Well, 7 Harlies are better than 6!

I look at the group and I see they are a unit. But they are not tied up by colour choices nor regular pattens. More that they will stand out from the rest of your army as they are somewhat brighter! Odd (in my limited Eldar experience) to see a group like that but I think it suits Harlies well.

On the 7th one,I think you should go for a check pattern again. I think if you compare the Harlie you did first compared to last there is marked improvement. Why not give it another go? Plus it's not like they are going to appear in many other places in this army. Unless you give them a dedicated transport.... no, stop it Taff, it's not your money! lol

Hiya, Taff! Thanks for the comments! Unfortunately, the 7th member is nearly complete - and I did her in polka dots. A lovely mix of pastel pink & greens & blues, with orange/red hair. Just have to do the washes on her and she'll be done - am away from my painting stuff for a few days, but expect I'll have her done on Wednesday & will post the new pic then. Thanks SO much for following & writing! I'll probably do more of the checker pattern on the new unit of Harlies I assembled a few months ago but have yet to prime & paint...

Preppy Harlie girl is DONE. Did pics of front/back, as well as another "group" photo. Am now working on the Guardian squad - and am very dismayed that my primer spray left a sandpapery grit all over the minis (said can is now ready for garbage - even though it was >80% full, it won't spray any more). They look horrible thus far, so I'll probably just let them stay looking horrible and call them my "mutant" squad. Maybe I'll make them proxy Stormies and do more red on them to make them stand out even more, and may even let the Green Stuff stay in their arms/shoulders w/o any paint touchups. That means I'll have to get me another squad of Guardians later...

Got my "messed up mutant" Guardians completed (will spare everyone the pic because of the "sandpaper" effect messing up the paint after primed with a messed up can). Also ordered a new squad - will make sure they're assembled properly & primed with GOOD stuff! Started on Prince Yriel, am keeping to his traditional colors for cloak & Ulthwe black & bone underneath. Expect to have him done tomorrow afternoon, just in time to pack up for the Apocolypse game in 2 days. Counted up my points - will be WYSIWIG, and with all the extras added I'll have a total of 4,019 points - 3,835 of that painted!

Anyone want me to take another pic of either ALL of them massed together or a group shot of 1 from every unit? It's been a few months since I took one like that...

Thanks, Steed! We're still setting up the Apocolypse game - sides will be Chaos Marines, Grey Knights & I.G. vs Eldar, Tau & Necrons. On 3 tables with bridges - I'm starting out on a table against the I.G. guy and the Grey Knights. I'm having mild panic attacks and will be happy to make it to turn 3...

Quick bit on the Apoc game (know this isn't the venue for talking about games). Lasted >14H, over 2 days, had to stop early because the IG player had to go home. Ended bottom of round 4 with my team VICTORIOUS!!!!! WOOT WOOT WOOT!!! Brings my record now up to 2-1-7! Made some mistakes, as usual - fielded Avatar & Eldrad by themselves in front/center, should have put some Guardians with them for meat shield. Eldrad taken out before he could do any psych stuff, Avatar only had 1 wound left for rest of game. Also made mistake I've been doing since day 1 - forgetting to RUN my units up for CC (I tend to focus on not wanting to get anyone killed). Had taken an Apoc power called "Eldrich Tempest" which used the big template (5 overlapping circles, for those who haven't seen one), took out >30IG's with it (thank God). Lost a few guys in different squads after an orbital bombardment from the Knights, but Pathfinders stood their ground & kept picking at the IG's. Lost a full unit of Banshees (w/ exarch & Jain Zar) after attacked by a Paladin unit (5 of them, Librarian, Apothecary & Grand Master) - but took out 2 units of IG's in CC first. One unit of Guardians lost d/t constant shooting of IG's - even though they were primarily behind a building (grrrrr). Lost 2nd unit of Banshees after they killed part of a Plague Marine unit (then they were hit with a Doom Siren - no saves). Purgation squad of GK's took out my Reapers before they could do anything - made mistake of bringing them in from reserve rather than fielding them right away, so they couldn't shoot. Paladin unit ended up attacking my downed Serpent & blew it up (had been damaged by them previously). GK's summoned the Dread Knight from another table to come onto ours, and I was actually starting to get somewhere on it when we had to stop the game. All in all we held 4 objectives to the other team's 3, and there's no WAY they could have gotten our objectives by the end off round 5 (they admitted this). Felt bad for the Tau player - all of his stuff was set up on one table, and he only had 1 unit of Chaos Marines to go up against! Thank goodness for Eldrad's Divination - was able to move some rail guns etc. (4 units) over to my table to help me against practically all of the IG & GK's (they both had ~2 units on the Necron table, which also had the rest of the Marines). I DEFINITELY learned a lot, and am thinking more about how to field my units next time. Am waiting for my 3rd unit of Guardians to arrive, and will probably get a few more of them (units) to use as shields. Just ordered 2 more Warlocks and have another one I'm thinking of getting so that I can have a Seer Council - have heard that they will be VERY good to use. Am also getting more Rangers/Pathfinders. They have held up great every time I've used them. All in all, lost Eldrad, Avatar, Farseer, a full unit of Guardians, the Prism, the Serpent, the Reapers, a WL, and both units of Banshees - otherwise everything else remained (some units lost 1-2 of the unit, but did well overall).

Back to painting! Started doing the checker pattern on 2 more of the new Harlies, hope to get them finished this week and will post pics again. Will also be taking the army pic that taff had requested, will get that posted probably tomorrow. Happy 4th to everyone here in the States, and have a good week everyone!

Here ya go, Taff. Pic of both the full 4,016 point army used in Apocolypse and also a pic of the army (reps from each unit except for full old Harlie unit). Also finished the second Harlie in the new group. Just purchased 2 more Warlocks on eBay (waiting to win a 3rd one to get a Seer Counsel), and also just purchased 7 more Rangers - will need to strip & repaint them, but then will have 2 6-man Pathfinder units. Working on 3rd new Harlie now, expect to get pics posted within a day or two.

Got 2 of the new Warlocks painted (waiting for others to arrive), so am on my way to having full Seer Council. Also got Harlie #4 painted; 3 more to go in the new unit and I'll be able to do another group picture! #5 has the cloak, so I'm guessing he's the Troupe Leader, even though he doesn't have the blade that my old unit Troupe Leader had. Doing stripes on him just like the first unit had (cloak), we'll see what other colors strike my fancy as I work more on him...

Lots of pics to post today (for now). New Harlequin unit is finished, I think - last one I may go back & do stripes on his boots, depending on what feedback you guys give me. I'd be up for doing white stripes on them, but will only do if you readers think it will help. Have front & backs posted for the last 3 Harlies, as well as a group photo that I just took. Hope y'all like them. First set of pics is for Troupe Master. I KNOW the stripes aren't as clean as they should be, but they'll have to do for now. If I get bored down the road may touch them up some more...

Also finished another Warlock, am waiting for an eBay purchase of 6-7 more so I can have at least one Seer Counsil. Like the last one - he had a furry demi-cape I hadn't seen before. Will probably post all the Warlocks together after they arrive & are painted. I also did 2 new Wraithlords - both now assembled & painted, have Ulthwe hand-drawn symbol on the front loin panel (didn't use the skirts). Will post them a bit later. Also got another old-model Wraithlord (will bring me up to a total of 5), will have to get him painted as well. Am currently working on a unit of Guardians I got on eBay - much harder to paint these dudes with their arms already glued on, I'm finding out. Will probably have them done later today, then will be starting on a group of Pathfinders (have 5 now, will bring me up to a total of 12) with a camoflage pattern - and can then touch up some chips that my other guys got on their cloaks. Got a carrying case on eBay, waiting for that to arrive - will be nice being able to protect my paint jobs rather than having them get all messed up carryiing them around in baggies in a box! Have to admit it was an easy way to keep them organized...

Next two are the "Bunny Harlie" (you'll figure out why she's called this) and the one that I'm considering doing stripes on his boots... Last pic is the group shot...

So here are the Wraithlords. Interesting story on these two. One on the left was bought on eBay (had been painted black & bright red), seller said it had been in with a lot of other 40K stuff he'd wanted. Said there were some sprues in with him as well. Got him for a rediculously low price (<$20), and when he arrived turns out that the sprues were for a COMPLETE second Wraithlord, along with weapons for the first one! Woot woot woot! Got the first one stripped, and magnetized the right hand & shoulder mounts on old one; magnetized arms, hands, and shoulder mounts for the sprue one. Am pretty pleased with the results; Ulthwe design on front was hand drawn by me. Thank GOD something larger than the diamond patterns on the Harlies! Now to get started on the 2nd unit of Pathfinders. Got the new unit of 6 Warlocks, all painted a moss green w/ red & brass - am going to hold off stripping & painting them for a little while. At least they're painted. Need to look for some Falcons on eBay for a low cost - someone recommended I use small numbers of DA's in them (5 each) to use as a shooting troop choice for getting/holding objectives. Only have 2 skimmers now (Serpent & Prism) so this may be a good place to start expanding again...

Cool man, I just skimmed down your blog, and see the painting skills improving steadily. I wish I had the time or patience for it. I figure my army will be painted by the time the next Eldar codex comes out.

Just finished the new Pathfinders (never use the guys as plain Rangers, which is why I always call them Pathfinders). Will be posting pics soon, I hope; will also try to post some pics with the new AND old guys together. Did one of the new guys to go along with the old unit (brown base & satin finish); new unit's based with black plastic & a matte finish. I think that the painting's improved, which is why I'd like to do the pic with the two units together. Will then start working on the new old metal Wraithlord (am currently stripping him)...

So here are the new Pathfinders. As I mentioned, I'm also including the front/backs of one of the original unit to compare with the new unit model - you SHOULD be able to tell the difference! Am finishing up the next old Wraithlord model, should have him posted later today or tomorrow... Now I have to get a Falcon to start working on!

Here's the completed old METAL model for the Wraithlord. One pic shows all his weapons - had to adapt one of the shurikens to use on him (did the same for my older two metal ones, whose colors aren't near as accurate for true Ulthwe). Just won 2 Falcons on eBay - one's already painted & magnetized, the other one I get to do (will do paint spatter technique used on the Serpent & Prism) once they get here. Comments anyone? I'd posted a thread about the base size - had been told by someone in gaming group that I should really put the old metal Lords on the larger bases (just like the newer resin Lords), but I got an answer that the base that the model comes with should be the base that is used for it. So, he'll keep his smaller round base! May do a little more contrast on the weapon between his feet, as suggested by a gaming group member...

Falcons arrived a few days ago. The one with the magnetized weapons had a pretty cool paint job (pic below), so I'm not going to strip it & repaint it (will be the ONLY piece I've got in the army that isn't Ulthwe, other than the 2 units of Harlies and 7 Warlocks that need to be stripped/painted). The second Falcon was primed & painted, kept with the Ulthwe colors but decided NOT to do the spatter on this one (unless y'all think it would look better WITH the spatter). Ulthwe Falcon pic's below as well. Now I've just got to find something else to paint - may start working on the Warlocks. After that, I'm gonna either need to start scrounging for more Eldar, paint extra weapons I've got laying around, or paint Marine bits I'd bought to use on bases. At least I've got everything primed. Will be going to my local gaming shop this afternoon to see if I can get in a game with my new trial lists - Shadowseer_Kim had suggested to me that I get a 1K list together and simply play that list against EVERYTHING to see how the units work together. It's essentially a MC list, will probably not be using one of the Falcons (unless I just want to try one of them out). I've realized that I'm probably going to need to get another case for all the minis - have a GW case that's full, and a cardboard box that has all the Walkers & Lords in it, as well as all the skimmers & some of the HQ choices. Hey - if anyone wants to donate any extra Eldar stuff to me (or sell cheap), I'd be MORE than willing to take it off your hands! I need more stuff to paint! Have a great weekend, everybody...

You've changed your paint scheme slightly on the falcons! You had a red vetween the black panels before Now they have gone white. Also, what has happened to the Makhoy trade mark speckles They seemed to be a popular addition to the first few pages of the blog.

I think you may need to physically write a list of what you have and compare it to the codex. It seems like you have one of everything now! I guess that if there is anything missing that should be the next step. If not, then pimping up the bases does sound like it could take the army to the next level. Why use poor marines though lol!

I guess door number three may take you to a diorama next or a large conversion.

OK, taff - I'll do the spatter on the Falcon! I decided to use the bone white instead of the red on the stripes because i wanted to keep more to the traditional Ulthwe colors, but I know it looks more boring this way. I can tell you spot on what I do NOT have any of yet - no Vypers, Storm Guardians, Shrieker jetbikes, Swooping Hawks, no Forge World models (sniffle), and Phoenix Lords: Baharroth, Maugan Ra, and Karandras. Also don't have any Warlocks on jetbikes yet - may try to do conversions for them so that I can have a Seer Council on jetbikes. I was actually dreaming the other night of a possible paint scheme for the Hawks (if I ever get any).

You know, there are quite a number of my models that don't have the bases done yet - will probably start doing that, just need to get more grit. Sorry, only have SM bits - would LOVE to get some bits from other groups as well (GK, Nids, Tau). Hopefully I'll be able to get my camera to get close-ups of the bases as they're completed; it will probably be easier for the models w/ larger bases (e.g., my Walkers & two new Lords)...

Holy crap, how lucky can someone be?
I like most of the things, particularly the WLs, however everything feels so shiny. Do you use gloss varnish, or is it the cameras fault?

Saintspirit, I felt like I'd won the lottery! Was awesome! Until I had the new Lords, I was using a satin-coat varnish; since then I've been using a matte varnish but I think the camera's doing some of the effect. Another reader suggested I get back to doing the spatter technique on my Ulthwe Falcon, so I'll take another pic of it after it's done - hopefully won't look so shiny any more. Will also be taking pics after I get some of the models rebased, will be spraying them with the matte as well...

Well I'll be honest mate. I'm not actually the biggest fan of the splatter white. I think it is slightly out of the standard eldar way as I think it is just too random for them. That being said a "night sky" type theme is not beyond them. Though I suspect it would need to be across more vehicle.

On a note of the red vs the white. I liked the red more personally because, not only was it different, but I have always thought that the red is a more threatening colour when merged with black. That probably makes it less eldar though!

In a nut shell, don't change it for me!

OK, taff - you're my most regular contributor/feedback person, so I'll follow your suggestion & hold off on the spatter FOR NOW. Had to laugh at your eBay comment - so true, though! Am now working on some terrain - started on a sprue fence made to look like a wood post fence, finished it today. Will post pics w/in 24H as soon as I get it varnished & dry. Also did some dead boxwood cuttings to substitute for dead trees - think will work OK. Will probably post 'em all together. Man, sanding down the sprues into half-round logs was a HUGE mess! Finding dust/bits everywhere! LOL

lol, but think of the money you saved! That should keep the sanity hanging in there while you live off plastic dust fo the next few weeks!
