Just imagine yourself in front of a crowd that wants you to smack talk the other party, that's all you focus on. Now, you remembered to attack the other party, but you didn't make the crowd feel any better, they're just angry and you forgot to make them feel better.
That's a poor justification for writing "lift american spirits" on her hand, but its easy to forget a lot of things. Next time you go to a retail store ask the cashier if they remembered everything they were supposed to ask you before you leave.

Which brings us back to what I said on the first page;

"It isn't so much the use of an aid, but the actual message she's put on her hand. When people dismiss Palin they'll say her politics could be summed up as wanting to drill for oil, cut taxes and making people feel nice. And there it is, written on her hand. It's pretty much why I suspect its a photoshop - it's too perfect."

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

I think Palin is a great figurehead for the concept of the tea-party movement. The problem is that she appears to be nothing more than a human talking point. Terrorists bad. Hunting and guns good. God good. Taxes bad. Liberal-tree-hugging-hippies bad. That she quit as governor of Alaska, when the State has looming budget problems, doesn't speak well for her ability to manage the basic tenants of the tea party - lower taxes, stop wasteful government spending, and reduce the deficit.

I hope she doesn't get any party's nomination in 2012.

She would have been more convincing as a candidate with broad appeal if she had stayed as Governor of Alaska and made a good job of running the state.

But that would have required, like, uhm....what's that word I'm looking for? oh, yeah, Work.

Personally, I think she realized that if she stayed as Gov, the budget crisis would drag down her political career, so like a rat, she jumped off the sinking ship and hopes to capitalize on her 15 minutes.

If that's true, then she is actually quite intelligent. I don't think its true though. I think she either crumpled under the criticism, or was given directed by party headquarters.

So, it had nothing to do with all of the ethical complaints the DNC was filing against her? The ones taking up all her time and money while being completely bogus (since they were all disproven)?

I get people don't like her or her politics. But to call her an idiot while Biden rolls around yapping at the mouth when he is not running over former olympic athletes? Both sides have their dolts. If you don't like her, call her out on her policies. Making fun of petty things like her notes on her hand, her kids, her husband seems pretty juvenile to me. Yes, she comes across as folksy and the Couric interviews did not help. But, if you have this much disdain for her because of this, why are you not FUMING that the vice president is doing his daily best to top her? At least she is not in office.....

That would be criticism, which she may have crumpled under.

Yes, they do. But that doesn't mean they shouldn't be called idiots. Why would you assume that I think Democrats are paragons of intelligence due to my criticism of Palin? Quite foolish.

Biden seems a poor example in comparison to Palin, for many different reasons.

I would suggest finding a better Dem to throw in the pit with Palin, this popcorn ain't cheap!

Her opponents will have a field day with that.

"So you QUIT your governorship because there was a little too much heat in your kitchen after things stopped going smoothly in your state of 700,000 people, some minor scandals emerged, and because you felt people were picking on you and your family.

AND you want to be President of the United States of America. Are you going to quit when Jay Leno makes a few jokes about you?"

Bag and tag her.

I mean, does she really think everyone -- her GOP opponents and the Dems -- are going to "play nice?" It's kind of the funniest part in all of this. The Palins are really that dumb and that naive to think she's presidential material, when her actions show she's furthest from.

And again, the interesting parts are what happens to the Tea Partiers after their flagbearer goes down in flames in the GOP primaries, and whether Sarah and Todd would swallow their pride to be the VP candidate again.

Edit: I heard this morning that Rick Santorum is stumping around in Iowa with an eye toward 2012. He might be enough of a right-wing rabble rouser to get some Tea Party votes without Palin on the ticket, but can he win over the moderates? I tend to think that will be hard for him, given his record.

I think Santorum is too conservative to get elected -- that's why he got booted from a purple state like PA -- but I personally wouldn't understimate him either. Being presidential is very different from being a firebrand in the Senate, but he's a smart enough guy to know that and adjust, and he's more calculating than people give him credit for. I really wouldn't be surprised if he's a guy the right wing of the party rallies around during the primaries, at least in the early going. He's a lot more palatable and electable than Palin, at least.

Now, Palin is going really seeking out controversy. Attacking Family Guy.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100217/ap_on_en_tv/us_palin_family_guy

In a Facebook posting headlined "Fox Hollywood — What a Disappointment," the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee and current Fox News contributor said Sunday night's episode felt like "another kick in the gut." Palin's youngest son, Trig, has Down syndrome.

Wait a minute? Family Guy is tasteless and crude? Gasp! That's inconceivable! Next thing you know, she'll get mad at Letterman for making jokes....er, wait...... I can't decide if her objective is to prevent any preceived attacks on her, or if it's to keep her name in the spotlight. It's probably both. Personally, I watched the episode, and I thought the "my mom is the former governor of Alaska" crack was pretty funny. And again, using Facebook? Really? Why not talk about it on Fox News. Or issue a press release. Be a real politician. I don't see Obama or McCain issuing statements on Facebook about how unfair it is for people to make jokes about them.

I'm sure that her failure to go after Limburger has nothing to do with him being the self-appointed spokesman for the ultra-right-wing. Nothing at all........

I wonder what would happen if Rush commented about the "slow" on Family Guy making a joke about her mom being the former governor of Alaska......

His joke was pretty crappy. I think he honestly the daughters mixed up, but with either daughter it was a crappy joke.

But that doesn't mean Palin's reaction was anything short of absurd. If an angry parent turned up and punched Letterman, at least it would have been honest. But Palin's theatrical reactions is carefully carefully chosen outrage... as noted she doesn't seem so bothered when Limbaugh uses 'slow'.

I think you have to separate the recent thing from the daughter joke. One's seriously different. As noted I'd have gone berserk and the phrase "enraged rhino mother WITH GUNS" comes to mind when you mention She Who Must Be Obeyed and the wee ones (ok ones taller than her now not so wee).

Yeah, if a parent turned up as Letterman left the studio and popped him I'd probably be alright with it. Private citizen reacting to an offensive joke about his kid. All cool.

If Palin had reacted privately, either by contacting Letterman privately or by sending the First Dude around there to deck Letterman, I'd see no problem. But turning it into a media spectacle was crap.

At one point does a proven failure of a government official, rightly accused of several acts of ethics violation and corruption, who campaigned on family values deserve to have her fethed up family mocked on television? If she faded into the background and just tried to continue to live her life I would take issue, but she's taking it all for a ride and trying to catch as much screen time as she can. Does she deserve sympathy at all? This is just like the "Dick Cheney has a lesbian daughter" thing. He does, she is, he shouldn't be talking about family values and the seditious "gay lifestyle".

If she can exploit her family for personal gain, why can't comedians mock her for it?

Do you remember that time that thing happened?
This is a bad thread and you should all feel bad

Yea it is actually, both are/were underage at the time.
In light of Letterman banging the staff, the joke was particularly lecherous. But I don't watch Letterman so I don't particularly care.
