I have a feeling of where you are going, Cam'. But I'll wait and see if it does end up with the certain film franchise I'm thinking of; don't want to spoil your surprise.
That's looking a bit bathroom-like there, Vik.
Stormwall wrote:... Fallout fans eh?
Considering I sell sculpts of Fallout-inspired pieces, you could say so.
As for the vault entrance; The definition of a trapdoor that I read said that it is a hatch that is flush to the surface of a floor or ceiling. Your vault entrance could be defined as a hatch, so put it on the ground (as seen in the trailer for Fallout 4) and it could be a trapdoor.
Or, have that in a cliff-face and have a "secret" trapdoor on top of the cliff.
Guuuuuyyysss. I was being sarcastic. (Love all the Fallout stuff on these forums. ) So, I am currently trying to come up with some acronyms for my piece and I think I will be pushing myself by trying out winter for the first time.
Edit: Got two now after brainstorming all day, and I am just going to leave them as hints. Northern American Transit, Rail, and Energy also known as NATRAE, and ATLAS Targeting and Defense.

Poorly . Although I said from the beginning that I wanted to participate, not that I would manage something... Still moving stuff from old house and the new little one is imminent... I'll swing by if I manage anything though
Still planned for my next hobby time should I get any.

I may be late to join this one, but I have balls and I have a plan
They are float balls for toilet flushes, I found them in a UK store called Wilko's (used to be called Wilkinson's) for the earth-shattering price of £0.99 each, they seem to be made from acrylic, and I thought what the hell, they'd make awesome gas or fluid containers for an industrial terrain setting. The trap door will be for a ladder to reach a walkway on the top and maybe inspection hatches as well, trapdoors everywhere.
Each ball is 120mm diameter so they are not exactly small, ATM my idea is to make a base with the two balls side-by-side with a connecting block in-between and buttresses to cradle the balls, which will give me some where to add some details. Also the buttresses will serve as supports for a some sort of platform or walkway some 75% up or on the top. I'll have to cover or remove the manufacturers marks and figure a way of making a base that they will sit comfortably and safely on, in this case I'd like my balls to stick.
As far as painting, ground: concrete, Balls: blue, buttresses: Beige, metalwork: rusty.
OMN.

The balls are approximately grapefruit size, each is a sphere of 110mm with a 120mm diameter rim running around them, with a screw on attachment point at the base.
The rim was a bit rough, mold lines, so I've had to clean that up a bit.
Yes only two, I figured I might get funny looks carrying around 3 or 4, plus as it is the base for this little construction is going to be around A4 size.
@ Red harvest: That's a good Idea, I hadn't thought of putting a hatch near the bottom.

So, I have basically nothing done, and won't be able to produce anything of quality in time, if my stuff even arrives before the deadline :(

Great work Cam
I'm considering breaking down and making something out of these project bricks
They're kind of a large scale for construction materials compared to 28mm models, though they *did* make the pyramids and similar out of pretty enormous blocks...
Seems like a decent start to generic dungeon walls, something to get started with before trying the likely harder natural stone I wanted to work with.
Move, plus new baby.. means more time crunch than usual. In the next couple of weeks I hope to fill out my hobby workspace with the furniture, tools, and supplies that are currently packed away.. then I'll try to build something

Good job Cam'.
Get fiddling with your balls, OMN.
Plenty of time to get going, the rest of you.
Grim', hk1x1 sells bricks too (at least I assume that he still sells them). How the price compares (being he's in the UK) I don't know. But worth a gander.

Hmm, it's a thought. I went ahead and picked up a container of project bricks today at the local hobby lobby just because it was close. Gonna track how much I can make with one box and decide if it was worth the 10 bucks.
Should get started soonish, after I finish assembling the mega-desk I should be able to start filtering the hobby goods into the basement.

So I'm looking into using these project bricks to form the basis of the dungeon walls, at least for parts of my dungeon scenery that are dungeons... as opposed to caves. Man made (really big) brick/stone structures that is. Underground of course, or they wouldn't be dungeons.. Bah, rambling. Anyway, I'm trying to decide on 2 or 3 bricks high. The first is a little short, but gives you a bit of that 2.5D view angle/photo opportunity. The other option for 3 bricks is almost guaranteed to fit any regular 28mm type heroes, and even some pretty large monsters, though it does seem like space efficiency is important when building underground what with all of the digging and structural integrity stuff. From the five shots below, what do you guys think? 2 high or 3 high? Also I'll probably just cut things off to make flush door openings , rather than stacking them to the side like that. Trapdoor to come later once I've figured out how I want to build my buildings.

As you say, Grim', 2 high would be good for gaming. Whereas 3 high is better for realism / dioramas.
And it depends on what you plan to do with it.
2 high won't let you add much to the walls, as it's a bit low for wall hangings (be they pictures, tapestries, or people manacled to the walls... "They only hung me the right way up yesterday...").
You could do the inner walls 2 high, and then the perimeter walls 3 high. Or do the corridors (which are narrow to get hands in) 2 high, and the rooms 3 high (to give you space to add decoration).
What are the bricks made out of?

I'm pretty sure good old 'gets melted by more things than you'd think, believe me we've looked into it' styrofoam, with some kind of paint on it. I reckon I'll be airbrushing the pieces as airbrush+terrain=win, so no worries about melting it. Costs 10-15 bucks for 300 of them, gonna put a few pieces together and consider the cost at that point. Easier to game with and less expensive in cost, 2H has it's merits. But I dunno... I like my terrain to look good and so 3H has a strong stance as well. I think they'd be good for people doing the whole 2.5D stuff too, just a single row high to denote your walls. The tapestries/prisoners thing really makes me lean towards 3 high
