I was also looking at the helmet of the Soulgrinder (eldar) and thought it might be neat to have the Farseer symbol on it devolving (or evolving) into a symbol of Slaanesh.

So, another thought on the throne, a large set lips or a mouth, with a long tongue sticking out as the cushion, and have it sliding under her to hit the base.

Hello,
So I got my princess today, and am very impressed with the sculpt as well as the lack of flash and mould lines. Upon pulling the wings out my wife was immediately intersted in them as thier detail is rather fantastic, (they might end up a purple due to this). There are many options that were included in the kit and I am very pleased with it. Now, to remember how to paint resin ..as I have not painted resin since my cannon of Khorne was new out of the box. I will attempt to post it with the coveings he kindly provided once she is painted. Thanks Sersi!

Ghiest1:

Glad you like her. I make a point to not ship models with flash, pin holes, or mold lines; because if I were paying my hard earned money, I'd expect it too. That's "Sersi Quality" I like your idea for the mouth and tongue image, but I'll probably use that for a chariot. I will probably use the melting Farseer symbol idea as well.

neil101:

Thank you!

sennacherib:

I use sculpey for the bigger models, its okay if you going to cast the model anyway, but to fragile for regular gaming use otherwise. Although I been practicing sculpting minis in the lately. Oh Feral Wood Elf army in the works...

Thanks, If you want some wings for your daemonettes, just PM me I'll hook you up.

Bit of an odd request, I'm sure, but how much would it be for the torso of DP#3, I think it would work really nicely for a conversion of mine.

I was wondering if you are going to make your Slaanesh Nurglings,I'd love to see them,I'd like to make my own some time,do you know any good models to start with?,I can't really buy 5 packs of familiers just for that one small Slaanesh imp-girl.

I hadn't really though much on nurgling replacement models. Nurglings are only really good with Epididimus really, and I ca't imaging wanting to field his rules. I agree with you a the Familiar mini though its really static and kinda ugly.

Hmmm.... I may have changed my mind on the nurgling stand-ins. I'd seen these before but, had only ever seen them in Wyrd's uber dark color scheme.

They need a theme though... How about the being the spawn of daemonettes and human liaisons. Murderous little human/daemon hybrids for the win.

Advantages:

1. They look to be the right scale.
2. They have magically floaty hair just like the current daemonettes.
3. Their creepy little deamon babies...awesome!
4. Just noticed that their anatomically correct.

That said, I'm reasonable sure that I can sculpt some very similar minis in alternate poses, using the Wyrd models as reference. I'll probably add a few to the Soulginder for the extra squick.

Anyway what do you think? Do they fit? Also if anyone have a good alternative please post them up.

More, Later....

(not my painting by the way, this is just for reference, etc...)

Disadvantages:

1. Their metal.
2. Their are only three poses (although that's still better than one)

So, daemon children born of human women you say, with an appetite for destruction you say... interesting, especially since they do look like little children (besides the whole daemon knife hands). But yes, I concur with Sageheart, I request your hand to be tried at this! They are already cool as is, but, judging by your work with, say, the Soulgrinder, I think you can pull something cool.

This army just blew me away when I first looked at this blog! The ideas are original and very well executed. To me the most important thing is that you are able to keep the theme consistent throughout all of the different types of daemons. Well done, Sir! I did have a question that has been plaguing me since I finished burrowing through the pages though, are you still planning on finishing the Soul Grinder like you had her in your sketch? Because one of the aspects of that sketch that I thought was just brilliant were the Eldar "wings" under her back. In the earlier pages you had some brass tubing showing where these attached and I don't recall seeing it any more as you got closer to finishing her. Are they still part of the plan? This blog actually got me to register here. Because it seems like I was the only one that noticed that they weren't there, and I feel that they are the finishing touch on an already fantastic model. I plan on getting one of these Soul Grinder models if you cast it, I'm just not sure how to incorporate it into my Death Guard! Thank you for your time and sharing your talent with the rest of us!

Thanks guys!

Here's what I'm working on right now.

Spawn of Slaanesh?

I put is my order for them today. I can't wait to get started on them; I can already see the poses : skipping, prancing, playing catch with a space marine helmet. If anyone has good posing ideas please post them.

Soulgrinder:

I finally figured out how I'm going to complete the Soulgrinder's throne, which was interestingly enough inspired by "The Neverending Story".... Any concept pictures will be up tonight. I've been working on the hand to get them more anatomically correct, as well as some minor work to the face. The throne still needs lots of work, but the rider will get cut up for molding soon. I'll probably make a tutorial on how it was done and the various molding details.

Seekers:

I have 30 of the new seeker modeled, with alternately posed riders, with lances, shields, and lariats (bondage...spam). I kept the saddles as they look really nice as is. I also did some reposing on the legs on the mounts. I'll probably, sculpt them a bit to add some more variation. While I loved the Diaz Seekers models, they just don't come close to the new mounts.

Herald's in chariots:

Since we now have excellent plastic seekers model's I'll be making 4 chariots. I'm using bits ordered HE chariot wheels and bases, with 2 plastic seekers each. The rest will by styrene and aves putty.

Flamers:

I have 10 daemonettes with ghoul arms, and sculpted fireballs in their hands. After seeing Clash of the titans I want to add some daemonettes with bows, as well. Archery is about skill and perfection, which suits Slaanesh's way of warfare, ie Anti-Khorne. I not sure is I want to string sting the bows or add arrows. Maybe just a magical bow, kinda like the Ranger from the old "Dungeons and Dragons" cartoon.

Male Keeper:

The big guy is getting reworked. I've been carving in additional detail, and re-fining and defining the muscles. The feet, and legs are completely hidious so their getting the lion's share of the work. Soon as that's done it getting molded and cast.

If the throne turns into a giant furry snake-dog, I am going to be fairly upset.

Liking the sound of things to come, especially the Slaaneshi archers (good call on that, never thought of it that way) and the spawn idea. I am really curious to see what you do with the seeker mounts too; I really couldn't get past the terrible posing of the legs on the new models, so I kind of blanked out before I could think of possibilities. Looking forward to seeing you make them awesome

And +4 nerd points for referencing the D&D cartoon. I am tempted to get that on DVD and force my wife to watch the entire thing in one sitting, without any explanation of wtf she is seeing. Loved that show as a kid.

Hello,
Sersi had been wanting to see some of his "ladies " painted, so I have been very busy and my camera was being wierd that day, but I got some wips for him and you to see. Now when I say wierd, it took some of the photos in B&W. I would like to know weather you like the gloss on the claws or non gloss.

Regards,
Carl

I think I prefer the non-gloss version, to be honest, though the blending seems better on the glossed one.

OT: Sersi, I received the torso . It will probably be a while until I get the chance to use it though. Keeping an eye out for the Nightbringer on eBay however.

I must agree with Cassandra here. I believe the gloss effects causes a disbelief, since they use the natural light in the room to give highlights. The non-gloss lets you (the painter) control the highlights, so you can let them be a part of the place that the "lady" exists in, rather than a part of the place that the viewer and the lighting exists in. I want immersion in the world of the "lady", I want the feeling that I am looking at something that is real in another world, another place. That this model is a reproduction, an image a representation of that thing/person/daemon. I do not want to fell like I am looking at a model.

Do you understand how I feel?

That gives me a thought, would it be interesting to spray a model with gloss to make highlighting easier, and then dulling it down with matte varnish after?

If you could set the lighting around the model in such a way that the shadows and highlights would fall in a "natural" way, sure. But I believe it's way more work than it is worth to set that up, and make it so that you could paint the model all over, without it and the sources of light differing in relative position. As a decent middle-ground you could probably set the model up with an appropriate source of light and take a few pics from different angles and paint based on the pics.

But even that might look fake, or at least bland compared to the average rather "cartoonish" look of the 40k universe. If 40k-look is your goal of course...

Oh wow! That looks great! I like the painting so far Ghiest1. The contrast between the purple and flesh tone work well together. You also can't go wrong with black armor...unless your me of course I suck at painting black. Is she magnetized? I've thinking about doing that. When I get serious about painting the army, I'll be taking Zenithal highlighting route myself, as you get the highlights fir "free" and the transitions so much smoother.

Be sure to keep us posted.

Sersi,
TY for the kind words. I did attempt to magnet her wings, however they just seem a bit to heavy for the 2 magnet system I was using. So I think I will pin them instead and just make her own personal pillow case. So how goes the Soulgrinder? I cant wait till she is ready . I will want one of those as well. I also have a friend I showed the wip of the princess to and he really likes her, so expect a email from him as well
