didn't the DE make an appearance in one of the souldrinkers books as well?
And i think a lot of the crappiness of the original model range was due to gary morly, the cs goto of the sculpting world lol.
It'd be nice if they did redo the DE closer to the lines of how the dark elves in whfb are portrayed, maybe add harliquins as a troop choice as well to further cement the links between the two(3?) offshoots of the race

They need to get all the design team (especialy the people who do the really good model kits like the trygon, valk, screaming bell, etc) and do a serious re-construction of the DE model range.
Add some awesome units that everybody will love and call cheesey (Trygon's, valks, etc) and you got yourself a new best seller.
And i agree on the fact that Relic mostly recreated DE on DoW:Soulstorm better than what GW actualy designed..

All just speculation/wishlisting at this point. The only part of the post pertaining to any rumour was on the first page. Nothing new since. I'm a DE player but there's no reason for me to speculate or wish about what I want GW to do with the army. I'll wait til they're released.

This is all a good idea, and i hope it foes ahead. The DE seriosuly need an update (and there are a few things that need to be changed with the eldar too) and i think along with the new models that should be realeased with it, would be a good seller also.
This could be good news for necron players too, because if GW have finally woken up and smelt the bacon then they should realise they need to re-release necrons too.

I cannot speak for all DE players, but I know my thoughts on this;
To a certain extent - quite content. In the final analysis what I *really want is the good models and I have been quite successful with my DE in competitive play so I don't feel a drastic need for a new codex as I do for new models.
That said, I do wish for the old and outdated rules from the codex to have errata so they are useful (we have a plethora of wargear that under current rules has no effect) I also wouldn't mind seeing certain very fluffy and cool concept but gamewise Smurfed up units (Scourges and Mandrakes top that list) get a bit of a reworking so that whenever I feel like being competitive I have an option other then Wyches, Warriors, Raiders, and Ravagers. Yeah, I can get a bunch of different lists out of that, but even if Mandrakes and Scourges could be made semi-competitive (like Reaver Jetbikes) I could get a *lot* more variation from the army.
Still - given an either/or choice I would pick models first every time.

Honestly, I'd probably start DE if GW released new models, even if we didn't see a new codex. That being said, I can't imagine GW doing anything major with any outdated army without releasing a new codex. Lets be realistic, who is going to want shiny new models to go with their 10 year old 'dex? Codexes are written to sell models, we seem to forget that. Without a fancy new book, no one is going to be bothered to collect a full army of DEldar. Otherwise you get people picking up a box or two to paint because they look pretty, but no substantial model sales.

Would we get a troop option that was any good? One of our best FOS options is our troop slot, and we really only have the one type of troop even if it is classified as two different types. So if they became terrible it would be difficult. Our second best FOS is our HQs, which are all good as well. So, certainly, if you mean how would I react if GW made all DE troop and HQ selections unplayable I would have to admit I would have a negative reaction.
If we're just talking stuff like Fast, Heavy, and Elite slots (which is where GW usually seems to do their flip-floppery) - I'm probably a little bit of a bad person to ask since considering the number of Scourges, Hellions, and Mandrakes I own - I really wouldn't worry about it at all (though I would have to actually get around to painting the rest of my Hellions).

According to the common GW conspiracy theory, GW makes the new models awesome and the older models unplayable. The Dark Eldar range is being completely redone. Ergo ALL the units will be awesome.
Also it's only ever the gamers that need to buy whole new armies. The collectors have everything anyway, and only need buy the new stuff. Of course the need to buy that new stuff is compulsive.

Which is why I have 60+ unpainted warriors waiting to used to update my current DE force. Seriously, I said it somewhere else before, there's no way I'm going to re-invest in an army when I already have it. The best I could think of doing is a Wych Cult if new plastics are released for them.

I consider myself a gamer over a collector (and certainly over a painter - I usually just hope opponent's don't wince when they see my paintjobs). That said, I do tend to buy at least the ability to field about one of every unit in the codex more or less and it's simply because, as a gamer, I really love the ability to constantly modify and adjust my army as the mood or need strikes me. I'll admit, considering the number of people I see building a list and then buying minis for it, that I appear to be in the minority on that score.

The bigger question is what new models/units will be introduced. Marines, IG, Tyranids all got several brand new units, some with existing fluff/background and some completely out of the blue. I don't read the 40K novels and such, but I don't see much talk of dark eldar in the fluff world that isn't represented on the tabletop.
Also, DE have some of the only original deployment gimmicks with things like the webway portal. With their background as always attacking and raiding, coupled with GW's increasing use things like outflanking and bonuses to reserve rolls, I'd imagine something very unusual.
