Bought it last night on Steam, and played until 2:30 in the morning O_o

I have to say, it's completely -ruined- Oblivion for me I will never be able to go back to that game after playing Skyrim. It's also the first Bethesda game I've played that hasn't had a -single- bug yet. I can't believe I'm saying this, but they may have actually won my approval here! Plus, the Imperials are now Roman Legions, which auto-wins no matter how bad the game -could- have been.

Hell, the recommended requirements aren't even demanding at all, and yet everything looks so much better than Oblivion. I also like the vast improvements to the in-game menus. Way more streamlined than before. The new equipment upgrade system is also very welcome to stay, and it seems that repairing gear is no longer necessary. I -love- that. Animations are so much smoother it's not even comparable to Oblivion or Fallout, and the finishing moves are really fun to watch when you get one, though the 3rd person ones can ruin immersion when you're not expecting them.

Now then, I'll have to stop here, because I've got some Skyrim to play.

So are there actual classes and stuff? or is it more like, if you start wearing a lot of armor and chopping people with axes you develop your warrior skills, or if you start tossing fireballs a lot you are a mage, but really everyone can do just about everything?

No classes, you got it right on the last bit. You level up skills and get perks every level. You can put a perk into a skill set. Say something like, you are leveling up your One-Handed Weapons. You need a certain skill level in them to unlock certain perks within them. Usually 30-60-80-100 I believe.

Been loving it so far, seem to be going Mage/combat at the moment, something satisfying about a sword and flamethrower aimed at your opponents face.

There looks like there is so much to do in this game, crazy, never mind coming back and trying different styles, Chaotic Evil characters and so forth. Going loose a few months in this one.

Well I got to play for about 2 hours today, before telling my wife to just take it! I had to, I just....didnt want to see anymore fething hell this game is awesome so far, and do I really have to say just how beautiful it is? I found myself actually looking around and following animals just to see the forest and such. Such a cool ass game. And I killed some Draugrs (SP?) which is always a blast

Finding it pretty tough if i'm honest, tougher than oblivion, but will defo persevere. Think i should spend more time in the towns doing little quests rather than exploring. Some of the 'Field' creatures are quite tough imo. Oh and i am not really sure how to lock pick even though i have been doing them all.

I must say the shouts seem UTTERLY pointless atm, you have to wait a fifteen second recharge to momentarily staggers guys?! Seems a bit harsh, the speed burst one is even worse. Wow ONE speed burst, i am Yawning in anticipation of the 'Puzzles' it will be used (solely) for.

Another thing is that the game really isnt very user friendly, we're talking Morrowind levels here. I had no idea there was a sprint until i hit it accidently, also it doesnt really explain that the choice of race effects what skills you start off high in. Later on When the man asks you to do a shout, it doesnt even tell you what button to press or that they have to be equipped from the menu.

Weirdly the only good tutorial was for the various crafting stuff. Which i must say is quite fun.

My funniest moment so far was when i snuck up on a giant, did a critical backstab...... Which took off ~5% of his health and caused him to turn round and instagib me .....

I've loving it.

I'm using the Battlemage Template from the Guide and finding magic to be quite fun.

So far I've been instagibbed by three things: Snowy Sabre Cat while exploring a mountain, Three Giants at a campfire( at the same time), and the Super Hag at Orphan Rock(got my revenge here when I came back as a Werewolf). Killed my Second Dragon today while I was walking to the Mage's College for the first time( after 48 straight minutes of combat against said dragon. When he landed, I was trapped in a Ruined Fort and couldn't get to him without getting hit by the flame breath, followed by a Tactical retreat where I would heal myself and try again) I'm level 8 right now.

Yeah... I think if this game does anything, it's that it'll teach players to respect NPCs that are bigger than you. Until you're the right level, of course.

I apparently can wait, because, although I've pre-ordered, already paid for it, and own my own car with nothing better to do all day, I still haven't picked mine up. I'm actually kinda amazed I've held out this long.

But I know what I'm going to do. Starting character is going to go all Battlemage on everything, definitely. Prolly gonna go with Nuva, my Breton that I've played in every Elder Scrolls game (she likes Axes and ranged magic, along with Heavy Armour and Alchemy. Not the best Enchanter, though...) and then I'm prolly going to see if Fro'zhirr, my Khajiiti ice-Sorcerer will work better in this game. Also? I'm going to have to try some sort of Dervish character that runs around with two maces.

Ice Magic is really effective. Not as much resists it as you would think, and even if it is resisted, whatever you pegged with the Ice Spell is slowed.

Ice trolls are level 22 critters.

They also have a 50% weakness to fire.

Either avoid it for now or kill it with fire

To charge your magical Weapon, you need a filled Soul Gem.

You fill a soul gem by killing a monster while under the effects of a Soul Trap Spell. Certain monsters have Larger souls and therefore need larger Soul Gems.

Undead, daedra, and Robots do not have souls and cannot be soultrapped.

You can only trap human souls in Black Soul gems, which I have not found yet in Skyrim other than the Black Star but in Oblivion, were created at a necromancer's Shrine using a Grand Soul Gem ( More below)

The Shrine of Azura, near the Mage's College, has a Quest where you can get the daedric artifact Asura's Star, which is a reuseable soul gem OR The Black Star, which is a Reuseable Black Soul Gem

Been at it for a couple hours now.. I'm wandering around the barrow something or other, one of the dungeons near the first town. I'm pretty much all over the place with my character.. a little magic, melee and sneaking. I think I like sneaking so I'm gonna work at that some more. I'll prolly go for all thief stuff with just a little melee and magic thrown in

So, you can pretty much level up every single skill there is to the max, but you only ever get 1 perk per level?

Does Skyrim "scale" to your character's level like Oblivion or is it more like Fallout where there were just places you didn't want to go as a Level 1 Noob?

I heard it scales a bit, but nothing like Oblivion. I hope thats correct, because I once beat Oblivion and was like lvl9 or 10. I mean....no fething way would that happen. In the scheme of things, that would be like a town guard or a bouncer taking on the whole of Oblivion

I'm not catching levels of things, but I have walked into things that took me out in a single hit, or I needed to change tactics on and use lots of health potions to beat.

Giants and Mammoths are definately above your comfort zone at the beginning, instant kill from either as a lvl 5.

On a side note..

Spoiler:

I am thinking like Werewolves (cheers Soladrin for that info) being a vampire is in the game. I found a ruined tower with a group of Vamps in, after some close scrapes, it would seem my character is infected, had a couple of odd messages since the tower when its nightfall. No other signs yet, but I will let folks know if I go full vampire.

Ahh yes, Giants. I made the same mistake - saw one and my "MAIM! KILL! BURN!" instinct came out. I hit it with my sword, and then promptly got backhanded with such force that I flew through the air and crashed into the side of a mountain some 100 feet away. Queue world's smallest violin.

I'm finding it fairly buggy tbh.

Put a bucket on a shopkeepers head and you can rob him blind, and he won't ever notice.
Fight a dragon/giant/mammoth/troll from behind a rock and it wont be able to do any damage to you.
Every conversation is like talking to a manikin,
Every building/dungeon is a new loading screen
It's lacking any kind of climbing animation, so its still running down a 80 degree slope

oh, and the horses Id prefer too walk.

I -did- manage to kill one last night. There's an Orc village in the rift, near the Imperial camp and Darklight tower, with a gated wooden wall. I ended up descending the mountainside behind the village to get there, then promptly passed through on my way north. No sooner had I stepped onto the main road some 50 feet away, then I heard this loud grunt and my screen started shaking. I ran my sorry Roman-looking ass back up to the village, closed the gate, and spent about 10 minutes unloading arrows into its face while it stood on the other side of the wall being angry at me

Bethesda already knew about this bug before but decided to keep it in (similarly so with the bug that allows Giants to play cricket/baseball/other ball&bat based game with you and knock you across Skyrim). If you shove a bucket onto a guard's head you can commit any crime in front of him and he won't notice too.

That's not a bug. I'd like to know how well you can see when -you- have a bucket on your head! It's comic relief, and I for one love it. Cracks me up seeing someone walking around with a bucket jammed on their skull.

Fight a dragon/giant/mammoth/troll from behind a rock and it wont be able to do any damage to you.

Well that's not a bug either. Clearly those are just the ones that were dropped on their heads as baby Dragons/Giants/Mammoths/Trolls, and don't realize they can just go -around- the rock. No, in all seriousness though, I haven't seen this bug yet, and I've killed 3 dragons and a Giant. Closest I came to this was being up on a wooden wall firing at a giant, but he couldn't reach me anyway.

Every conversation is like talking to a manikin

Clearly someone never played Morrowind, Oblivion, or Bethesda's attempts to do Fallout. The animations are -way- better than any of those games. At least their faces show expression during main conversation now.

Every building/dungeon is a new loading screen

This isn't a bug. In fact, this isn't a point at all. If you want a fantasy RPG with no loading screens, go LARP.

It's lacking any kind of climbing animation, so its still running down a 80 degree slope

Not practical to bother adding it in. Adding in a rock-climbing function for scaling mountains would be a huge amount of work in an open-world game. This isn't a bug either. In fact, see above.

oh, and the horses Id prefer too walk.

The horse animations you do get a point for. They really are painful, but they've always been terrible from Bethesda. Skyrim's horse animations though are by and far the most awful, crappy thing I've ever laid eyes on. Thankfully we have fast travel.

I'd just like to comment on how absolutely beautiful Skyrim is compared to past titles. It really is a sight to behold.

The dragon fights are by far my favorite. I've killed around 5-6 of them (I'm around level 16, just finished the quest where I have to go up to High Hrothgar to see the Greybeards) and they really are random. I've had some that fly above me forever, breathing fire, and some that drop right in front of me and try to eat me.

Its a fairly glaring bug, after sitting behind a rock, I emerged to see the dragon so bewildered it ceased to attack me. Happened with the second dragon in the story, and with a pair who ambushed me when I was LOTRing it in the mountains. Giants and mammoths are no problem with a 4 foot wall.

Clearly someone never played Morrowind, Oblivion, or Bethesda's attempts to do Fallout. The animations are -way- better than any of those games. At least their faces show expression during main conversation now.

Clearly someone who has. I can see the vast improvements made in the game, but I suppose I must of expected too much.

Not practical too bother?! An animation for travelling up a mountain would of been extremely easy too do, given the amount of investment that has gone into this game.

Not to say I don't like the game, in fact I love it, but its not perfect.

I just joined the Stormcloaks because they want to crush the Empire....and they seem to have that 8 pointed star as their symbol......seems kinda familiar.

I've been trying to get someone to trade me Skyrim on Steam for a few days now, since I can't afford to spend the cash at the moment. No one seems to want to though sadly. Most of the stuff I have for trade is Warhammer games too.

Here's hoping I can get it soon. Hope everyone who has it already is enjoying it.
