Help me dakka dakka, you're my only hope! Just popped these shoulder pads off a couple of marines i got in a lot off ebay. Don't recognise them and a quick google search didn't turn up any matches. Does anyone know where they're from?

Phew, that's a tough one. Can't immediately recognize it, but judging from the overall looks I guess this could be from an old Blood Angels upgrade set (though that means the blood drop would be inverted). The style might also be a bit reminiscent of the older Vampire counts knights? Hard to tell. Do we know if these are GW parts, or could it be any of the other companies?

I will try googling it too and see what I can find, as I am now very much intrigued.

I didn't take a picture of the back but they are definitely the same size as marine shoulder pads. There were some other metal GW pads in the same batch and these two are the same size (except for the extra decoration). The design doesn't obviously match any marine chapter so they could be 3rd party.

Huh. I'm stumped. I've tried googling everything I could think of, but never came across these once...
What batch of Marines did these come on? Was it Rogue trader, 2nd edition, etc? Do you have a picture of the lot? Maybe that might give us a clue as to the approximate time frame.

Just out of curiosity, why do you need to know? Do you want to buy more to fill out a whole squad or what's your plan with this?

I want to say those are third party. They look nothing like First Born aesthetic. I've seen a lot of marines in my day and I don't recognize them.

I don't recognise them as GW. I also don't recognise them as any of the major 3rd Party marine part producers, but mostly because so few of them work/ed in metal.

Have you tried asking the person you bought them off if they know where they came from?

EDIT- They could be from Chapterhouse Studios. I have a feeling he may have worked in metal for some of his pieces.

OK, thanks for the replies. Sounds like its some random 3rd party then. Did try googling chapterhouse but didn't come up with anything remotely similar. Off to the bits box they go!

Chapterhouse did work in metal. I got a couple metal eldar figures from him back in the day. I don't think these are from chapterhouse. They seem much too old. Because while they may not be GW, they fit the aesthetic of RT era terminators. Their shoulder pads have that point on the bottom side.

Shape wise I’d say Custodes, but we’ve never had that style of Custodes in metal.

Definitely going to be third party.

It's the metal issue that gets me. I just dig through a couple of archive sites and I can't find anything that matches that.

What type of Space Marines were they attached to? That might give us a time frame of what third party companies existed at the time of the Marines that were used.

The ebay lot that they were from was a pretty random collection of marines that had been 'converted to nurgle'. There were some monopose marines (AOBR or similar), regular plastic marine and assault marines and even some bits of mkIV marines and chaos possessed. The shoulder pads came off a couple of regular marines so not sure that really helps ID them.
