I had assumed it was normal for you, since it was so casually expressed that I would be beaten.
So your issue is with the harpy flying? You don't like that it flies that high? Its not a base size issue you're having, as my models do not have a base. If there was a base at the bottom of the dowel, they would just measure to that...
The local scene can accurately be described as "Butt-jumped". I'm not sure why its like this, but that has been the last 4 Tournaments at my local GW.
You're seeing the product of this- a player who is more than willing to play nice, and more than prepared to not.

Tyranids attract more tang than an astronaut convention.

"Dangerous terrain where you just die upon rolling a 1 is for sissies. Parts of the board you wont even move your models into because you're physically afraid of being stung by wasps? Welcome to a Tyranid invasion, cue danger music. "

Ah, no, I was just intrigued. I've never known anyone be quite so... extreme, when it came to modelling for advantage, so I wondered whether such extreme behaviour on your part might provoke unusually extreme behaviour on your opponents' part too.
I don't think that modelling any flying unit on a stand that is five times higher than the highest official stand for a flying unit is likely to go down well with any opponent, or any tournament organiser.

Ian Sturrock wrote:Really -- an hour to play a 2000 point game? That's... not quite as silly as the 25" flying base idea, but it's pretty silly. Why does anyone run a tournament where the standard games are only half-games, or less? Why does anyone else go to them? Why does no-one local run tournaments where you can actually play a game of 40K, instead of a third of a game?
It's not so silly really if we know that he's playing in GW tournaments, since GW only push space marines and marines have very few models on the table at one time, it can be very possible to play a 5 turn game in 1 hour, assuming both know the rules and they play according to 5th ED which = tanks

The idea that someone would be idiotic enough to conceptualize, never mind run, a 2k tournament with one hour rounds is so idiotic and repellant that it RATHER puts Doomthumbs' creative rules and modeling ideas into perspective.
FWIW, if I were in his position, I think I'd look for somewhere better to play rather than coming up with ways to be a jerk back to jerks and posting it on the internet in what is ostensibly a tactics thread, but YMMV.
DT does have some cool and creative tactics and builds which are indeed interesting and inspiring. I just wish they weren't mixed in with the questionable interpretations and ideas about 25" high flying stands.
