Looking good graven. Like the mottling on the cloak and a nice blend on the hood. Keep up the great work!

Yeah, that mottling on the back of the cloak is a nice effect for a Nurgle.

looking good! I feel the blood on the blade could use a wee bit more depth, but not sure if it's just the pics. As has been said, the mottled effect is very nicely done.

Thanks fellas! Well, hopefully it's clearer in the next pics. I also did more weathering, and used some vj foul green:

And a bit more colour on the pit

Getting there.

Order done, 2 more cans of necrotic flesh primer, milliput, green stuff, Nurgle' s Rot, plus Tallyman and Rotbone. Mostly a supply run

So OCD it's CDO, so it's in alphabetical order
So... Lots of cloak work

Happy with mottling. Lots of vj model air ochre and mahogany.

And bases? Well I felt on balance they're too plain, so all them were hit with that technical earth crud.

Only sign of any crackle on ANY of them. Unimpressed. However, I have a plan: I intend to use the same method for making magic/ecto slime (pva + superglue) as a gunky layer. Possibly just over the top, not even painted.

Not much else done, poorly baby, but she's on the mend now, back at nursery etc. New stuff arriving tomorrow, which is very exciting. I'm going to have to up my pace slightly though, I want to finish the first baych of DG by the end of the month (the Blight Drone would be an added bonus, but I'm not fussed). That'll take my painted total to 18 for April, which considering it includes building and painting the Asylum isn't bad My to-do list is still pretty scary but it's been good to have a bat-break. Speaking of which, might do a Bane

Cheers for all the support on the DG chaps, it's good to get back in the grimdark groove with them,

Because we’re here,lad...

There’s too much to catch up on Graven, so I just read the last couple of pages. Great stuff as always! The DG Sorceror is fantastic! Is that the SoB/Abbadon figure I sent you for the GMS? If so, a far better use and great to see an old model given a new lease of life!

On a more serious note: never used the technical paints, but it's an effect easily replicated/improved, plenty of tuts for that on youtube. I lovr your cloaks, it really suits the models.

It is! I felt initially very guilty about recycling your hard work but then I thought, hey, you'd want it to see some use! And it seems to have helped summon back from (to?) the depths. If you get the chance, take a look back at some of the recent Batman stuff (although there... quite a bit ). It's funny to think I'm finally coming full circle with dakka after 9 years, and it's good to see some of the old-school folks back in the habit too

My go-to was Tim Holtz crackle paint, never let me down as far as I can recall.

Do like the tone of the group as a whole, and the incoming fly-drone

My son wanted to try the crackle paint as he is incredibly lazy and wanted a quick finish to basing.

We initially had the same problems as you, it wouldn't "crackle". However I'm guessing you aren't applying it think enough, it needs to be practically shovelled on to an average depth of say 1 to 2mm. It will then crackle nicely, but will show black in the cracks from the base unless you paint the bases first (we use a dark chestnut brown)
Once dry the crackled paint will occasionally shell off so an airbrush coat of varnish is useful to glue it down.

All in all it's not a quick fix for my lazy son !

Hope that helps !

I see what you did there.

For those crackle paints, I think (have not used them) they have to be applied quite thickly to get the effect.

For the PVA/superglue, you need to wait until the PVA has formed quite a thick skin before applying the sg. This I have done.

Yeah I'm used to PVA/Superglue, but it just didn't look right to me.

Thanks old son. You were absolutely an inspiration for all this, especially your pox walkers.

I think my Chaos Lord, Coryphaeus, is done.

I wonder if the spinny axe blades need to get a contrasting wash.
Famous last words eh?

And some base detail

I think I'm going to keep the rest of the bases fairly simple too. So this might be it.
Speaking of the rest...

Aye. No bad.

The drone has much more empty space so might go a bit more stuff and nonsense on the base.

Maildrop came. Raven for BMG (finally!), No Tallyman (on back order), but Rotbone for DG did. I like the idea of acoustics and ultrasound being important to these guys. For you know, rupturing things. Lots of bits and pieces to get on with in the meantime. I'm going to finish off the squad and then jump to a bit of something else. Good to mix it up. It's definitely not hobby ADHD. Honest.

It's also commission stuff time again. One of my BMG buddies has asked me to do his Freeze goons for him in the style of Batman & Robin (yes, that travesty); he's picked up a Frank Miller joker on the cheap so good trade for services rendered and some scenery, just for fun.

Whilst Knight Models seem to have faded into the background a bit, at least in terms of review stuff (honestly, having to buy my own toys, tsk), I've struck up the beginnings of a working relationship with Ronnie Renton, boss of Mantic: he likes my stuff, it seems, so going to be getting some exclusive news (seriously, watch my twitter @graven_sam) and letting Mark Latham give me a couple more exclusives for my interview with him in Initiative Magazine. Oh, and a free copy of the Hellboy game to review when it comes out.

It's a hard life

Good job on the death guard guys. Poor burgling looks like he’s about to become a skidmark and not the type on the street .

Sad to hear about knight models slowing down, but picking up Mantic stuff could be really neat. I’ve not been a huge fan of their ultra crisp clean paint schemes.

Jealous of the free Hellboy game. Will you get resins to paint up before general release? (General Release sounds like a great name for a Death Guard commander, even if it’s for attached chaos renegade guardsmen.)
