The emperor of mankind holds the forces of the chaos gods at bay simply with his will. He is the strongest single being in the universe, the most powerful psyker, the strongest fighter, and is essentially a god having lived thousands and thousands of years. For Horus to beat him in single combat (right after beating sanguinius), even with the help of the 4 gods of chaos (which the emperor again can keep out of this realm with his will alone) was an incredible feat, especially after defeating sanguinius.

Horus had the most time with the emperor, learned the most from him about all things, fighting, tactics, etc and thus would be the obvious choice for the 2nd in command being the best at all things second only to the emperor. With the help of chaos he was able to mortally wound the emperor, but I still think that points to him being stronger than all of the rest of the primarchs. There is a reason Erebus chose him to be the leader of the heresy and the reason the chaos gods chose him to fight the primarchs/emperor. You don't choose a champion that can't fight to assassinate your greatest enemy.

I'm not really sure how I could vote for anyone but Horus; I mean he destroyed Sanguinis and the only person who could take him down was the Emperor himself (after being nearly killed by Horus btw). Not to belittle the other primarchs but I don't see there being much contest.

Its pretty damn disturbing, it describes Noise marines who have torn off there eye lashes so there eyes are never closed. Noise marines who have cut there ears off and cut slits were they used to be. A noise marines cuts off an Iron Hands marines head and then kisses him before laughing and chucking it away. A noise marines gets half his face burnt off, and lays there in orgasmic pleasure then stabs a sword through an Iron hands crotch and says "Thank you, that was equsite.

It seems that though err kinda plain Primarchs like Ferrus or Girlyman, Dorn etc aint very tough?

compared to most other being in the universe, all of the primarchs are crazy tough.
compared to each other, a few stand above the rest.

Dorn kicks ass. He just doesn't kick enough ass to be the toughest primarch. Same with Ferrus, Guilliman, etc.

I thought Ferrus was pretty darn cool. He nearly beat up Fulgrim.

I'm chucking my vote in for Old Angron. If it is genuinely one on one with no pre-amble, then Angron. I mean c'mon, the dood survived a literal fortress falling on him. Plus I think the other Primarchs would feel some kind of remorse or a slight hesitation at attacking their brothers (this is pre-heresy, so none of your "Oh but Horus killed Sanguinius") whereas Angron seems to lack those feelings.

RUSS, Plain old Russ. He would rip them all apart, then go off eat his own body weight in Meat and drink a Barrel or two. Then he would relieve himself all over his brothers corpses marking out his scent and showing his contempt.

Even Horus was wary of Russ hence he sent him off to smash up Prospero.

Lion. He grew up in a wilderness with really dangerous beasts, leads a crusade against the beasties, helps the Emperor, knocks the gak out of Russ due to a misunderstanding stemming from Lion interfering in Russ' plan on killing a governor who offended him, and then deals with his own mini heresy with Luther.
I'd definitely say he is one of the toughest, as well as under appreciated Primarchs.

My vote goes for Corax. He wouldn't even need to fight. He'd just sneak up and Vulcan Death Pinch some motha-fethas.
