I keep getting telling myself that I need to set this down and let the stuff I've done set and harden, but then I say oh, just this one more thing... But now I swear, no more work on this tonight. Honest.

Yes, it wouldn't be a tyrant without his "little boss man"! I'm liking how the alpha warrior is coming along. So what kind of weapon symbiotes are you thinking of equipping it with?

Mostly done, minus a few details and gaps. Positioning and posture is just like I was aiming for, and the swords came out really well, though I think they might be a touch too short. 50 bonus points if anyone can tell me what's special about his gun.

Wow. When I decided to start a 40k army, I was considering 'nids, but that was just because I really wanted to build a Trygon. Now I'm glad I didn't. Your stuff is just amazing.
Have you thought about 'embiggening' a Trygon?

Wow, love the pose on the Tyranofex, very dynamic. As for the Apha's Deathspitter, you drilled out the "barrel."
Well done!

nah nah....theres more too it than that....why else would he GS a hand? have you embiggened it....with summit....its not the stock deathspitter, as i got the stock in front of me....have you used a venomcannon bit of summit too make it more bulky?
btw really loving this! my plan for alpha warriors was the much less impressive idea of just using a trio of the third edition hive tyrants (cos they essentialy were giant warriors...) Automatically Appended Next Post: aha! its a different handle bit isnt it? like froma devourer or something, i swears it

I'd say you both are right. He drilled out the barrel obviously, and there is a cut line at the back of the weapon. He needed to GS another hand holding it at that angle, so it is likely that he used a different weapon's arm to provide the unique angle.

Haha, you're all wrong! It's the Deathspitter from the Carnifex kit. One thing I had looked at earlier was using his to see if it would be bigger. Well, the gun's the exact same size, only the arm (not the hand) is bigger, and too big for the Warrior. I did notice it had a few extra details like the extra spike on the bottom and armor plates on top, so I figured I'd use it for a bit more bling on the boss man. While it oddly enough still had a "thumb" I did have to GS in the second hand to hold it.
Here's an Old fig I did awhile back, just because I thought it would be cool at the time, and have never really had a use for it. I saw it sitting on the shelf last night and thought "Hey, it's the Doom of (insert eldar craftworld here)!"

As much as I am impressed by the Carnifex and Hive Tyrant, I think the best of the rather bounteous bunch is that Alpha Warrior...absolutely brilliant!
The Hive Tyrant is great but I think you need to enlarge his head a bit because it looks a little bit lost at the moment...it would also keep the Tyrant in the same theme as the rest.
I know it is going to be tricky because it is metal but if it can't be done, there are always the spare fex heads to chop up and play with...having seen your work so far, a converted Tyrant head would be easy for you.
Excellent work so far and I look forward to seeing more!

So I was feeling kind of lazy today, and didn't want to mess with the final gap filling and touch up work on Alpha today. Instead I merely built him a retinue of nine Tyranid Warriors, complete with custom Boneswords for the lot. No, I don't understand how that works either. Anyways, I liked how his swords worked out, so I copied them for all his pals, and then made a new set of bigger swords for him. The unit's Heavy got his old ones, because they're still one of the nicer sets.
Tomorrow, I think I need to fix my vacuum cleaner, because all this plasticard work is leaving quite a bit of a mess. I'll probably end up finishing Alpha instead.

Got the Tyrant's sword fixed up. It's got a little more curve than I would prefer, but it flows pretty smooth and was a pain in the butt to make, so I don't think I'll redo it unless it starts to bug me. I also got him onto the correct size base. I had planned to give him the T-Fex's base when the new large oval I ordered arrived, but then I found this one buried under a pile of junk on my desk. Thought I was out of this size.

Aduro, thanks for the side-effect demo you've given of how to correctly embiggerize 'Nids.

I'm calling Alpha done. Filled all the gaps and done all the extra details I can think of wanting to do. Let the last of the work set up overnight, and then I'll see about priming him and the T-Fex and hoping everything's smooth enough that you can't really see the seams.

So I pretty much emptied a can of primer today getting a bunch of stuff ready to paint up, and I gotta say I was pleased with both Alpha and the T-Fex. With all the random colors they get on them from previous coats of paint, raw plastic, plasticard, and green stuff, it can sometimes be hard to tell how smooth certain areas really are. Once everything gets a coat of paint then you can really see the stuff you messed up and seams that didn't get fully evened out or filled in. T-Fex has some spots on him, mostly on the ankles or lower legs, but the vents where I was worried it would show more are baby butt cheek smooth, and Alpha's just as good. Granted they sat next to the desk here for a couple days and I just keep going back over them and poking stuff over and over again because I'm a paranoid git with anxiety issues, so hey. They are now destined to suffer a mediocre paint job.
Speaking of odd anxiety issues, I finally going to give something a try I've been wanting to do for a long time but never really sat down and tried to see how it went over. Converting figs up to sell. I've seen others who seem to have good success at it, and people keeping telling me how they like my work, and who doesn't want to be able to make money on something they enjoy doing to start with. To start it off, I'm going to make Alpha a brother, since he seemed quite popular and the upcoming good Codex entry with no official fig should help with the demand. Due to the nature of the fig, I don't think I'll assemble it, but keep it as a kit with separate Head, Thorax, Abdomen+Legs, and Arms with various weapon options, to let whoever gets it to pose it how they want.

Going about this second Alpha (Beta?) slightly different than the first. First off, in a move to conserve on bitz I'm making his head crest and extra back plate out of plasticard rather than carapace bitz, and it seems to have worked out just fine. Secondly I didn't cut and biggerize the abdomen/tail bit, as after you factor in the material removed by a saw, I don't really think a single piece I did in the first one really added more than a hair's width to it, but the proportions still looked good in the end anyways. It simply added more work to the project.
