I did these a while back, but here are 2 units of vets with shotguns, plus a hq command squad that travels around with them to make a sort of "vet platoon" kinda thing.

For the shotguns, I ordered the marine scout shotgun arms from battlewagon bitz. The arms didn't quite fit right so I had to do some filing and a little greenstuff at the joints. It's not perfect but they look fine on the table.

I also have a cadian Harker that I made with the scout heavy bolter, but I haven't gotten around to painting him yet...

Excellent!
Could you go into a little more detail on what exactly you used/where you got them from (possible links too)?
They are exactly what Im looking for in regards to this thread:

One thing I love about the army is how even if the regular men are plain looking, all it takes is a few extra bitz thrown in and you can easily make some awesome looking models. And thanks to all the wars we fight there's so much inspiration out there for different looks and themes. I think out of all the armies IG is the one thats the easiest and most fun to make unique.

Sure, here is the post I did when I was first making them with some in progress pics
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/252740.page

I basically took the IG lasgun arm with the shoulder stock, cut off the gun, and then attached the back end of the shotgun in it's place and covered the joint with a little greenstuff. I kept the scout hand on the bottom of the gun, and glued that to the guard left arm wrist spot. On some of the wrists I had to trim it off at an angle to get it to line up right but it wasn't too bad.

Heres where you can get the bitz from BW Bitz..
http://www.thewarstore.com/product33980.html

You can try other bitz sellers or find a friend that made scouts with bolters and he might have shotguns left over.

0k, I have an issue now..... major pissed off too.... 90% done with my IG Human Aux only to find out (my wife noticed right off) that the FW upgrade heads are actually smaller...This is from the Cadian upgrade pack with respirators… and if my wife noticed... this is yet another disappointment… and the final straw with me and FW.
Are the Pig Iron heads closer to the actual size GW heads?
I need something….so I can finish these which was my “goal” for today before sitting down and pigging out on Turkey….. so bummed.
If anyone wants these heads PM me, you can have them…they suck !!!

The Pig Iron heads are a bit smaller than the GW heads as well. However GW heads are rather out of proportion and unless you have the models fixed right next to each other a bit of variation in size is probably not noticeable at distance. Add in a bit of paint and its hard to tell.

At least their add for those heads clearly states, fits 25-30MM miniatures.
My issue with the FW heads is you would think being FW & GW are pretty much one in the same that they would be a little closer in size.
I’m measuring a difference of 3/32 which in these little guys is a big difference.

FW is for 28mm though (just like the PI heads)

But FW is more inclined to 28mm Truescale than the supersized-almost 32mm 28mm heroic GW

As far as FW heads go, I ordered them once before, not with respirators, but honestly they seemed fine to me once on the model and painted. Mixed in with the other models, you don't notice at all. For pig iron heads, the only ones I ever liked were the full helmet ones like in the penal squad above, the others always looked kinda silly to me for some reason.

They were sculpted by col gravis and every praetorian player should visit his blog. he's hardcore. they're probably quite good. for reference my praetorian stormtroopers use his helmets and I imagine they're the same ones on those heads.

the torsos for the vets are the same. but, as mentioned, when you get everything put together and painted, you don't really notice it as much.

In all truth, its simply from the Grave Guard boxed set. No special work needed.
Only Veterans and Officers have them too

I love peoples faces when they play my army. Mostly because when they destroy a Chimera and see some skeletons pop out. It's just something so few would bother to convert.

the models are supposed to be filded on the bases that come with them. You don't get much more classic than those boys and so the standard 25mm base is fine
