Looks like fun! Great to see kids enjoying the game. I must say, those gun emplacements were really cool! The rest of the terrain and the models look great too! For the Emperor!

Minnesota ya

No rush we understand, I have a family of my own and I've been trying to finish my 1.5k IG army when I decided to start a guard army again at the beginning of this year. Since then I've completed a company command squad and a manticore lol though I should have my demolisher finished by this Sunday.

My friends have been letting me proxy my High elf army for units in my IG list. Nothing better then HE spearmen and archers as PIS

How are you working the campaign map? i haven't seen anything about it?

Loving the reports and the fluff BTW!

And do you offer advice to your kids during the game as well as after?

That "map" is really just a visual tally counter to keep track of games won: each Imperial symbol equals a win for them, and an ork symbol a win for me.
We aren't actually moving counters on any physical map, etc. The campaign is story/scenario based.

And yes they have free access to advice during the game. They might ask me "should I move this unit up into cover here or stay still and fire at x", etc. and I'll give them some feedback on what might happen with each choice, or what one I think is safer or more threatening from my side of the table, etc. Funny thing is they often don't go with what I suggest, wanting to try something of their devising...

Last year got crazy with work and real life responsibilities and my digital camera went bye bye, but the campaign is soon to continue. We are in the process of getting some more models and new terrain painted up for a COD game very soon (featuring my Orks vs. my son's Cadian IG) and will be posting it asap...

Very inspiring campaign!

Join the Imperial Guard. The pay's lousy, the battles fierce and you probably won't ever come back again. BUT you get a lasgun.

small update of sorts (still no batrep, sorry ):

The boys and I decided to customize our tape measures, a turn counter and to do some basic objective markers for future use:

Some quick spray painting (lesson learned: never give a five year old a spray can) and decals added to tapes and markers as well as a press molded Aquilla added to a commercial turn counter gives some decen results, and leaves us with some functional pieces that have a little more 40K vibe and help cut down on whose tape measure is whose, etc. This was fun game related project with the guys that gave them a little practice applying decals to boot...

Work commences on a bunch of IG and SM infantry and vehicles in preperation for the COD batrep:

1. Griffin's IG infantry have had a makeover with Pig Iron heads and are looking more killy and hardcore without the Cadian "Space Ball Helmets
2. A bunch of chimeras, Russes and other armor is in various stages of completion
3. Finishing up some Ultramarine vehicles
4. Finishing an Ultramarine Librarian based off of the Space Hulk plastic Librarian (storm shield added)

5. Finishing some terrain pieces and a new urban 4'X4' board to be used in next game:

Also: I received a new digi-cam for Valentine's day which solves that issue as well (and hence the pic above).

Stay tuned, we are getting close.

Nice work there, thats a pretty good idea. Tape measures are a bit too squarish to make them convincingly eldar looking though.....
Anyways, can't wait for the bat rep. May the meanest (and greenest) army win.

Awesome board and terrain. How were you able to get so many of the old GW bulkheads?

Glad to see someone else playing 40k with their kids. I have an 8 and 6 year old that have been playing for about a year or so. When we were picking out their armies the youngest asked about what each one was like. When I got to the Tyranids and said their goal was to eat everyone he said "Chomp! Chomp! Awesome!" and had to have them. He's pretty blood thirsty in his play style (ignoring objectives in order to completely kill a unit), so it seems a good match for him.

Our main thing is to pay respect to a few ground rules. The first one being: Have Fun. The second rule in our house is if there is a disagreement that can't be resolved quickly by talking it out then you pick up a D6, roll for it, and move on. The third rule is more of a solid life lesson: while winnng is fun you can learn a lot when you lose. We try and do a post mortem on our battles to see what went right and what went wrong. I'm also like you in that any and all advice is freely given.

So far things have worked out wonderfully. Lately we've been working on unit match up skills such as learning that a Hive Tyrant can't take on Abaddon by itself...

I've let each of them paint their own armies. Which, I have to admit, was a bit hard watching the 6 year old all but doodle on a $50 trygon... Of course it was even harder when my wife say the receipt and said, "you paid what for a piece of plastic?!?"

As far as the wallet is concerned, yeah, I've put a lot into this. We have 4 complete armies (2k points or more) and 2 more in the works plus some terrain and buildings. But the money is nothing compared to the amount of time we spend together doing something.
