Ah, the weekend. Finally some time to post my progress!

Layering is suffering, but it can't be helped. At least you can somewhat point out the direction i'm going to. I realy hope i'll get to field these someday, in the current meta of my club they'd be hopelessly op and i've already lot enough friends bringing my cultists and that pesky Decimator to the table.

 Big H wrote:
Nice terminators mate ! Lots of animation in the poses compared to stock termi’s, good job !

Thanks Bud! To be perfectly honest, i'm not all that happy with their poses. With all the effort i put into making them feel somewhat more mobile than the current terminators, i still feel like most of them have very similar, sluggish air to them - but then again, these are Terminators, i suppose they aren't suppose to prance around the battlefield. Nevertheless, thank you very much for noting the work i put into their poses, it helps quite a bit.

I'm making slow progress on my terminators. I really enjoy painting single models much more than entire units (or batches), but then again, i also really enjoy to look at finished models, so you have to bite the bullet.

My Champion is coming along nicely. Finished up the white sections of his armor so far and i'm pretty happy with the chipping, i'm getting better at it with every model that i finish. Skin is still a pain, though, and the metal looks a bit bland, but that will change, once i start with the blood spray. I also started with the OSL of his combi weapon, i do love the effect of Vallejo's fluo colours!

Champ here is my favorite of the bunch, dig the resuscitated Nurgle axe Also interesting to see the jump between his in progress pics a post earlier and this one, quite a bit came together between those shots.

Will be quite the crew of bloody white-armored superhumans when they're done!

Alright, done with the white and red sections of their armor. Also done are the optics and insignias!

Doing the weathering on pure-white armor is exhausting, but it needs to be done.

I finished the plasma effects on all of the guys, although at this point i'm pretty sure that i will mostly field them with combi bolters.

Next up are bones, leather, cloth and skin. Hopefully i'll be able to finish the squad until next weekend.

I'm actually not all that happy with this unit at this point, and i can't even put my finger on the problem here. I guess they'll look fine enough when they're drenched in blood and gore.

 Boss Salvage wrote:

Exactly!

Still, i need to paint smaller batches. These big, highly detailed units are simply killing my motivation to follow the hobby.

Whew, i can't believe it but they're finally finished!

Champ is still the poster boy of the unit. Really like the feeling of this model and also that i finally got to put that man-reaper to good use.

The Icon of Khorne was fun to build, really glad i played Ogre Kingdoms in another live. On the other hand i truly dislike the old plastic terminator heads. They are more than just a little bit rubbish, even thin coats kill all their fine details.

Guy to the right of this trio is my personal hero, mostly because i managed to put that Kromlech chainaxe on him. Also: The skull kit is just neat.

Finally, it wouldn't be one of my units without the trademark statue head with the big sad eyes. Love them, they never disappoint.

Lord Zhufor looks just like a fun guy to be around. Although he's a bit short, compared to the other blokes in the squad, but what can you do. Still, doing the split bases is something that i'm slowly getting better at and that also gives the model a very real feel to me.

Finally, i've managed to get my hands on a pair of really old, broken and horribly painted rhinos. Broke them up and stripped them down, time to give my Zerkers a couple of METAL BAWKSES!!!

Congrats on finishing the squad! Felt like it may have been a bit of a slog at times. Champy is still the winner but plenty of cool details across all the boys.

Great job, and well done on finishing the squad. All look good, but yeah, Champ is the champ.

Maybe Zhufor is extra angry and berserky just because he's a little shorter than his troops....in the grim darkness of the future short guy syndrome sends you to Khorne.

Look forward to the bawkses!

Thanks guys, always glad to have people speak highly of my stuff.

The boxes are coming along, even though they're in a pretty rough shape.

Had to replace two door hinges, hopefully this won't show once they're primed and painted.

I got my hands on some Vallejo Plastic Putty to fill many of those nasty gaps. It's really great. Also got the legion heraldry and extra armor ready. I got all four kits off ebay, for a suspiciously low price. Well, the quality turned out allright and i'm no purist, anyway.

On a completely different note: These two noggins over here look like they're about the same size - don't they?

Sunday is update-day!

The Rhinos are coming along nicely. I've had time to fix up any gaps that might have been there and while it looks a bit rough right now, it's really pretty good at this stage - good enough to start with the medium details.

Hatches for the basic loadout. I won't glue them to the chassis because...

... i still got two optional bolter turrets are build. One of the with a little extra conversion. Still need to fix a few gaps here and there.

The hatches have been magnetized, just in case i should ever feel like having two World Eaters Predators - as unlikely that might be.

The next big step: Siege shields. I have already magnetized them so that they can be affixed to the top of the prow without having to drill the extra armor. I will have to bring out the green stuff and a load of skulls for these two.

For the exhausts, i've got these coal pans, that i had previously used on my Death Guard Rhinos to some effect. They will be converted so that the flames point to the rear of the vehicle, indicating some fast motion.

As a personal touch, i will nail these chaos shields to the exhausts, giving the rhinos a few more details.

I've also spend some time thinking about giving the rhinos some intricate details, but i think that it's only fitting for my warband if their vehicles are not so much covered in ornaments - these are warriors after all, not the sniveling kin of Lorgar's brood!

Right, time for a mid-weekly update. I had some time on my hands and made some progress!

The Rhinos are almost finished. Still have to add skulls and chains and hooks and all those tiny details, but for now, they're done.

I also came to rework one of the gunners, giving him a less generic pose and a more "world eaterish" pose.

With the Rhinos done to a point where they could be identified as proper Tanks, i moved on towards the last part of this project: The siege shields!

Siege shield #1 was to be adorned with the icon of the Blood God itself (little surprise here, i know).

After drawing a crude figure of the symbol on the surface, i brought in the green stuff. Layering is the most important part of working with this much green stuff, so i made certain to take breaks to give the putty time to cure.

Raw icon finished, still need to work on the details and of course sand it all down.

And that's the first icon (almost) finished. The shield itself is to be covered in the skulls of conquered enemies, of course, but those will come in at a later point.

The second shield was to be adorned by the World Eaters icon, a world being swallowed by a set of jaws.

I made sure to put in a lot of layers here to not ruin the different parts of the icon.

Turns out i'm not that great at sculpting land mass. It will have to do.

And the jaws themselves are done. Still need to fix some details and sand it all down.

That's all for now. Hopefully, i will be able to add tons of skulls very soon.

At least they'll take a bit more effort in this edition to get wasted!

I finally managed to add a few skulls here and there to the siege shields, maybe you can tell.

And since the rhinos are very much finished at this point, it's time to get primed!

I just don't dare to do it right now, since it's like 40° Celsius outside. Tim to play the waiting game.

Thank you guys for the kind words. It's nice to see all that support, even though this army is turning out to be the most time consuming I've ever build on an hour/model rate.

 Elbows wrote:

Your stuff is really neat too, though. I'd agree on the 180° thing, but that just show how far the hobby can go, and it's easy to appreciate both armies for the individual work that went into them!

So, weekly update and all that. I'm finished with the base layers and washes, mostly. Right now i just got started in fixing my mistakes on the white. You can see the difference if you compare rhino #1 to rhino #2.

The siege shields are also coming along. I feel tempted to just drybrush all those skulls very carefully, instead of glazing the bone, as usual. It's simply so much bone!

Finally, i've been to DizzCon yesterday. I haven't really met any new players since i've moved to my new town a few months ago, so i decided it was time to meet new people and made some friends. That worked out pretty well, i would say, even though my poor Eaters of Worlds still did pretty poorly and got tabled by the cowardly xenos. I managed to lose 7 out of 9 Berzerkers to overwatch from a Wraithlord in a single charge, so my rolls might have had something to do with that as well. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Still, i don't mind losing. I had a blast of a time, even though the weather is trying its best to kill us slowly.

Time for the weekly update. To be perfectly honest, i've been mostly busy building our new home instead of building little plastic men, but then again, at least some progress was made:

I've finished the upper layers, iconography, optics and flames. Also did a quick sponging, which always gives the model a somewhat finished look.

The big icon came out great, it actually looks a lot better than expected. Next up are metals and technicals!

To be true, it came out a lot better than expected.

So, the dark gods have blessed me with a great work that has kept me busy for many moons. Sadly, it's been boring-but-tedious crappily paid administrative duty, so i have little to show for it.

Nevertheless, i have managed to finish Rhino #1 so far. There are a few mistakes here and there to fix, but aside from that, i can go on towards blood splatter and pigments, once the chipping effect on Rhino #2 is done.

Doing vehicles by brush is just exhausting. I'm looking forward towards painting a small, simple model next to give me a quick reward after the long hiatus.

Almost three months have passed, but the rhinos are finally here. All recovered, worn down, built up, bloodied and dusty. I'm pretty satisfied!

Named "Thunderbolt" by its crew, the vehicle has show a special liking to rapid attacks, at one point even outpacing the lightning-swift eldar themselves.

This rhino has often been the last sight of the cowardly servants of the corpse-emperor, well deserving the name "Sudden Death".

Now, it's time to move on towards (hopefully) less time-consuming pastures.

Time for some new stuff!

After the rhinos i felt like doing something more mobile and energetic. Also, since my army really doesn't stand a chance against vehicles, i decided to go for some helbrutes. Sadly, i really, really do not like the bio-organic look of the new model. Don't get me wrong, it's cool and all, but it certainly doesn't fit my old-school-ish vision of my warband. So, sadly, the only way left to go were the old Ferrum Infernus dreadnoughts, who have been OOP for a while now. Either that or converting loyalist dreads into chaotic dreads. So, i decided to keep my eyes open and managed to acquire three of the old dreads, just please don't ask me how. :(

Anyway, here they are!

In the first step of converting them i added a couple of Caedere Remissi to the upper part of their chest cavity. I really didn't like the idea of adding the bladed horns to the helmets of the dreadnoughts themselves because it would've meant to somehow open up the sacrophagus and destroy much of the traditional look of the dreadnought. I also decided to add some variation to their helmets, swapping one out for a newer model (Leviathan, i think) and scraping some details off the two others so to give them a deeper sense of identity.

And of course we would not want our bloodthirsty servants of Khorne to just stand about - so i will try to give them a very fast moving, almost sprinting look.

This meant cutting and pinning a couple of joints on their feet, knees and ankles. I added a few new cables for the ones that had to be cut and also scraped off some further details that will later be replaced with greenstuff.

See you soon!

My girlfriends been away and thus i have made some good progress over the last few days!

The remodeling of their legs and lower joints is mostly finish. Nothing too complicated here, just green stuff to reform the gaps that my previous cutting had left.

I'm pretty happy with their poses so far. I've spend hours thinking about and researching a Golden Deamon-Entry that i had seen years ago of a khornate Dreadnought. In the end i managed to find this beauty.

This was build and painted by Vincent Hudon back in 2003 and it really stayed in my mind as one of the most impressive conversions i've ever seen. The way he reposed the dreadnought to give him this impressive, charging look. I obviously cannot aim to even replicate the delicate paintjob, since i want to be finished with the three 'bots in this decade, but the attention to anatomic detail that was put on display here is simply something very inspiring to me.

Now i've almost finished the torsi. Obviously i will not be able to add smoke launchers because the current entry for helbrutes doesn't have that option any more. It's a shame, since my shooty opponents will be delighted to tear these boys apart before they can get into proper charging distance. I've also decided against giving them flamers, mostly so that i can cram in a few more cultists here and there. But taking the bolters is usually always a good choice, given the helbrutes tendency to shoot things close by and their low cost. I mean, 4 points, that's just a single cultist!

As you might have been able to tell on the picture above, i also managed to fix the gaps that raising their arms to a less static pose had created. I cut down some of Dragonforge's cables and put them over a rough core of GS.

On their right arm i put a neodym magnet in the center of the socket so that i will have some tactical options (perhaps for lascannons, who knows) at a later time. It's always nice to have options!

So, i'm really satisfied with the production speed that i've managed to maintain over the last days. If i can keep this up, i will be able to put some paint on them by the end of the weekend. Yay!!

Still working on angry dreads.

At first i was determined to let the third of the bunch keep his original stance, but after a few tries i just couldn't figure out how to place him on the base that i'm going for properly, so he had to go under the knife!

Redoing the shafts wasn't half as bad as i originally thought. I simply pinned them without gluing them straight away and put the pins into some small plastic tubing.

As you might be able to tell, there are still some minor gaps here and there. I'm going for a slightly more static and heroic pose for this one.

I've taken the scenery base from the HH kit of Khârne, i felt it was a little too pretty to just let it go to waste. Also, if scraped off / cut off most of the details on his legs, to give him a more individual look. You can already see one of my rough outline on the other leg of the new detail that i'm going for.

Here's another one of the Khârne-base. Really like that maimed, free-flying marine there. I think he's going to be a Dark Angel. Their armor is a nice contrast to the color scheme of my army.

Another base for one of the charging dreads - i'll add some debris and rubble on the wire mesh.

And finally, a small detail. I've bought bunch of new, tiny chains for the more delicate work, like this skull here.

If all things work out, i'll get to finish the conversion progress today. I'll keep you posted.
