The Transcendent C'tan is beatable. Grav weapons, poison, drop pod spam, the tau army, other lords of war all counter the T. C'tan pretty well. It's no more powerful than Eldar or tau are by themselves, the revenent Titan, beast stat or many of the other top builds. The C'tan is a huge points investment, and leaves the player with few other units for board control. However, it is a good threat and success ful counter to units like beast star, thunderwolves, death wing, other LoW etc. the Necrons have something powerful and which makes us very competitve, and it's being banned. It's faction favoritism, a single Wraithknight is half the points of a well built T. C'tan. It can be buffed to a level of survivability with comparable damage output, and can be healed. A T. C'tan can never be buffed with psychic powers and only has Zandrehk to give any additional special ablities. Invisibility alone is more broken than th T. C'tan.

Judging by your avatar and your handle I wonder if you are biased?

The Tranny C'Tan is way, way, way over the top as far as power goes. The thing can kill armies by itself with just the other units standing around cheering him on. How do drop pods kill him?How does poison kill him? How does anything kill him that he can't kill first?Tau? Give me a break. 6D6 strength 8 AP 3 shots will destroy anything and everything at range, and that is just one of his shooting powers.

We will see just how powerful he is next month when a couple of larger GTs allow him, but I predict it will not be pretty.

BS4 (rerollable with guide)
WS4 (rerollable with prescience)
S10

W6
I5
L10
3+/5++(4++ with forewarning, rerollable with fortune, +2 cover save with shrouding)
Invisibility - only snap shots to hit, no template weapons can target, 6's to hit in cc

Can I get a necron unit with all that?

Cry me a river that the transcendent C'tan is to powerful. I want the eldar and tau banned then since for a necron player that's pretty much pick up your models and go home for us too.

We are now seeing Tournaments banning units for being to good. If you don't like it maybe war machine or X-wing is something you would be more interested in playing.

Yes, if you take a Wraithknight, and 2 Farseers, and if you roll the perfect powers, and manage to cast them all you can make a model as tough as the Tranny C'Tan. Here is what you are missing:
#1. The C'Tan is small and can hide.
#2. The C'Tans powers can't be denied.
#3. The Wraithknight is not a Gargantuan creature (Khan insta-kill 2 wraithknights and so did a Khorne herald last Saturday).
#4. This is the big difference...the fire power. The C'Tan will take 2 units off a turn, the Wraithknight is hardly killing anything.

Tell me what the Necrons have to be competitve with when stompas, Revenant Titans, and invisibility is allowed at the event? Necrons have squat to compete with any of that, and even without LoW Necrons have a tough time competing against Tau and Eldar. It's an 1850 event, taking a T. C'tan denies the army a lot of board control, and the amount of poision Dark Eldar can put out will still kill a T. C"tan. It's not an auto kill but it's a good fair fight. Not to mention Grav. Guns and melta weapons that can kill it even easier.

I've ran it a lot and opponents have killed it and it doesn't auto win you games, and that is without Revenant titans and Stompas leveling the playing field. Good players have nothing to fear, people relying on uber cheese like Tau and Eldar can bring fear the T. C'tan because it is a solid counter to their army.

If you aren't killing things with your Wraithknights you obviously don't know what you are doing.

If you are a bad player and need the C'Tan to win there is nothing I can say here to help you.

Necrons are one of the top armies in 7th edition. CCB are way under costed, AV 13 skimmers are incredibly durable, and they will wreck one of the other top armies (wave serpent spam).

I thought that I would take this example of how to kill a C'Tan out. If you shoot the C'Tan with 100 poison shots on average it will do 2.4 wounds to it. So yes, if you had a DE army, and you had no LoS blocking terrain, and you shot at the C'Tan for 6 turns, and nothing in the Necron army shot back, yes you can kill it.

Yes mathhammer your reasons your justifications with everything. Snore.

100 shots at least is what venom spam is putting out there not to mention thunder wolf Calvary and grav. Weapons which kill it even faster. Devestators/long fangs with lascannons are an even cheaper option and will put a lot of hurt on the C'tan.

Now what do Necrons have to combat invisible units? Revenant titans? And again, a Eldar and Tau that aren't even bring LoW. Very little, and playing Cron air is boring, and there are hard counters to that tactic. It's not competitve. The T. C'tan is. And I have loved this model, and the C'tan in general since 3rd edition. Is has nothing to do with not winning without a C'tan it has everything to do with bring the best unit available to my codex, like any good player would have access to in any other army.

I'll downgrade to an Armour 14 slower version of the T. C'tan without an Armour or invulunerable save when Adepticon takes the 30" move, holofields and psychic abilities being able to be cast on the Revenant Titan, or on any other LoW for that matter, away.

I don't want that, all the LoW should be allowed as is.

Seeing as there most likely will be a new Necron Codex released prior AdeptiCon 2015, I am one to wait and see what that brings. Arguing over a book/unit that isn't even going to be legal at the event is sort of pointless.

It's not worth engaging. I'd say he's made his statement of how he thinks the rules should be. And I'm sure Adepticon will take in his feedback like they have all of ours.

Personally I'm looking forward to the Team rules....nudge nudge, wink wink

Sorry for the delay in replying.

I'm the Necromunda (and Flames of War: Recon In Force) tournament organizer. We'll be using the LRB version of the rulebook. While I enjoy the old rulebook (it's actually the game that got me into miniature gaming way back in 196), I use the LRB every year since it's widely available online and is free.

Then why is it being banned for the same reasons? Could the fact that the Stompa was copied as is from Escalation to the Ork codex be the reason?

I don't think anymore can really be said that has not been said already. While free promotion is all great - would you submit any additional input on this particular model to info@adepticon.org?

@Greenie -

We are still sorting out all the Alt format 40K events and how they work with the schedule. But considering we have had a "Gladiator Style" event pretty much every year of AdeptiCon. I imagine it is a safe bet it will be on the final schedule.

Sailing the Sea of Sprues!

What happens when you more than double your event space and have over 120,000 square feet to fill? Well, for starters, you make a lot more terrain, of course!

A wide variety of terrain efforts are already underway this year for AdeptiCon’s ever-expanding range of games and hobby events. For one terrain project in particular, the good folks at Mantic Games have supplied our crew with a massive amount of Deadzone sprues! Exactly how massive, you ask? How about 1,018 individual sprues!

With the sprues now in hand, the hard work of integrating this great terrain into AdeptiCon’s wide range of games falls to the convention’s Terrain Staff. Staring down a thousand sprues can be a bit intimidating. Fortunately, these skilled veterans are no strangers to building amounts of terrain that others would consider insane.

Of course, the question becomes: what do we build with all these sprues? Our staff is busy working on ideas as we speak. However, if you have any terrain piece concepts or ideas that could be realized using the Mantic Deadzone sprues, please let us know. We are constantly looking for new terrain ideas and, who knows, it may make it onto one of our 300+ terrain tables!

We also have enlisted the help and experience of Mel over at The Terrain Tutor to assist with some terrain concepts for unprecedented project. Mel already has extensive firsthand experience with the Deadzone sprues. You can see some of his work over on his YouTube channel. And, as always, stay tuned for more news and info.

The Iron Man used to be the award for the person who did the best in all 3 events combined (Gladiator, Team Tournament & Championships)...which also meant that player was playing some insane amount of games over, what was then, a 3-day period.

Warhammer 40K Classic Draft Rules & Championship Primers

The experimentation and refinement of the AdeptiCon 2015 Warhammer 40K offerings continues! We are currently in the process of reviewing our ever-evolving tournament formats in order to provide an engaging gaming experience no matter what your preferred style might be! Beginning Thursday, and continuing throughout the weekend, attendees will have the option to participate in 400-point games, 3000-point games, squad-level games, single day events, multi-day events, draft tournaments, single-player tournaments, team tournaments, and more!

Below you will find the draft army construction rules for a new event we are calling the Warhammer 40K Classic. The Warhammer 40K Classic is a single source tournament designed to recreate the feel and flavor of Warhammer 40,000 in days gone by. Players will construct their armies using a single Combined Arms Detachment and pit them against their opponent in scenarios reminiscent of the game’s 3rd, 4th, and 5th editions.

The Warhammer 40K Classic will take place on Thursday alongside the Warhammer 40K Championship and Warhammer 40K Exterminatus. As always, we are looking for constructive feedback concerning this format. If you have any questions or comments, please get in touch!

AdeptiCon 2015 Warhammer 40K Classic Rules (Draft)

This weekend “GameTown” in New Berlin, WI hosted the first Warhammer 40K Championship primer! The goal of the event was to put the AdeptiCon 2015 Warhammer 40K Tactical Objectives and some sample Maelstrom missions through their paces. The Warhammer 40K Championship and other events will likely utilize a mixture of Maelstrom and Traditional objective missions, but this event focused exclusively on testing the Maelstrom missions. 16 players slugged it out over three rounds and at the end of the day, Tim Schmidt dealt the killing strike. He claimed victory and a free Weekend Badge to AdeptiCon 2015!

AdeptiCon 2015 Warhammer 40K Championship Primers Missions
(Additional Resources: Draft Rules | Tactical Objective Cards)

Stay tuned for the Warhammer 40K Team Tournament Draft rules, scoring guidelines for all events and more sample missions!
