of the Titan Princeps in Dan Abnett's Titanicus were really nuts or anything. Just a tad stressed occasionally.
It's a tough job, but better than worrying about defending your home from cosmic horrors.

If I had to join a military faction, I think the Imperial Navy seems safer than most, even with the perils of Warp travel.

Why would you ever want to live in the 40k Universe? The entire point of the setting is that you DON'T want to be there, as a counterpoint to the likes of Utopian settings such as Star Trek.
You might as well ask about living in the world of 1984 or Trench Crusade.

Inquisitor.
You are beholden to nobody except the Emperor. Say you are doing a long term undercover operation monitoring some sort of threat. Meanwhile you can live a life of luxury and security so long as you don't flaunt your power flagrantly. So long as you stay clear of Inquisition politics, you could live a long extended life thanks to rejuvenation treatments and the ability to requisition just about anything you might want (within reason).

There are utopian worlds. It’s a big galaxy. I’ll go for a nice garden world somewhere in a quiet corner of the galaxy protected by ancient DAOT super magic tech they nothing can get through.

I'd probably end up either as a cultist or a servitor if spawned into the IoM. If I could choose though, I'd probably end up being a mid tier T'au office worker, would be a closest match to my IRL surroundings. Youknow, "working for the Greater Good" yet it still feeling a bit hollow somehow..

Alas, we get a pretty good idea of what being a bureaucrat looks like in 40k, and it's frequently pretty hellish in its own way. Ag-worlder is probably the safer bet even though that *can be* horrible as well.
Some sort of prim/feudal world could potentially be okay as well. Like, you'll die of infection when you get a splinter. But until then, you're likely to just be doing the gritty fantasy thing. No indoor plumbing. Good chance you'll be stabbed by someone. But you'll know the excitement and satisfaction of travel and combat as you raid the neighboring populations.
I'd suggest being a ganger for similar reasons, but hive worlds tend to be saturated with all sorts of nasty poisons and uncomfortable living conditions that I'd rather not deal with.
Despite the rampant bloodshed, the galaxy is a big place. There's a decent chance you'll never see an alien, daemon, or space marine. So the trick is to find a life that you can kind of enjoy/tolerate assuming nothing particularly "big" comes to your door.
|
ATTENTION. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

Do the dark angels' watchers in the dark count? If so, I'd join them. Since I don't think gw will kill off a major chapter I should be safe enough inside the rock (plenty of marines to hide behind in case of invasion).
The marines ignore the watchers and are used to them roaming around/messing around with relics. This gives me all the time I need to sift through the angels' hoard of archaeotech and decent chances of finding one or more gaming consoles and a screen to hook them up to. The beauty of it is that even if a marine sees me they'll simply assume I'm doing something important, they probably don't even know what videogames are.
Now regarding location, since the awakening of the lion and luther they have two vacant rooms, and especially luther's old room should be unused due to being "corrupted" or "evil" or somesuch -> an ideal spot for my gaming den. Once everything's set up maybe I could even get some of the other watchers to join in for some local splitscreen sessions. Then I just need to keep ignoring the increasingly louder whispers telling me to camp and spawnkill...
Edit: typo

They stopped existing after the Heresy.
And a lot of Remembrancers had some pretty awful fates.
Kasper Hawser got turned into a Daemon puppet. Serena DeAngelus got corrupted on Laer and killed herself after murdering a bunch of people to make art. Hell, every single Remembrancer from the 63rd Expeditionary Fleet got massacred by the Sons of Horus with only Keeler, Sinderman, and Oliton surviving the massacre. Oliton later became a host for the Daemon Samus as well and threw herself into the Phalanx's reactor to sever its connection to the material plane.

This is why I chose to attach myself to the largest ground force there is...
Sure, I'll eventually gain a Gollum level attachment to my titan (my precious), but I think it's a safer bet than being a farmer on a world that is ripe for daemonic incursion, Aeldari remembering they used to live there, or some random Tech-priests digging for archaeotech.... only to discover something much worse.
