Saw the Dark Knight today, went to have dinner with my mom in celebration of my birthday, only to find out about this tragedy. News sounds like it was one guy and he got away with so many attacks because people thought it was a publicity stunt at first for the movie. It's a sad world we live in. The trilogy really did have tragedy following it, huh? The injuries/deaths from the second one for the actors, now the ones for the fans...my condolences and prayers to all the families who have lost people during this dark day.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

As my father once said, no one is safe anywhere. No matter how good or through your guys are, the sudden appearance of a mad gunman is tough to prepare for with trained experts. Against a crowd of unarmed civvies...

Damn, I hate it when things like this happen. It's so sad. One moment you're sitting in a theatre watching a movie, next moment you're dead. Just like that, and for no reason at all. Scary thing is, it could happen to anyone.
And there's no way of preventing these shootings.... if you ban all guns, they'll just find another way of killing people.

LOOK!! a shameless self-promotion! (gasp!)

The bloke went to a good university and he had a phd or a doctorate in neuroscience or something didn't he?

Either way, making home made bombs isnt rocket science, I bet he is smart enough to make a pretty decent IED anyway!

Trigger for the IED's would give an indicator. Also 6K rounds kinda give you quite a bit of blackpowder.

Americans, trust me you don't want gun control. Look at Australia, it is nearly impossible for a law abiding citizen to get supplied with a gun. I'm lucky because my Uncle owns a farm and I can hunt on it but it took a year to get hold of one.

That's the whole point of gun control. It's hard for people to get guns.

It's almost as though gun control controls the sale of guns in some way...

Hell some people manage to make them with little more than an old moble, a CG125 and two goats. If the talaban can manage to hold up the US and UK armys in the arse end of nowhere a guy in a major US city can sure as hell make something better, phd or no phd. The only thing he will find more difficult is getting hold of explosives. However, he didn't need to try and take on an APC. Unfortunatly causing lots of damage to people is far to easy if you want to.

Also, whilst I don't agree with the gun control policy in the US I don't think it is that which is at fault allot of the time. The US media seems to have a romantic view of the loan wolf killer and the final act of violence against a harsh world. Yes, more gun control would reduce gun deaths, but I don't think it would solve the violence.

This statement is funnier because I've been here a long time and I know rockerbikie.

Do you think most Australians are happy knowing that dakkas resident neo-nazi is tooled up?

Seriously, Ive no axe to grind, I dont think Rocker is going to go on a rampage or anything, and I firmly believe everyone is entitled to their opinion.

But, if you were to ask me which member of the entire OT board I would be less inclined to let hold my machine gun while I popped into Home Depot, it would be him.

While it would be me that would be most likely, right? I mean, I'm never going to go on a murderous rampage killing fifty people before committing suicide by cop, slaying twenty of them before tehy finally take me down. Then my heartbeat monitor notices I'm dead and the whole building blows up.

Nope.

Never going to happen.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

I'm not really a neo-nazi anymore. I'm more of a patriot. I used to think it was cool because I listened to too much NSBM. I'm just a conservative patriot. I have slight concerns towards some ethnicies including my own.

Hey whatever floats your boat.. I suppose being hot tempered and judgemental is a flaw of the young. Admittedly I don't think I used to see shades of grey when I was in my early twenties either.

What is NSBM anyway?

Taliban/Insurgents/AlQueda are using now photorecepter to set off the IED when being disarmed. EOD tech was killed when brushing dirt away from an IED. Also they are going away from using markers alongide the road to using laser lights to set off an IED. A water can with a hole punch it is also used as a trigger but it seems trip wires were being used in apartments which is better for us. Means to me he didn't get creative nor had a clue to making a "haji" trigger.

Yes. NSBM= National Socialist Black Metal, in case you were curious what the actual acronym stands for, matty.

No, it just means the quality of the guns is lower. Some pipe, nails and springs, and you got a gun.

In japan they constantly have people rebuilding non functional repliguns (legal) into functional guns (illegal).

IEDs and mantrapping are both illegal already, but it does not sound like this guy had any problem getting his hands on materials for those, either.

I might further point out that madmen never seem to have a problem getting materials, regardless of their legality. After all, a boyscout once created a nuclear breeder reactor in his back yard (what badge is that, exactly?), and if there is one substance on Earth that the US government likes to keep under tight wraps, it's weapons grade Uranium and Plutonium.

The first court case begins tomorrow (Bangkok time :p ). IF he found guilty. it is said that the fullest extent of the punishment is DEATH.

but how? what should execution methods be done?
a. Lethan injection
b. Electrocution
c. Firing squad
d. Hanging
e. Decapitation
f. Dismemberment by automotive vehicle
And if it is going to be carried out. Do you think that his dead should be made public to warn other would-be criminals?
And should the government deny him any funerals and instead place him in public. so honest citizen would mutilate his corpse further.

Because it is now accepted that he is public enemy.

Actually, a quiet death away from the public view would be better.

Don't want these guys who get off on attention to want to do this more.

It's either electrocution or lethal injection.
The other ways are fairly barbaric... especially that last one.
