See, that's what I want to see next season instead of Mark Gatiss's lumpen abomination. Great job as always! Your WIPs are so much more than my final pics. Ah well, I bow to your grotty talent...

Not sure I get the reference graven... (OK, I'm sure I don't get the reference...) but thank you!

Here's the semi-final shot. Nothing left save for rust speckling (el-spongo) and mud. I got tired of listening to you guys winge on about my not hand-painting the checkers so I experimented a bit. Also felt it was a little smallish (which it is) when compared to the rest of the squadron, so I beefed it up a bit by adding a home-made dozer blade and a spotter (from the FW grot artillery crew set). I really like this little tank. All I need do is muck it up a bit which will do a nice job of blending everything together and it should be all set!

God I love these little tanks... and I have 3 more to do! Best of all I just scored 3 Forge World grot bombs off e-bay (not a huge discount but it saved me shipping) that I'm going to use to make grot deffkoptas... which is a project I've had in mind for a long time now.

Depending on my schedule... the tank should be done in a day or two. Keep your eyes peeled!

Couple of things that I notice that I'll put down here lest I forget... the grot has a "wrap" around a wrist and an ankle... have to paint that. Also I'll add some supporting struts to the dozer blade from the bottom of the tank. You don't see it of course IRL, but in the side shots it's pretty obvious that it needs something down there. Guess I can tackle those jobs on the 'morrow. Night all!

That is amazing - I love the highlighting of the checkerboard. You have devilishly good details!

Realy nice work gits. So much detail, and loads of great freehand. I agree with Graven, the checkers are topnotch, I bet someone will complain that they are too good for an ork

Actually that someone is ME.

I've always thought the idea of highlighting checkers was ridiculous as the only way they'd actually have highlights is if they were embossed... which they clearly aren't. HOWEVER... I can see some grot "artist" deciding that he was going to make his tank fancier than the next guys by trying to paint hoity-toity checkers on it... so there we go. It was an interesting painting experiment at any rate.

Got the dozer blade brace made, painted and in place during the wee hours of last night... so that little job's done. More progress tonight hopefully.

Great work, Gits! I agree with Graven and tipios; the chevks are beautiful, better than the decal! (Though my first thought was "those are too good for grots," too. ). I really like the flames on the yellow plate and the license plate, too.

Very nice depth on the figure. The spotter was a brilliant idea.

I think you need to paint a drop pod for like Mephiston, paint the pod blue, give it the patterns of the Tardis, and wrap a tiny scarf around his neck, or a fez, or a bow tie (bow ties are cool).

Finally complete! The weathering may seem a bit extreme... but for little grot tanks screaming around at high speeds *really close* to the mud (much closer than a full sized ork vehicle)... I think it's just right! The image is quite large and very zoomable.

Hope you like it!

Awesome!!

That Grot spotter is a perfect little addition as well. Feel like he should be slightly grubbier though....Otherwise, im pretty sure im not the only one whos thinking that weathering is just right, not obscuring too much, just adding flavour to an already flavourful model.

@KrimsunBaron: Thanks mate, glad you like them! I must admit that I've become inordinately fond of the little buggers...

whalemusic360 wrote:Only 1 more, any big plans?

Actually... this has got me thinking that I may plink away at the last two killa kans that I have left to paint/build. At least that way I'd have two full squads. The closest thing to "big plans" that I have in mind for the grots is to convert the 3 FW grot bombs I just picked up in grot versions of deff koptas. Need to hunt down some bits first though. There will eventually be 3 more tanks... but not just yet.

You make a good point about the grubbiness of the good spotter there Reiko. Guess I just didn't want to lose him completely in the model. I'll put some thought into it. (and thank you!)

Thanks tipios. Actually in looking at it... I should probably fling some dried mud up on the bottom of that one exhaust stack too. Won't take a new pick but consider it done.

I thought you would use the, exhaust is very hot, so would burn off the mud excuse

Well, to my knowledge... mud doesn't really burn... it just dries (so I'd use a light brown color & not "wet" it with gloss coat (which is how I get the wet mud look on the tracks and the closest mud spatters).

Popped in from the MW thread to check out the grot tanks, they are great! I would love to do some but I don't need to start another army. I did get the Forge World Grot bot as a sorry after I had to complain not a bad freebie, still in it's packet.

You know... I don't know how it happens but if you're writing a response and accidentally hit some key or mouse button with your thumb it wipes out the entire post completely without any way to go back. MAN that p*sses me off! Just wasted 15 minutes replying to everyone and writing a post for noting!

In short (because I'm not going to waste my time again), here's the next project for the grots. It's based on a very early ork Dread (yes, that was a dread). Rokkit launcher & grotzooka are 3rd party.

And thank you everyone for your kind words...

Thanks Guts! I'm pretty pleased with the way it turned out & the unit as a whole. Have enough of those little beauties for a second unit (or a full unit of actual Grot Tanks)... but I'm not going to push it. Those are best done as labors of love.

There were no kans back then. Just the dread... the orks were tiny though. Nearly grot sized (not quite) when compared to modern orks. I think it makes a great kan... I plan on using the other dread arm on the last kan I have to build (which is a metal one... but relatively "modern".

It's just amazing to me how long my poor orks have been neglected. I have just a ton of things I'd love to paint that I've had plans to do for a while. Ah well, one thing at a time, right? I should get the last two kans done just in time for my grot bombs & kopta conversion supplies to arrive from the UK. Have a small packet of orks to send off to Ifalna for painting. Once those are clear I can start thinking about some bigger ork projects (for both of us). OH, and I need to fix/rebuild and repaint two battlewagons. So much to do.... *sigh*

I'm only a couple votes short on that grot tank if anyone would like to help out!

I think one of you new Kans should be a righty. All you PC are on the same side. Are Grots gonna be that consistant?

Thanks SL!

Well... 70-90% of the world's people are right handed... there's no reason that grots wouldn't have a similar smattering. Since I'll only have 6 cans total... the odds are still in my favor that they'd all still have the same dominance as far as handedness. That... and there's probably a single dominant grot-mek that's determining the building of the kans... if not directly, then at least indirectly. If he thinks all kans could be right (or left) handed... that's probably how most all would be built, at least within the clan. However... I can easily make kan #6 reversed when it comes to the arms. If I remember.

Since this kan's a little bigger and I've based him on a fancy, slightly elevated base... I think I'll make this the "boss" kan. Will have to work out some kind of appropriate boss pole for him. Should be fun!
