Gotrek and Felix: unsung heroes of the Empire, or nothing more than common thieves and murderers? The truth perhaps lies somewhere in between, and depends entirely upon whom you ask... Gotrek and Felix race to the dwarf hold at Karak Kadrin, finding it besieged by one of the grand armies of Chaos warlord Garmr. When King Ungrim Ironfist speaks of the legendary ‘Road of Skulls’ and of the hated foe’s attempts to open a portal into the Realm of Chaos, Gotrek senses that a great doom awaits him – though it may not be the one he would choose for himself. As the king’s own son leads his army of Slayers to fulfil an ancient prophecy, it seems that Garmr’s hour of victory may be at hand.

Sounds promising., sad to see Mr. Long gone, but Mr. Reynolds work in the old world has been enjoyable enough thus far.

I don't think I've read any of Josh Reynolds novels, but Nathan Long's have been rather hit or miss really.

Slayer of the Storm God and Orc Slayer just read and sounded like a bad Lovecraft/Warhammer crossover.

Man, I need to figure out how I can do covers for these novels.

Almost finished with Outcast Dead, started a little slow, but pretty interesting near the end.

I thought that the Garro ones were going to be available at UK Games Day? I assume that's a pre release as they do. I listened to Grey Angel last night and it's one of the 'awe' moments in the Horus Heresy that I had never thought about but is quite pivotal to the wider story. I should say it's a short one at about 35 mins but I think it's just the right length, any longer would have dragged it out unnecessarily. It's another Heavy Entertainment production so it can get a bit quiet. I'm looking forward to the other Garro story and the return of Toby Longworth.

Aw, and there was me hoping for it to be called "Roadofskullsslayer". I may give this one a go: I haven't been all that enamoured with Nathan Long's G&F stories. I think my dislike started with the whole "Suddenly, it's twenty years later, but two decades of constant exertion and warfare appear to had no impact on our characters", followed by "Hey Gotrek, remember how we did that whole extra twenty years of war and struggle thing? Let's never mention any details or reminisce, but instead only refer back to our first couple of years travelling together. Yay!". It seemed to me to smack of lazy writing. I hope that Josh Reynolds will do a better job with the series.

"I reached down through my trousers, and groped for something concealed in my sock... it was my foot."

I lurk, therefore I am. DOOM DOLPHINS!

Re. the earlier post on this page about Gotrek and Felix, the real shame is that Bill King hasn't picked back up the series again. Not surprised though. I believe he wanted to end the series, as it really should be ended. Of course, GW wont end that cash cow. As for Mr. Long, he really was hit or miss with the series. i think Sandy Mitchell, if interested, could have probably done good things with the G&F series. I am holding hope out, however, that Bill King will come around and do "Kin Slayer," the once discussed origin of Gotrek becoming a Slayer. I'll certainly give Mr. Reynolds a chance. Cheers.

Here's just a taste of some of the pre-release novels that will be there:

Pariah - Dan Abnett's long awaited follow up to the Eisenhorn and Ravenor series which sees the two Inquisitors pitted against each other. Who will prevail?

The Emperor's Might - the second in John Blanche's series of art books that explore the servant's of the God Emperor, this time focussing on the military arm of the Imperium of Man.

Tome of Fire - a collection of short stories and novellas from Nick Kyme, tied into his hugely successful Salamanders trilogy.

Sword of Caledor - William King's Tyrion and Teclis trilogy continues in this new volume, as the twins venture into the deadly jungles of Lustria in search of the fabled Sunfang.

The Great Betrayal - Nick Kyme brings us the first part of the story of the great war between the Elves and the Dwarfs as the Time of Legends series continues.

Garro: Sword of Truth - In this two-disc audio drama from James Swallow, Nathaniel Garro returns from the battlefields of Calth to find a new mission waiting for him.

More TBA IMO.

http://www.blacklibrary.com/Blog/you-asked-i-answered.html

When the overlords of Black Library once again demanded a blog entry, I decided to take the pulse of the people to see what they wanted to hear about. This was in no way instead of actually thinking of what to write about myself. Absolutely not. No way. Me?

Anyway, turns out there's a lot of things people want to hear about, so in no particular order (or coherence...) here's a few answers and reflections on the saner subjects you brought up.

My next project in the Warhammer World will likely involve Sigmar, because – as it turns out – God King was never going to be the end of that story. The more I wrote of the third book, the more we knew there was a vast backcloth of setting and story to explore and thus the idea of an Age of Sigmar came about... where I can tell tales set in the Empire Sigmar created, but which don't necessarily have to have the big yin as lead character. He'll be a through-line, the axis around which the arc of the stories revolve, but there are other great characters inhabiting that world I want to see take centre stage. Oh, and I have an urge to visit the dark elves to complete my journeys around the elven habitats with a trip to Naggaroth.

Heresy teasers...? Well, there's... oh, wait, no. Can't tell you about that... or that. Hmmm, well, Fear to Tread is hitting the shelves any day now, and Angel Exterminatus won't be far behind (and, yeah, it'll be another A Thousand Sons-sized behemoth). Then there's my audio drama, ‘Wolf Hunt’ – featuring two of the survivors from The Outcast Dead – and another story called ‘The Thief of Revelations’. Will we see more of Magnus? Almost certainly. Rogal Dorn? Would I like to see more of him? Yes, please. But that's your Heresy ration for now. Plenty to be getting excited about already without going too far into the distance.

Some folk were asking about the Emperor's Children and The Cult Mechanicus; well, you need look no further than Angel Exterminatus or Priests of Mars to scratch those itches. And to those of you who've read Priests of Mars... remember that it's just the first part of a duology. I start the concluding book later this year, so rest assured the expedition of Archmagos Kotov will reach its end there. There's some great stuff to come in that book, that I'm champing at the bit to get to. Just got to delve into the deepest, darkest caves of a dying world for a Horus Heresy novella first.

And onto Warhammer 40,000 now. Aside from Priests of Mars, I plan to return to the boys of Ultramar soon, with a fiendish tale of battle for survival in the pipeline for next year's schedule. It's all go here, I tell you. Okay, what else...? Raven Guard, yeah, I'd love to do some stuff with them, as I always have a real blast when I write them. Who doesn't love space ninjas? As to whether that'd be in Warhammer 40,000 or in the Horus Heresy... well, I have a corking idea for where to use them in the Heresy, but I think it would be equally cool to do something with the sons of Corax in the 41st millennium. Whether my crammed schedule will allow that is another matter. Hopefully.

Right, that's probably enough to getting on with, eh?

See you soon for more Tales from the Tea Shoppe.

just got Priests of Mars on the ipad...
$11.99 digital versus $24.99 print, yes please...

reading The Emperor's Gift first...
i must say, i can't wait for them to get to Armaggedon, where the Wolves get in the action...
as much as i love AD-B's writing, i just can't get behind the straight-laced ultimate good guys...

got Wrath of Iron in print...
yeah, dead trees...
dipped into the first couple chapters...
seems like it will be a fun one, with the Iron Hands unique logic-centric approach to everything...
their attitude toward the Guard is awesome, seeing them more as tools then people, which is the exact opposite of my beloved Sallies...

not dipped into Nocturne or the Primarchs yet...
they do look good on my desk though, with their shiny covers...
as convenient as it is to get everything i want digitally, including OOP novels (even though i own all of them, it's nice for newer collectors), nothing can replace the power of a great cover staring at you from the nightstand...

cheers

@Alpharius: fair point, and i know where you're coming from...
my problem is that, within themsleves, the Grey Knights are the ultimate good guys, and they think like self-righteous fanatics...

i prefer the wildness of the Wolves, and their love of life...

for those who already have the Sundering series, they release the omnibus shorts digitally...
i love it, 'cause there is no way i can wait long enough for a series to get omnibused, and always buy the individual books...
i was bummed when omnibus editions included exclusive short stories, but now i can get them individually...
