Another UPDATE: Ive got another of his usernames, skimmed from a WoW forum and Guild page. Let me know if you want it. Ill be looking a little closer at this and will post/share any results i find.

The more info I find, the more I think this guy was using his parents' place for his shenanigans. He has an Xbox Live account under the name of <censored> and has also posted on WoW forums about his crappy little level 20 Paladin using the same email address he used for his Paypal. While these may be the hobbies of a 55 year old man, Im more inclined to think that the picture shown on his Facebook account is more accurate. Using mommy and daddy to perpetrate your crimes is bad news. I bet they are so proud...

My paypal dispute is decided today so I will let you guys know if I get my money back.

Really, the same system that a lot of Bartertown users use should be insisted upon by traders here. if you have a lower rating in the Reputable Traders list, you ship first. Period. End of Story. Of course this means that the list needs to be updated much more often. It's up to the traders to watch out for themselves.

Going by this, I'm 90% sure I just saved myself from getting off in the last couple days by sticking to my guns and insisting the other party ship their items before I pay for them. The user has/had two posts total on Dakka, both in his Swap Shop thread. We'll see what they agree to. I'm HIGHLY doubtful it'll go anywhere, as it all smells fishy to me...

To be fair, that's not the Bartertown system. It's a common misconception.
While it is the most common convention on the site, and one that I ascribe to myself, it is not something that we officially support. The only system we officially support is that traders should decide between themselves what the trade terms are, including who ships in what order.

WOO! I got my money back from my papal disbute! So the only thing this guy wasted was my time! I hope terribly things befall him!

I will be getting my money refunded too, so the only ones of us who will truly lose out are those who sent models.

I got my money back to. But he made off with my 10 assault marines.....

I know this is a little bit of thread jumping, but in relief to myself and another user on Dakka who asked my opinion of the 'ripoff' artist. We didn't lose our models or money. Good luck in your attempts friends.

As a general note (since it came up) I also encourage folks to ask others to ship first if they're unsure about the other trader for some reason... however, in that case I usually end up not wanting to commit to a trade at all, and so rarely end up asking the other party to ship first. I.e., someone with very little in the way of posts/reputation/etc... I would likely only do a very small trade, or none at all.

The other thing that offers by far the most protection is using Paypal... the problem is, many of us have more models sitting around than funds but they do all the work for you and, in most cases (especially in ones like this where many people are aggrieved) they make the right decision.

Is anyone still waiting on a refund from Paypal? Unfortunately, it doesn't seem that those who sent models will be able to get them back without taking further action (i.e. contacting the authorities / filing for mail fraud, or the like, which may not be worth the effort depending on the amount of items sent).

I too am involved in this guys shenanigans and will be filing both a mail fraud and a paypal dispute. Mine was for $200 worth of IG stuff ;(

I have a current purchase from him. He told me the same thing with the shipping delay due to the weather. He told me my item was shipped on Monday, and I should receive it Wednesday. I contacted him for a tracking number, but haven't received anything yet. He has been quite responsive via private messages. I am hoping my stuff comes in tomorrow. I will watch this thread and see if you guys have any updates. If I don't see my stuff in a day or so, I guess I can start a refund/dispute process with PayPal.

I did ask to the mods to do so and never got a response. I think it has something to do with the release of personal information.

Also, Donkee...He will make you wait for a looong time before finally he just stops communicating altogether. Id suggest starting your Paypal Claim RIGHT NOW. This fellow is no good and he has already screwed like 10 people.

It is not the place to air conspiracy theories or to cast aspersions on user's moral standings whatever they have/have not done. Any further off-topic comment will be deleted and warnings will be given.

Luna- we are not able to "unedit" messages. Sorry I didn't reply to you about that, Captain_Obvious- I looked into it but once the edit is done the text is gone for good as far as our technical ability to get it, unless there's an external site that saved it.

However, it seems most users have the email address and address of this user- if you don't have it, please PM me and I can give it to you.

Both accounts are being permanently suspended. We generally try to allow an account to stay open for a brief period after a TR is posted, even if the person isn't responding, in case something "real life" is going on and they can't.

However, clearly that isn't the case here. The "Snaffu420" account was created the day this TR was opened. It is entirely possible that items obtained from people ripped off here were being sold off there.

It would be helpful if people who have successfully (or unsuccessfully) traded with Snaffu420 could post here. As always, off-topic posts or posts discussing general policy will need to be deleted to keep this thread free for those involved to coordinate their communications / efforts.
