You know the ones, games that are great to play but end rather poorly.

My two primary examples:

Knights of the Old Republic 2: piss-poor ending, mostly due to Lucasarts rushing it out the door without putting everything in.

Borderlands: People who finished it know what I'm talking about.

Diablo. After all the adventure and excitement, the final fight is just a bunch of super-fast mouse-clicking. The final battle in Diablo 2 was much better.

Ugh, you kill the last boss and then get a scene where it shows your characters take a portal to escape and in up surrounded by enemies, makes an aside about something more going on and than goes to credits.

No kidding. That was ridiculously lame. It doesn't get a better ending on Playthrough 2.

Crysis. Talk about your Deus Ex Machinas...

Also, Star Wars: Republic Commando. If you're going to put in a cliff-hanger make sure there's going to be a bloody sequel!

Armies:
(CSM/HH) - Iron Warriors; Death Guard; World Eaters; Night Lords
IG - Vestfalian Expeditionary
Force (Solar Auxilia - HH)
SM - Blades of Inaros (Homebrew)

They planned a sequel, but something got in the way as I recall.

I'd rather they just reboot the Republic Commando franchise and start over with Omega Squad rather than Delta.

Psh, you people, citing games that have come out in the past 10 years. Try playing through every level of Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle only to have him run to the middle of the screen with the same level-ending animation you've seen 1 million times (that game was really hard at some points as you only had offensive actions when you could find a one-shot item) and do the same stupid little dance you've grown accustomed, but this time with the screen reading "Congraturations! You are good player" No, that wasn't a typo :p

Fallout 3 (Pre-Patch) Not the climax, per-se, but a Bethesda game just, well, ending.

Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction - Ugh!

Arkham Asylum - Although the great game makes the relatively lame final fight pretty forgivable.

Yep, which is sad considering how great the game can be much of the time.

Yeah, if you could get to the end without getting frustrated with it crashing every 30 minutes or so because of the same reason(and I'm talking about the X-box version).

I saw alot of that at the time, still see a lot of it now (obviously) but I never really got it.

Its a clif hanger ending, what's wrong with it? When Empire Strikes Back ends, folks aren't screaming omg there was no definable ending to my experience, its ruined. (Although you effectivily ended with the boss fight v's Tartarus anyways, so that wasn't entirely true.)

Okay I'll be fair they hadn't initally planed on the cliffhanger ending, time was again was a factor they could not overcome, but when I experienced it my thoughts where bloody awesome and I can't wait for Halo 3.
I also do wonder how much of their later admissions of 'we didn't plan to end 2 that way really, and we will make 3 better to make up for it' where just PR to answer the many angered voices they may not have been expecting.

As to my own game for the pile, Hmm I'd probabbly agree with Diablo, wait, he saves the world, and then stabs himself in the head with the evil crystal to 'protect' it, huh.

Heh, personally I wasn't that bothered with Halo 2's ending either. I just thought it needed mentioning for all the rage it caused at the time.

Halo Wars. The ending cutscene was great, but the final and second-last missions were just too quiet and boring. First you just haul the FTL core up a hill, then you can literally finish the final mission with just your Spartans.

That's because we were all saying, "Oh my God, Darth Vader is his father! Holy gak! I can't imagine!" And other mind blown exclamations. The lesson is, if you can't drop a bomb like that, don't leave us hanging off a cliff.

Now imagine being the actors and not knowing that until you saw the finals.

An Aliens 2 game for one of the Nintendo systems. You fight thew hoards of aliens, and at the end, the Queen is killed in a crappy cinematic rather than a cool battle with the player.

Oh no, do try to justify it. You can't just hate a game's ending for no reason.

Medal of Honor: Rising Sun

The game basically ends halfway through the storyline, a more blatant "You'll have to buy the sequel now!!" ploy I've never seen before.

Of course, a lot of people thought the same and the gameplay wasn't extraordinarily great either (though I thought Banzai charges were a nice touch), word of mouth ensured sales that weren't great so ---> a sequel was never made. GAH!
