TIME TO START A KILLING SPREE!
Plan on running around with Heavy Armor, Two Handed, Smithing, and Enchanting, any suggestions for anything after that?

I think its been decent, but annoying as well, Its not really "open ended"
For example, if you kill half the people it totally feths the game, and I went with the empire guy at the start and then about 15 mins in thought "feth it ill go with the rebels instead!" stuck one into his back, got him down to 1% health, and he refused to die.
Then he got back up 10 seconds later on 100%, was incandescent with rage, chased me for 13 miles over the foothills and then got his uncle to try and kill me as well!
So I started again.
Its been way more fun since I started doing what Im told, not stabbing all and sundry, and basically following all the quests like a good lad.
It's a really fun game, but its hardly "non linear"

My only bugbear so far is the save system.
What in the nine hells where Bethesda thinking, a game where multiple play throughs are extremely likely, and they keep the silly, count up the saves through all the characters like Oblivion had, but make it worse by having all the characters on the same list on a tiny screen.
Why they couldn't take a leaf out of Bioware's book and do it like Mass Effect, where you select a character then load a save.
Heck it could have been quite cool, a little screen with a snapshot of your character design, with their saves beside them.
This way you have to be perfectly aware all the time, one slip up when playing into the early morning while droopy eyed and hours of work, if not a whole character could be lost.
Not a devestating issue, but bloody annoying.

Sad but true.
However since I'm playing on the xbox (haters gonna hate) I'm just going to make seperate profiles for all my characters.

Besides, if you just scaled everything, you'd miss a lot interesting stops on the way. Scaling fort/tower walls and building with a grapple or something would've been an excellent addition though, and would've been great for players making a thief or assassin. I would've liked to see better siege mechanics for fort battles, as well as actually having to conquer cities instead of just all the forts around them. Siege towers, Onagers and Ballistas ho! Seriously though, I think that's one thing they could've done -way- better. I was so... underwhelmed by the battles and Legion camps. It's like they just pulled a Kinect and tossed it in as a last minute idea.

I joined the Stormcloaks because the Legion just sounds like a bunch of racist interloping bastards.
I'm a Drow, so I feel kind of awkward when they say "Only Nords in Skyrim!", but whatever.
I'm pretty sure playing as a melee character with weapons and armor is a lot more fun than being a Wizard. The spells look unbelievably amazing, but I just feel that being a Nord with heavy armor and a two-hander would feel more rewarding.

Basically the first bit of the game asks you to go with either the Stormcloak Nord that was riding in the wagon with you, or the one that was helping the Imps out.
And look at it this way- most of the things like climbing, seiges and such? Those will probably start showing up in the next couple Elder Scrolls titles. They've still got, lets see- Elsweyr, Black Marsh, Valenwood and Summerset Isle to go, as well as the possibility of going back to Morrowind (after the Ministry of Truth crashed, and Red Mountain erupted, that place really changed), High Rock or Hammerfell.
And the wierd thing is that the save/load screens were like that back in Morrowind, Morathi. God, that game got almost everything right. Wish they could do a re-release of it, taking the story, menues, all that, with the combat and physics engine of Skyrim. Morrowind's lack of regenerating Magicka and Health, though, and the ability to effectively teleport and travel in the 3rd dimension.

KingCracker wrote:Co-Op? That isnt necessary in this game. Jeez, next youll be wanting an ElderScrolls MMO This isn't Fable, this is Elder Scrolls, its better. Although I was disappointed to find out that when you join the legion you don't get any special policing powers, although I like the conquest of everything. In fact I may just have it so that I choose an Imperial citizen and have him marry a nord just so that I can say my character has conquered Skyrim and mean it literally and metaphorically. Yes, my character will be a complete dick and I will laugh whenever I think of how her parents would feel before realizing that they were killed by my hands. Muahaha, muahahahaha! I also have to give them credit for having a quest called "The Screams of Windhelm", which is a sneaky little reference that made me chuckle. No I am not that far into the game, I just worked from 7am to 3:30pm and from 7-9 we don't have too many customers, but we do have game guides. Actually wait, that may have been the guide's characterful name for the section of the quest, not sure. It involves Windhelm though. Automatically Appended Next Post: Morathi's Darkest Sin wrote:I'm not catching levels of things, but I have walked into things that took me out in a single hit, or I needed to change tactics on and use lots of health potions to beat.
Giants and Mammoths are definately above your comfort zone at the beginning, instant kill from either as a lvl 5.
On a side note..
Apparently Lycanthropy actually cures Vampirism, as far as it goes Lycanthropy is much more socially acceptable only because you can choose to transform once every 24 hours game time. However changing into a wolf in front of a guard counts as a major crime. Vampirism should be sucking your health down if you go out into the sunlight. Otherwise you should be getting some new spells and resist frost while getting a weakness to fire.

So, finally got it, and started playing. Against all my prior expectations, I decided to go with a wizened old man slinging magicka around like it was beads on Mardi-Gras. He's even Imperial. I never go Imperial! But when I watched a Let's Play, and saw those Imperial battlecasters slinging fireballs at Alduin, I was like dang.
My one concession is to have a big-ass hammer that I hit folks with when my magicka runs out.
Oh, and Conjuration is absolutely astounding in this game. You actually reanimate dead bodies instead of just summoning random corpses from thin air. As in, I just (re) killed that Draugr, and now Im'a gonna make it fight for me.
The Crafting system is really deep, too, requiring you to sacrifice enchanted items to learn how to make them. So very glad they brought back Enchanting as a skill.

I think you misunderstood me. I'm not asking for them to add another game mechanic, just too attach an animation script to the character, so when he is walking down an 80 degree slope, it doesn't look the same as walking in a straight flat line. Which would not take more than a week for 1 professional to do.
Although that scaling fort walls would be fantastic, but that's more of ubisofts forte.

The dragon fights are by far my favorite. I've killed around 5-6 of them (I'm around level 16, just finished the quest where I have to go up to High Hrothgar to see the Greybeards) and they really are random. I've had some that fly above me forever, breathing fire, and some that drop right in front of me and try to eat me.
My little trick that I use to take out dragons "quickly" is when I hear one, duck into a stand of trees... for some reason, they cant strafe me through the trees, so they drop in, and i can hit em with a shout, some magic and my axe.. etc. until it dies. So far, I think I have 5 or 6 "shouts" but I have killed 8 or 9 dragons.. its quite fun, but it does interrupt my questing some times :(
So far, I have come across and joined the Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood, Mage people, the Companions (who make you a werewolf)... My guess is that the Companions have taken the spot of the Fighters Guild from Morrowind and Oblivion.
Does anyone happen to know if you can be a werewolf AND a vampire at the same time?

I was infected, but didn't want my character to go that way and got it cured at an alter of a Goddess in Whiterun. Losing 35 health during daytime was too much of a burn, and I couldn't find any new spells or abilities, so maybe I wasn't full yet. Eitherway its gone. Plan on playing a Vamp with a another character set up to be that way from the off, at least I know where to go now to get infected.

I went mad with my perks, but not TOO mad. They're mainly focussed in Smithing (damn the complete lack of any materials for intermediate-level equipment), One-Handed, Ranged, Light Armour, and Stealth, which equates to about points in each given my level.
Also, Hagravens are a bloody pain in the arse, especially the ones in the . I only just managed to kill them with an elven bow and ancient Nord arrows + various poisons, in conjunction with beating on them with an axe when they came too close and desperately healing myself between Fire Breath dragon shouts.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.
