Vik, those images are awesome, although a thunderfire cannon is a bit too much I think (Moreso as I dont have that as an option). I do like the second one but its too big (bigger even than what I use now).

The Rocketlauncher looks awesome though, I am well impressed.

The logo doesnt go on any shoulderpads as I have leonine ones coming in for each shoulder. Only place it might have to go is banners and tanks.

Hah! Another thing learned, thanks Andrew!

Vik...Im not sure what you are asking me....did you just ask me to get naked so we could get an image for the banners or something.... cuz that is sick and wrong!

Ill look into the logo eventually not really a big rush....at all..

hadn´t planned you yet into my greater inter --course try outs...hmmm... well i was mostly refering to offering help in the logo matter... but if your not in a hurry there might be other sorts of inspiration in the time being, one never knows... for instance scibor might make some seperate banner... now there is a thought...

Right, so I painted one of the models that came from the cheap eBay combo acquisition of a Landraider, a Dreadnought and 5 Terminators. I figured it was time to try out the paint scheme, or as close as I could get with the paints I have in my possession at the moment.

Painting is basic, as I haven´t done so in a while and I never was very skilled (as I keep saying so I will drop that now).

Also the lighting might be off due to it being cloudy out and me lacking proper lighting for picture purposes. Listing all this makes me wonder why I even bothered to take the pictures and put them up in the first place. I have to say though that having it sitting here I think it looks pretty good. Not as awesome as some but still I am quite happy with it.

Do note that because this is one of the test models (and was already painted when I got it....and with a terrible paintjob) I had to paint over the existing paint as well as not having the Scibor pieces I ordered. So the actual army models will have a nicer base as well as some additional conversion pieces attached. And no, I didn´t paint the stormbolter yet as I am not sure what color to make it yet.

So far so good right?

nothing to fear mate as you have a clean paintjob as it seems... while i am not able to say what colors you currently used i am guessing...looks like the aforementioned gold for details and a brwon basecoat? if so and you stay that claen then there is nothing to feel humble about... sometimes i have really horrible blotty paintjobs myself and thus i rely on heavy wash afterwards...mostly to cover up why i indeed have yet again not left out that rectangular space you have on the neck of yon termy...also the legs with its many details look very promising!

as for lighting issues... try taking fotos on the window sill, it isn´t the amount of light you get there but the kind of light you get... artificial light from a bulb and other sources has a warm feel for it...thus giving a warmer version to the colors on your minis... our eyes don´t see it that way tho... the cam does, unfortunatly...so when you get the much colder light from the sun and the window you get the colors we all are used too...and the cam takes the more bluecolored /cooler colors up...thus instantly giving you a heck of a better pioc with not much fuz...and natural light is damn cheap too^^

keep up with that cool work of yers, i am off to the teeth botherer, but later on i would like to see some better pics^^

cheers, vik

Colours used are a basecoat of Uniform Grey by the Army Painter. Further colors used are a simple layer of Shining Gold and Commando Khaki, followed by a wash of Devlan Mud.

As it was a test model I went for very simple and didnt bother with any drybrushing, highlighting or any of that fancy stuff. Made it straight and simple.

I thought you were done with the teeth monger?

nah.... on friday for now before the great treck there will be a last visit to him...so this is the commando khaki you were talking about...more brownish ideed... i think it will need some layers before you get the aimed color effect...or you slab a dehneb stone on beforehand and after that go full last layer khaki again... well i suppose not every termy will get their scibor shoulderpads anyway(?) so not only a tester but a fully useable mini...

btw...i insist you go and check my next update...there was a santa at my letterbox...

Actually.....Yes. All the Terminators will get a Scibor Shoulderpad (or two). I do actually have Dheneb Stone as well, so I might just do that, then again I kind of like the look it has now not too clean, but that is most likely the Devlan Mud.

Aaaand...

My items from Scibor arrived as well, they are Dead Sexy. Although the heads are very attached to their casting sprue and the shields are pretty thin so I need to continue with care not to break them. The resin bases look great, they do make me wonder however....are resin bases tough enough on their own to use as a base? Or should I stick the standard round plastic base underneath for added support? I am leaning to err on the side of caution and add the plastic base although this makes them rather tall.

naw wouldn´t do that... the resin iirc is rather thick with bases and would be good support as is...from what i´ve heard resin is quite brittle and you should always use a fresh knife for cutting the resin parts of the sprues... also many producers warn that resin is not healthy to work with in a colsed room... filing should be done outside as the little particles can be dangerous for your health...and...congrats for the scibor pieces...seems the guild of postmen have their be nice to gamers day today^^

and if you still want to follow your designed scheme then i would proceed as i stated...your scheme is much brighter than your actual mini now... and i think this scheme is worth the extra work...

How does the grey bit look though? As that is a part I did absolutely nothing about, that is just basecoat with a wash. Well I could always do another layer on top of the wash in certain areas.

oh i took the stormbolter as pure plastic for now... didn´t think of it as already painted... one thing: drill out all barrels... you will see it carries the look a mile further! if this might cause you some peril, then take a needle, heat it up under a candle and push it inside the bolter where the barrel holes should be...then you can drill some holes in it because now you have a better base to start drilling from... i personally own some micro drills to go for my handheld boringmachine, but for delicate work i use a range of very small screwdrivers i missuse as drills...you know the ones you normally use for screwing glasses and micro systems on your pc...they are shar enough to drill steady holes into the soft plastic...works for me most of the times...

Ah the grey I was referring too I meant the bits on the model itself, but yes the weapon is undeed unpainted. Also this model wont work for my army as it will not allow a headswap (None of the AoBR Termies do) but I have additional fronts to use in order to complete them...all leftover from previous conversions and such work on my Death Guard.

well then i am not currently able to really say something concerning colors as the light forbids it... you have to understand that you see your mini with different eyes, you already know how it looks, the rest of us only sees the pic...your eyes know what they should see and adapt to your "reality", my of course do that to mine...and mine is defined by your pic... which leaves me to guesswork^^

by the way if you are there, then it would be nice to give my thread a bump as i am about to update^^

I mentioned before that I acquired a lot from eBay rather cheaply containing a Land Raider. I have decided I am going to try and save it from being a bum purchase. It´s paintjob is horrible, pieces are missing and it has been assembled incorrectly.

Joy.

So at the moment I am taking it apart carefully and trying to salvage what I can. I ordered in two new Lasgun Sponsons, a new top cover and a new bottom plate. The bottom plate will be cut up in order to close the front ramp which was missing.

The Heavy Bolter at the front needed replacing as well but luckily I had a spare. When working on my Death Guard I ordered a Nurgle Plague Hulk kit from Forge World. This comes with a complete Defiler kit included, I used the gun from that on my Chaos Landraider leaving me a spare.

Lucky Me!

(I did paint up another model of the Pride this time with the Scibor parts and using a slightly diffirent color scheme. Dheneb Stone instead of Commando Khaki).

looking cool, somehow the act of salvaging a badly done tank has a bit from defusing a bomb...you have to tread very careful and every slight of hand can either cause betterment or worse... quite the thrill^^ i salvaged a rhino once and i am still postponing my predetaor to me painted anew which i rebuilt... the rhino was even choas standard rhino and can now pass for loyalists...

looking forward to your new test model done with new paining strategy!

I have never owned a landraider , always wanted one as a kid, now i will probably have to scratch buils a true scale one to be happy.

She's a doer-uppa, but looks like she will make a good recovery given time

neil there are quite some good plans out there for scratch building a LR out there...i do own two sets myself and i could suply a link with a helping how to too...infact i started once with building one but never came across finishing it... it is still burried in a cardboard box as so many other projects of mine^^

I started on a Leman Russ from the old Cadian Battleforce....and then it got shelved. Of course when I found it again I had several sprues but not the actual chassis with the treads on it.....a pain in the ass.

On a somewhat related note...

I just had to assemble one and use my only Cyclone Missile Launcher. I figure this will be my ´Indestructable´ unit, five terminators with Thunderhammers and Stormshields, and as a Heavy Weapon the Cyclone Missile Launcher (because it leaves the hands free). I did change the base color from Commando Khaki to Dheneb Stone which is indeed lighter, this current image does not yet have a wash of Devlan Mud over it (the base does). I have since added it and I do think it looks awesome, only issue I do have is that both the base and the model are similarly colored but that is just a minor thing. I would have added a pic of the washed model as well but the lighting had changed else there could have been a before and after.

And I know. I still cant paint...shush.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
a question springs to my mind...do you prime your models? looks as if not...hmm not sure if this is a good sign... the painting is very clean and looks very good! i like the base and i have had similar problems with base and mini colorschemes...i think yours is chosen for a light imitation of the planet they live and fight on... so it is quite understanding that both look somehow similar... you could however add a drybrush layer to the base of white to add some highlights you wont do to the mini itself.... the base looks a bit like marble stone so if you make not a drybrush on all positions then you instantly get a marble effect of sorts...and then some light devlan mud and badab black and both mini and base look somehow tied in but suitable different... does that work for you?

by the way. shoulder pad and shiled look way cool, not sold on the head but thats just a taste thing...it looks a bit to knobbly for me...

The gray actually is the Prime color. Uniform Grey by the Army Painter. But I agree it could be better if I actually had another color so I could cover it up somewhat if I make mistakes elsewhere.

will the grey stay in your aimed for paintscheme? i think not?
when you aply washes you could alternate between denehb stone done with devaln mud and with badab black... thus creating two different tones of the same color...thus by using tow times the same color nevertheless having a high detailed mini? would that work?

The gray always has been in my aimed paint scheme, but I could wash it diffirently than the Dheneb Stone...what is really sad is that the only wash I have that would come close is Necron Abyss, I dont have any Badab Black at the moment, I do still have a jar of Black Ink.

black ink sounds interresting...i have seen someone in the web to paint only with inks...he used regular pen ink...lots of different colors and this made some really nice minis...but i lost the link...

well i have to go off for now, but later on i will be back...!
