For the 1600m and farther world class athletes tend to be extremely thin. You don't need big muscles to run fast, you need strong ones. Size after a certain point becomes detrimental.

It's strange though that the world record mile is done at the 100m/14s and the record sprints are only a few seconds faster.

Minimum standards for all branches are a joke. I think the minimum run time is something like 28:00 for 3 miles.

Rubik, its because despite what people in the military tell you, half of the fethers aint even that fit. Beggars cant be choosers after all, and modern kids don't wanna be in the military. gak, I think they even started letting asthmatics in didnt they?

If they aren't in a good regiment, the guys are a joke. I met literally thousands of soldiers during my time, and outside of the top tier regiment, I was very very rarely impressed. Funny thing, when you do meet someone in an ordinary branch who impresses you, they tend to be in the middle of a transfer or something.

Actually the main factor in marathon performance is cardiovascular fitness, after that its just a matter of having enough muscle mass to efficiently move your (preferably light) frame. The basic idea being that the less muscle you have, the easier it is for your cardiovascular system to maintain pace.

Aye. Power, and therefore muscle mass, is only relevant to sprinters.

Not really. Being skinny doesn't mean you're going to be athletic, you might be skinny and athletic but the two aren't interchangeable. I would honestly be surprised if the girl in the OP could run a mile, or do the equivalent in non-bounce-inducing cardio.

I didn't say it automatically equated. I just said that skinny doesn't automatically exclude someone, either.

Melissia wrote:

No, she is not. 5'7" 110lbs is unhealthily underweight. She's not "fit" by any means.

Even a very small framed woman at 5'7" should be at least 125-135 pounds to be healthy. Her weight would make sense if she was five foot nothing, but not at 5'7".

Yeah, she hears fat chicks say that to her all the time. Yet she used to compete at the National level for Volleyball. Currently she does some pretty high-level Yoga, and distance-running, too.

mattyrm wrote:Yeah she cant be that fit like, I just asked my missus her current stats, and she is 5"5 and 116lbs. She has a great figure, but its after she started lifting weights and I made her do pull ups.

She said she was 106lbs 6 months ago and that was underweight, I think she is in good shape now, maybe not as strong as she should be, but she can crack 6 pull ups and run well.

Two inches taller and 110lbs.. thats gotta be a bit too skinny, she cant have any strength to her!

No, he's not much of a power lifter. But she's a pretty good distance-runner.

Speaking of fitness, did you guys know that if you were overweight and all of a suddenly kidnapped, put on a plane, and then thrown off the plane somewhere in the south american jungle, spend at least 24 hours there in a predatory zone, you can easily shed 10 pounds because your body goes into oh $#!^ mode?

Likewise if you exercise daily, and eat casually, but all of a sudden stop exercising for a month, you can gain 15 pounds?
I now weight 213 at 5'9 T'is no good, I be slackin yo.

P.S. I don't know what any of you are talking about, she looks hot, minus the dead face. (but of course, i think my lady looks better ) Oh yeah, there should be a neutral face orkmoticon, I think that would be funny.

That sounds a little high, assuming your were burning 500 calories a day from exercise and then stopped you should only gain about 4lbs of fat in a month. Of course you have to factor in your BMR slowing down in addition to excess carbohydrate consumption when not exercising. Still, 15 in a month is a lot. I am impressed.

Edit: If you can maintain it you'll break 1000 lbs this year.

It probably had to do with me staying home on my chair, two barbecues, and a feast i attended. I have to admit, I have paid no heed to watching how much I eat at all for the past month. Probably 2 months. I was home 90% of that time, working on passing my classes.

You can't really weight yourself right after eating, nor when you haven't ate, you have to do both because how much you ate and how much you weight when you haven't both need to be considered. I would say most of the time it was around the area of 210. Which is still a scary amount.

Well, generally it doesn't matter when you weigh yourself so long as you do it at the same time consistently. Generally I weigh myself every morning, and after every workout.

I'm not to sure how to think about it really. On the one hand, yes it's terrible that these girls feel they have to make these changes to themselves, pressured by a patriarchal society. On the other hand, I think there is so much ugliness in the world that I can't complain about this kind of thing. I've been into Asda (Walmart in the US) at times and felt physically sickened by how fething ugly, fat and just awful looking a good chunk of the population are, and that it would be providing a service to mankind's genepool if the whole place was simultaneously hit by an earthquake and hurricane. At least these people put a few more smiles on faces than they do scorns.

All of those korean girls are REAL!. too bad all of those pop stars (who expected to rule the world soon. unless someone else is up and challenging them) went through plastic surgery!!!!

In Thailand. Those chicks are admired not only by many local boys (especially those who are either fond of asian girl, or a fan of asian pornos). but also local girls!
while the majority of female teenage population has a darker 'bronze' skins. numerous are either descent from Chinese or Vietnamese immigrants usually has a lighter skins (both still classified as Asian). and those of the latter is likely to find the way to make them looks like those popstars! thus making either Beauty clinics franchises (Nitipon and Wuttisak are the two competing beauty franchise!), it is said that those clinics mad e an extensive uses of 'illegal medications'. the 'innovative' medications and medicine practices that's not approved by Ministry of Public Health and its associating bureaus. for example. the FDA (อ.ย.), and Government Pharmacheutical Organization (องค์การเภสัชกรรม: This organization not only regulates medicines, but also a manufacturer among many pharmacheuticals manufacturers here) . Another products that's a big hit here due to the Korean pop cultures being a big hit here is a pair of contact lens called 'The Big Eye'; which is an alternative to those who can't afford a surgery. however. those Big Eyes lens are usually sells at the 'walking streets' markets!!! This phenomenon is very new here! in the past. all contact lens can only be sold in optical clinics. the MOPH never authrizes any non-medical personnels to sell it! but, of course smugglers always find the way to get around the law and have those things sell at the night bazaars, and you can expect the lack of hygiene in those products sold there. the MOPH had ... at some points. issue warnings on a potential danger of such product. the contagion is likely and it could blind a wearer!!!!!
oh! I almost forgot, those lens are either Korean, or Chinese made. that's why it's relatively cheap!

oh! another item i've almost forgot!! those lens are now available on the Internet, and even the FB!!!

^ This girl is actually an asian. the lens make her looks somewhat like half-whites but she's still asian for me. Oh! she's holding a product in question ! the lens are usually contained inside a brown canister.

there's much to say about how fake those girls are. but the reasons 'why' . it is best to guess. and stay tuned.... for the next reply..

Yes right, I was pretty shocked by some of the stuff that goes on in Korea. Even my boss where I was working was miss Plastic Fantastic, I think there wasn't a single part of her body left that was original - looking back on it now, the business was probably a way to pay for that addiction.

Commonplace is to have the corner of the eyes cut so they appear bigger (this is really painful apparently), and you then add coloured contact lenses - of course everyone in Korea has very dark eyes, so blue and green contacts are common. Then eyelids are 'added'. Then the bottom of the chin and cheekbones (which are generally naturally high) are cut to make an oval-shaped face, and a bridge of the nose added. Funnily as well, unlike the West really white skin is seen as beautiful - so women hide from the sun like they are vampires (you will see people walking past on the beach without a single cm of skin visible, it's so funny), and a lot of women have Michael Jackson-esque skin blanching treatments to make them as white as possible.

It's unbelievable how commonplace plastic surgery is there, and also how accepted it is by society. The whole thing is pretty sad really, but young women there have I think a lot more pressure on them to look in a particular way than they do in the west.
