I just got into Tomb Raider over the Next Gen games and while the ending was a bit dissapointing I still enjoyed the overall game. I have underworld on the shelf, but I haven't played it yet.
@hjelmen: I like your Avatar.
Bionic Commando: while it certainly hat it's share of flaws I really liked it. But the final boss fight and the following cutscene is a bad joke. It's a shame the team behind it got sacked. I don't think we'll see a sequel any time soon.

I would imagine it has to do with the fact that Price turned his back on Shepherd and launched a nuke at DC that (unknown to Shepherd until the blast) was set to go off in the atmosphere and cause EMP.
Remember, Shepherd lost his 30,000 strong Battle group in an atomic blast in CoD4, so that was probably a huge "You son of a . I'm going to your corpse and then take a on your cold, dead face" moment to him.
But that still doesn't make sense. Price turned his back on Shepard, he acted alone. There really wan no reason for him to destroy the whole task force like that. (Unless it's protocol to do so or something )
That, and the fact that he wanted to be the one seen as the hero that saved America. Not some shadow organization.
Makes a bit more sense, but still, it's not like the shadow organiztion was going to step into the limelight and take all the credit. Besides, near the end he uses Shadow Ops anyway, so why make the switch?
And also, Ghosty died. Damn.

Yea. Moar Ghost please
But anyway, as far as Shepherd - it actually made perfect sense. Even though Price and the others had no intent of taking the glory, Shepherd likely believed they would try. Besides, Shepherd didn't want the war to end quickly. He wanted to prolong it and nurture it for his own personal reasons. It's believed Makarov knew about Allen because of Shepherd telling him (likely as an anonymous source) about his double identity. So with TF141 trying to take the backbone out of the Russians, thus ending the war, Shepherd saw them as a risk to his plans.
As far as Shepherd's Ops go, that's just it - they're Shepherd's Ops. What they do, they do for his agenda. TF141's aims don't line up with those of Shepherd and his Black Ops, so TF141 was dealt with in what was meant to be a thorough operation (though it obviously failed to some drastic extent with both Soap and Price surviving). Basically he made the switch because he knew TF141 would not see things his way. Makes perfect sense, it was just delivered poorly.

I hated how abrupt the ending was too. Right in the middle of a cutscene it just snaps to the credits.
What the feth.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

i do have to wonder, where are they going with MW3??
i truly doubt that Price and Soap will be "heroes" and will most likely have TF141 viewed as the western version of Al Qaeda, even though we know who the main badguy that they are after is.
i really could care less, so long as the story is brilliant, and just as disturbing as MW2

Half-Life 2 made me scream, although at least the G-Man admitted that the ending was arbitrary.
And thankfully Half-Life 2: Episode 2 solved that one.
God of War II had an awesome end, even with the cliche "The end of the beginning of the beginning of the end" stuff. Just the fact that you're riding on Gia's back as she ascends Mount Olympus with her other Titan brethren to take on the Gods themselves. HOLY-FETHING-HELL!!!!!
And in sort of a reversal, I was annoyed at the conclusion Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 brought to MUA1... in the fact that it didn't bring one. It had nothing to do with it.
Metal Gear Solid 2 had that problem as well. The ending just left with a 'WTF?' feeling. You do get that from the first and third games as well, and the 4th game wraps it all up nicely, but 2 sits high above the 1st and 3rd as a game that still makes little sense.

Bah. The player gets shot how many times over the course of the game? Ghost will be fine. He just needs to put out that fire and then get behind some cover until his HUD stops glowing red

Actually, I loved that about MW2. It's more realistic than most FPS. On hardcore in the mulitplayer a single straight shot is the death of you. You get shot in the leg and the screen looks like you've been hit by a truck.
And there's no radar. Always keeps you guessing.

Trying Hardcore when I don't feel like I'd ragequit But yea I love games where you have a limit instead of an HP count. But Ghost only got shot once. And going by lower difficulty... He should be alive!

To be fair, at least MGS1 and 3 actually made sense throughout most of the game. MGS2 didn't explain jack until the last half-hour or so of gameplay, and even then it did a pretty piss-poor job at it. Plus, 1 and 3 were the only ones (Though I haven't actually played 4 yet, or finished Portable Ops) that had a great ending that was almost a little depressing. Especially the "bad" ending from MGS1 (Where And the final cutscene of 3 was a complete tear-jerker when
Just saying, MGS1 and 3 had nowhere near the WTF factor that 2 had, especially near the end.

well, in 4 the story is particularly awesome, its well put together, and at the end of the game, you want to play through again, just to make sure that you got all of the plot twists in there. If you do end up playing 4, make sure you watch all of the cutscenes all the way through, especially the final one, where Snake is in the graveyard. (i dont spoiler alert the final cutscene since my memory is terrible, and i wouldnt do it justice because i would undoubtedly miss some important details)
