I have assembled a test sanguinary guard that I will spray and start painting gold tonight, (tho finishing my blood ravens tactical squads for a tournament in August is still my #1 priority).

I am going to paint them true metallic gold on a black undercoat, I am thinking.
I will probably used my standard style of metallic NMM (that is, NMM highlights paints in true metallic paints).
This army is very small (30 models at 2000 points) so I intend to make them stand out.

But as I said, getting the Ravens troops choices finished is my plan before I allow myself to assemble any more Blood Angels.

(I have currently assembled Dantem the 5 Vanguard Veterans, 3 priests and 2 Sanguinary Guard to test my colour scheme on.

Do people think I should add in some helmetless Sanguinary Guard in the mix?

Finally, how should I make the leader of the sanguinary guard stand out? (there are 29 Guard plus Serapham, Herald of Sanguinius in the codex listed). At the moment, I am considering no helmet and two of the angel feather shoulder pads instead of just one...maybe paint him NMM Silver to make him stand out? Or change the colour of his wings? Any ideas?

Finally, I bought a high grade digital video camera yesterday ($400 dollar camera) and will start making some How to Paint tutorials, I intend to do one for every space marine chapter eventually. I will do a test run with how to paint the resin bases I use from Back to Basix this week.

Any help on the above questions would be great!

By the way dude, I'm not sure if this is inappropriate or anything but if you have any spare parts knocking around and you want to get some yen for them let me know. I don't really have anything out here and I could paypal you the money or something.
I wouldn't be too bothered about what it was as I like most of the plastic SM range and I don't game so it would just be for the fun of modelling/painting.

But in the end I went for a metallic gold on the guard, and I am testing different forumas atm.

I think I will try for more definition on the next guard with a stronger brown shade to define the recess more, but other than that, the gold there is mostly just drybrushing.

Ill do one squad in NMM, but I figured painting 30 models exactly the same would get repetative if I tried anything too overly complex.

I think all the gold needs is a stronger brown basecoat to define the gold a little more.

But the gold still needs to be hard highlighted, which is something I will do tonight.

These are really cool! I really like how you painted the wings.

Amazing work as always, the NMM is outstanding on those Sang Guard. I must applaud the Dante conversion also, it's very simple but such an amazing ending result. Keep up the good work Roleplayer.

It's always awe-inspiring to see what miracles you can work with a paintbrush. Once again you've done justice to a beautiful model that few can hope to match.

Yeah I'll def look into doing the reflection better next time, I was just sort of feeling way way through it on my first attempt, lots of experimentation.

Today's work.

Laid down the white with highlights for my sanguinary priests body. Need to shade it and try one more highlight to really make the white highlights white.

Wow, 100,000 hits, I can hardly believe I have managed to reach such a number, and nearly 1000 replies, too.

I really want to thank the dakka dakka community for getting behind my blog.

You people are the motivation that keeps me pushing the envelope on every model, and without you i'd have no motivation to paint as much as I do.
But of course, my wallet might be better off.

I'd like to take this milestone to let you all know, Roleplayer will be at Adepticon 2011, with either his Blood ravens or Blood Angels.

So keep an eye out for me in States next year!
