Black library release another short story? No fething way, I don't believe it!
Anyone else wonder if their aim was to release a comic book without having to pay someone to draw?

I suspect their next limited edition shorty-short story will take the literary world by storm.

I was wondering if any of you guys have read through the Skitarii books? Are they any good or even worth picking up?

Titanic us by Abnett's has a lot of skittari action in it and is very good. The focus is obviously on the Titans, but the Mechanicus is well represented.

Soo...

Curse of the Phoenix King was totally worth the wait. Read it this weekend and loved every bit. From the start of the Slayer Cult, the birth of the Wood Elves, the insidiousness of the Dark Elves, the Daemon (the Changeling?) who was egging both sides on, the depths that the High Elves delve into to turn the tide, how the war changed the entire dwarf race and its absolutely stunning, but morose conclusion this is Warhammer fiction at its best. Loved every page.

CL Werner is hands down my favorite Black Library writer.

Have they announced any Warhammer Fantasy releases to come out after they wrap up The End Times?

No.

The above mentioned "Curse.. crown" -- which is indeed most enjoyable -- has been the only fantasy release for quite some time, and nothing more has been officially announced.

Got/read "Meduson" from Warhammer World.

A solid and enjoyable collection of stories -- can't say when but hear that they will --eventually -- be available for people elsewhere in the world.

I hate all these micro "short reads". They're never long enough to get any sort of flow to them or have time to build up steam. I've bought several and never found myself thinking "Oh man! I'm glad I got this! It added so much to the HH!"

Yerp. The short story collections were fine when it was a case of "we've just released five full-length novels in a row and there's a gap in the schedule, here have this to tide you over for a couple of months until the next novel is ready", but these days it seems like all they bloody sell. And they still pull all this nonsense about limited editions, staggered release schedules to try and force folk to buy the limited editions to avoid having the story spoiled by those who have, event-, timed-, and now location-exclusive content etc etc. It's beyond a joke now.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

Yeah, when was the last plot-progressing novel actually released? Tallarn: Ironclad sort of did, but only a bit, and I guess the Ultramarine novels about Calth and the Shadow Crusade did a few months back, and maybe this new Salamanders novel will too, but actual main plot novels are pretty thin on the ground at the moment. Would be nice if they moved into the final stages at last and got down to closing the noose around Terra. It isn't like they won't be able to spin that out for a good few books anyway, as it is a damn huge, multi-stage battle, and in this case, one book wouldn't do it justice. Although I hope it doesn't devolve too much into "What the Emperor had for dinner on day 35 of the Siege of Terra" when it finaly gets there...

Are there any other major battles/plot threads that haven't been covered or need to be concluded prior to Terra that anyone can think of?

I must admit, that I am both in awe and disappointed in how the BL is representing the Emperor. Some of the things I really like. Some are really confusing. It's like they want to make him a god, but have no idea what that means.

I have the same issues with how they write about faith. In such a theocratic setting, faith would be a huge motivating factor of most people. But, it seems to me that few of the BL authors even understand the basics of faith, let alone how to write about individuals that should have UNBREAKABLE faith. I know that they need to write a good story. It's just that they write themselves into bad situations, and then blunder as they try to get around something that should be intrinsic in a character's nature.

Anyway, my $.02...

Are the end times not an ongoing setting? I didn't know they were going to have an actual end. I was thinking they were trying to put the warhammer world in the same 10 minutes to midnight as 40k and then leave it there, so the novels would go on and on and on. I'm loving them so far, great stuff.

The 30K universe is completely secular at the decree of the Emperor himself, not in any way theocratic. The Emperor as a deity is a new concept and a largely underground movement (the comparisons with early Christianity in the Roman Empire are as obvious as they are clumsy - in fact, I'll call it now, one of the less refined Primarchs will at some point order the execution of someone for following the Imperial Creed)

It may be that your disappointment is as much down to your expectations being misplaced as it is down to the content themselves. To portray any of the Legionary loyalists as possessing any sort of religious faith at this point in history would actually be a departure from what has been established.

Personally, I find there being somewhat of a disconnect between the living breathing Emperor of 30K and the deified version of 40K to be logical, even expected.

We find comfort among those who agree with us - growth among those who don't. - Frank Howard Clark

The wise man doubts often, and changes his mind; the fool is obstinate, and doubts not; he knows all things but his own ignorance.

The correct statement of individual rights is that everyone has the right to an opinion, but crucially, that opinion can be roundly ignored and even made fun of, particularly if it is demonstrably nonsense!” Professor Brian Cox

It seems like the four titles they have announced and mostly published echo the four WFB End Times hardcovers, and those definitely have an ending. I won't spoil it if you haven't heard, but it is as finite as it gets.

Next mechanics read out for pre order on limited release.... I'm about 3/4 of the way through the 1st one. It's ok a bit dry, interesting but dry. I don't envy rob sanders job trying to make the mech fun to read about. It would be a bit like writing a novel about a computer programmers day at work, without all the violence, space ships and quasi religious mubo jumbo.... On the plus side I like the dust jackets on the limited release you can pay a tenner for....great.

There have, of course, been a veritable plethora of -- mainly e format -- stories released to tie in with the recent Ad mech. stuff.

As well as a few collections of various themed stories -- Terminators, legion of the damned and so forth.

Apologies for the lack of links but that's the way they've set up their website, currently.

So now Neal Roberts is a co-author? Interesting.

It appears BL is scrambling to shore up Dan Abnett's projects. Have we heard any solid reasons or explanation for why Abnett is no longer producing GW stuff? Gaunt's Ghosts is languishing, as is the Eisenhor/Raven,or trilogy. What's going on? I know he had some health problems a few years ago. And that he's taken on a lot of non-GW projects. Has he broken with Black Library? (I confess, I've stopped trying to keep track of Black Library plans, so I may have missed some news on this.)
