Any chance of getting some sets of those boneswords?

Still pondering that and how I want to go about selling it. Kicking around just putting it up in the Swap Shop topic at a set price, where regardless of what it sells for I'll wonder if I should get more, vs putting it on Ebay, where I have to start worrying about the fees and horror stories I hear about that place. Have I mentioned anxiety issues yet?

Body and Head's all done. All I've really got left to do is make some Bonesword blades and brains, and see if I can make a Lashwhip I'm happy with. I may also attempt to make a unit left handed Deathspitter. However, tomorrow is FLGS day, so unless it's a real slow one and I head out early from the shop, I probably won't get much done with this as any time before I head to the shop will likely be spent trying to finish off a small Guard project so I can give it to the guy. Which means this should be done Wednesday so I've got until then to decide on a price and how to give it out.

These are awesome and are giving me ideas.

What width plasticard did you use for the Boneswords and widening the Alphas?

First Alpha has two pieces of 1mm thick plasticard. Second one's bisection didn't go very smooth, so he had some extra shaving done in the middle and a third piece of plasticard put in to even it back out, but they're both the same widths.

The majority of the Boneswords are using 2.0x6.3mm plasticard strips. I ran out of that before I was done with the big brood of warriors, so a couple of them, as well as the Alpha used 3.2x6.3mm strips, which I then shaved down to make them thinner. Less so on the Alpha, so his swords are a bit thicker as well as longer.

To make sure each Warrior has a matching pair, I cut the plasticard longer than needed, and used a tiny drop of glue on each end to put two strips together, carved in the profile complete with notches, popped them back apart for sharpening, then cut off the extra material at the top and bottom so it's a clean line.

FexEx guy managed to brave the sunny skies today (they gave me a weather exception to delivery yesterday despite no snow since last week) and dropped off my new big base and Deathleaper fig. I definitely prefer the T-Fex on the Large Oval base, it looks much more suited and proportional for his massive bulk and weaponry. Also included is a picture of the old base, to show how little contact he was actually maintaining with the thing.

Lookin good. The bigger base is definitely more-well suited to the bigger model.

BTW: The "braving the sunny skies" bit had me laughing. The postal service in alaska is notoriously unreliable, so I feel your pain.

Finally finished the new Alpha Warrior. I couldn't get a Lashwhip made that I liked, and it was taking too long, so I had to give it up. Anyways, it's up for sale over in the Dakka Swap Shop HERE.

In the mean time, I'm working on some of the new Venomthropes and Gargoyles for my swarm.

I gave the Gargoyles a Toxin Sac at the base of their tail spike, but otherwise they're pretty much unchanged. I did however gave them new rod for their flight stands, given the past poor performance of the clear GW ones, and while I was at it I ranged their size from a bit longer to a bit shorter than normal, to give them a wider range of heights. The rods are a bit narrower however, and I had to use Green Stuff to put them in the base, so they don't stand up on their own until it hardens overnight, so no picture tonight.

Venomthrope I'm giving legs. I don't overly care for the second Lictor version, so I'm using their legs on it. With the squid face, and hunched pose, it's really starting to look more Lictor like itself, so I think I'm going to only give it one pair of the whips, and make the upper arms as smaller, atrophied versions of the Lictor Scything Talons.

Venomthrope looks interesting, Aduro - any chance of a front-on angle, to get a better look at how you've added the Lictor legs to it?

To bad the head is not separate. The legs fit quite well. I knew this model had potential, not as Venomthrope but as everything else. Can't wait to see someone doing an "Alpha Venator" from this thing.

Head's only a problem if you wanted to keep it as a separate bit. It's not stuck in there, so it would be pretty easy to remove. For the legs, I dremeled off the tiny ones that were hanging there, and then used a couple small balls of Green Stuff to put the legs on. It doesn't actually give you much adhesion, but it forms fluff to the surface. Next day I broke em back off with the Green Stuff still attached to the legs, then glued them back on for a better hold. I still need to touch up the joints with some Green Stuff. I dislike the arms all just reaching forward, so I messed with the shoulders and bent the elbows to get some different angles on them. Now the trick is to make some Scytals that are big enough to be recognizable without being big enough to be functional.

Also, the auto focus on the camera picking up on the tentacles, and creating the slightly out of focus body on this picture really amuses me.

Oh yeah, Gargoyles. Want to make a couple in the next batch of ten that are a bit higher yet off the ground, and a couple that are lower, though keeping most of them around the heights already established here. The Gargoyle kit itself is pretty awesome. You can make 40 Gargoyles before you have to start doing any repeats of identical body/wing combinations. My two complaints on the kit are that the heads are not directly compatible with the Gaunt kits, as these have the necks attached to them rather than the body like the Gaunts. The other is that all the guns and their arms are identical, each held at the same angle. They get around this by messing with the positions and angles where the arms attach to the body, making it look like they're held differently.

Got some rudimentary Scytals made up for the Venomthrope. Some shots of those and one with his cousin for comparison. May see about adding some spiky bitz to them. So what is he now, a Lictothrope? Venomtor?

Also got a slightly reposed Deathleaper. When I went to pin him, the legs ended up not lining up right, so they're at a bit of a different angle and will require some gap filling later. I also did not like the way his tail curved up over his shoulder, so I redid that to be more like the standard Lictor.

If Geedub was smart, they'd get a bitz pack of the Venomthrope arms up on their site ASAP, before the other companies make up their own Lashwhip kits. For that matter, a set of three (though I would prefer four) Boneswords for making a Swarmlord should also be on their site.

It's not that I do it quickly, it's that I'm a jobless bum with TONS of free time at the moment. If I wasn't an inherently lazy procrastinator I'd have all this done and painted by now. Assembled two gargoyles, check all the forums for updates, assemble two more, check the forums again, decide I don't want to assemble anymore right now and go play the DS for a couple hours, check the forums, get two more in, watch TV, check forums, decide it's probably way too late and I should go to bed.

Yep, one Gaunt for every ten in the brood can have it, though it triples the cost of a standard Gaunt. Str 2 template that wounds vs the targets Str, which is an odd rule, but fluffy. It's not useful for being killy, but it causes Pinning, and with so few things having Assault Grenades being able to Pin someone will help with charging into cover.

Going to make a few more. I only made three in the first batch because that was all the Venom Cannons I could find. I used the Venom Cannon tips because that was a conversion idea they did in White Dwarf a while back when these made a special appearance, but now that they're done I look at them and think "I could have easily made that gun tip with Green Stuff, why did I cut up my Venom Cannons?" Oh well, I get a cool little spike on the gun from it. The spit bugs on their backs are inspired by the original metal figs, and are a gift to my opponents so they might more easily realize they have something special and not just more of the same.

And from out of left field, Painted Hormagaunts! After the gorgeousness of my dipped Daemons, my old `Nid paint scheme of a simple white drybrush and bone armor no longer suited even me, who doesn't like painting. I've seen a couple versions of stippled color stripes on the armor, generally liked the effect, and thought I'd give it a shot. With the existing white to bone, I decided to keep it complementary and thus did yellow to orange for subtlety, or at least as subtle as you can get with a Fiery Orange stripe down the back. I used a different shade of dip than my Daemons, a Pecan color, that gives it a bit of brown hue rather than just darkening it. And only a quarter of the Hormagaunts broke off their bases while flicking the excess off of them! Anyways, I really like how they turned out, and think it's a nice improvement over the old colors, so I'll probably have to see about getting Alpha painted up to match, since there's a tournament next weekend and I like to make a point of at least having my General painted.

Oh, and yes, Barbed Stranglers also cause Pinning, but my current army list has no units who can take them.

The leaping poses on those hormies are great, very dynamic. I also like how the color of the chitin fades out, as it adds a depth of realism to them.

I finally got my first game in with nids in the new codex yesterday, and I want to build a tyrannofex as well. I may take some inspiration from your work!

Wooo! My bandwagons showed up in the mailbox today! They're pretty much what I was led to believe and expected, which is cheap toys that look fitting for Tyranid Spore Pods. The one thing that did surprise me a little is the undetailed sides. In hindsight it makes sense, as they're molded plastic and can't have that kind of detail a full 360, but in all the pictures people posted of theirs and reviews of the product, no one ever mentioned or showed a picture of the sides. I can work with it though. I didn't plan on leaving them closed anyway, so I think I'll give them a 45 degree turn so the brain/sensor bitz are on all four sides, plus it will give the edges an odd look of not lining up that I think would be interesting.

Also, the extra leapy Hormagaunts were another old GW conversion idea, using the Gargoyle fig with it's longer curved tail as the support. GW, recommending you cut up an $8 fig and a $2 fig, just to make a single $2 fig of a different pose? Noooooo...... I hadn't really planned on doing more because of the cost, just the few to add a bit of variety, but I suddenly have a dozen metal Gargoyle figs I have no plans of using ever again, what ever shall I do with them?
