The last marine seems to me to be the smoothest of the bunch. Good work on getting the highlights on the black so subtle, I have to try the washes in painting black as your last attempt is so good looking.

I think the multimelta on the last page is still my favourite. The flamer above it however is in a really nice pose... You don't see many of those poses around but that looks incredibly unique. The melta just looks so incredibly dominating and stalwart. I like it much

I like your BTs alot, I just finished base painting my 2000 pt army, just need to break them out for pics. I used the same method, I primed them white and 4 coats of badad black, I think they look sweet. I will get some pics up soon to show them off.

I paint the bases beastial brown then paint on some pva glue and drop a combination of fine sand and crushed cat litter onto them and let it dry, then paint over all with more bestial brown and highlight with bleached bone.

No vehicles yet, I'm planning to do a mostly infantry army, but at some point I will probably do at least some bikes and rhinos.
As I've got about a hundred more infantry to paint, it'll be quite some time before I start on anything else.

I'm using metal chaplain legs, metal emperor's champ left arm and the rest is SM BT plastics:

forgive me if you already answered this, but what red is that on his inhaler? That's very unique and I'm seeing visions of bug flesh for my new unit of spinegaunts if I can mimic what you have here.

It's just a scab red base with blood red highlights, given a red wash and blazing orange final highlights.

hey, quick question, got any tips on painting black you could and are willing to share with me? i am painting up a DC squad and i seel to be failing quite badly. i know DC and BT are diffrent, but i suppose painting black is painting black. just thought i would ask as i like your style and the look of your BT army so far,

oh yeah, keep up the good work, just remember to keep up some sort of momentum as if you stop or slow down too much then its hard to pick back up at times.

I started out with white primer then painted all the armor except the shoulderpads a very dark grey instead of the usual chaos black, then progressively lightened the grey shades into smaller and smaller areas near the edges of the armor pieces.
I then used a combination of gryphonne sepia and devlin mud wash in many, many layers going from only one layer in the outer areas to many layers in the recesses and used straight black wash on the very recessed areas and did a final highlight with thinned codex grey and thinned fortress grey.

I did this to see if I could build a depth of shading without putting a lot of paint on the model and keep the surface nice and smooth.

I do know about that... I've tried painting black armour. Along with doing swooping hawks and things like that. Difficult for sure and patience is a must.

Actually black can be a little easier than you think, especially for layer painters like myself. I have found that if you add a very small amount of bleached bone in with the black and add a little more bleached bone per highlight it is a very smooth transition. I have some work but I have no way of posting pics at all hehe.

He is a combination of parts, metal legs from a chaplain, metal left arm from the emperor's champion and the rest are plastic: right arm, torso, head.

If I ever get the 4 tactical squads finished I will have an HQ squad and terminator squad to work on, as I'm not terribly impressed with the sword bretheren game-wise, I'll probably just do a squad of assault marines.

I definitely agree with this statement... So is this eventually going to be a tournament army? Casual gaming army? I sure was hoping it wouldn't just be a display piece. It's too nice and has too much story behind it to just be that.

Thanks! If I have as much time in the future for gaming as I do now for painting then it will most likely be just a display army. (if I ever get it finished)

But who knows?
