Or they have dental bionics.
Marines in the fluff wear them,I remember that an Iron Snake who fought Dark Eldar Archon only took helmet off because it was too damagaged and in the end that helped him to win(and he was on the brink of losing) because he could spit acid saliva at the Eldar.

Hail to the creeeeeeeeeeeeeeed!baby Ask not the moot a question, for he will give you three answers, all of which will result in a public humiliation.

I do find these threads rather funny, especially in the context of other threads when people complain about Gaunts Ghosts and the night-dudes (or whataever they were called) killing Chaos Space Marines, since pretty much, thread A answers the question to thread B.

My Tau don't take their helmets off, because it's stupid.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

So, in all of this, no one has considered the fact the fact that the reason the Space Marine leaders take their helmets off is not because they have a tiny shield generator proecting them, but it's to show their troops their fearlessness? It's like the Civil War general riding horseback, leading troops into battle, or the Russian captain charging ahead with only a Tokarev pistol. Come on people, actually use some creativity *and* common sense!

What happened to the BA, if you dont mind me asking?

Kind of funny, this is a 'spoiler' of sorts, don't read if you intend to read Soul Hunter (although it doesn't really give anything significant of the plot away):

Spoiler:
A boarding party of Blood Angels is attacking one of the Night Lord ships. The narrative had switched to the viewpoint of one of the BA, the sergeant. He takes off his helmet so he can smell everything around him and experience things more fully. When they are searching through the ship, they are ambushed by the Night Lords (lead by the books main protagonist) who gets into a big fight with the sergeant. During the fight, Talos (the NL) shoots at almost point blank into the BA - the shot lodges in his neck, and the marine has a fraction of a second to register a look of outrage on his face before the shell explodes and blows his head off It's actually written much better than my paraphrase here, but I felt it was an allusion to the marines folly of taking part in a boarding action (where you can get surprised from any direction, and in a fraction of a second) and not wearing a helmet.

Firing my Hellgun into a Fire Warrior's head....

This was said earlier but it seems to be alot of the high ranking guys that are modeled without their helmets. I would say its psychological. "my face will be the last thing your pathetic eyes ever see" (Arbiter from Halo wars) Not to mention, yes you do lose the protection of the helmet without one (duh). Who cares though? Who wants to live in the 40k universe? Sure its cool from the outside looking in but damn. Life would suck if you actually lived in it.

I always think its kinda funny when we play games based on ships or hostile environments and buddy puts his helmetless sergeants on the table. Guess he can indefinitely hold his breath eh? oh well, everyones already said how much more flavourful it is than another helmet. to be fair i have seen some nice additions to the helmets like wreaths ect but you know, painting skin and hair takes some skill for sure!

Yeah pretty much. What gave you the impression otherwise?
Though this thread seems to have fulfilled it's purpose more or less.

Well, how much quibbling can go on about the choice of noggin protection chosen by the AA? I for one seem to have noticed a rock paper sizzor quality to the conversation. Real world thinking beats Game/Model Flavor, Game/Model Flavor beats Troop Uniformity, and Troop Uniformity beats Real World thinking. And around and around we go.

If not for the mediocre who would be great, and thank goodness for those who are just terrible they make even those who are mediocre look great

Basically people say that the models you see are merely representations of their imaginary counter parts. Whatever actions they are doing are only a snapshot of their actions on the battlefield.
Bare-headed marines could represent a marine who has lost his helmet due to enemy fire or some other reason.

But wouldn't it be nice if thewre would at least be a hellmet nearby (like on the base), so we know that he actually has one and that he is not completely psycho and dillusional?

Diplomacy is having a bigger gun than the other guy

Plenty of people model damaged helmets.

I remember that.

Why is this thread still alive? I think we get the point.

I picked up on that reasoning a while ago, it fits into the category of real world logic or thinking (helmet damaged in battle already) and Game Model Flavor (He looks different because its only a snapshot.)

Well, it's a lazy Sunday afternoon here and time to flog the old horse carcass again.

There was a nice skull that came with the AOBR set, it had a hole in the forehead and most of the back missing, perhaps this could make a suitable helmetless head for completeness' sake.
