Summer is gone, Autumn has arrived, the temperatures have plummeted below 90 degrees (32 Euro degrees) and Reaper Con is over.

So...

More stuff!

One interesting new thing is gaming books for some of the settings referred to in their models, Brinewind and Barrowgate. The models for both lines have been cool and the books are pretty affordable, might be worth throwing one or two in an order.

On the model side the War of the Casting Mediums continues with more 3D printed models coming out. A half-orc rogue, elf bard and barbarian with the truly epic name of Kreed Bloodbeard. I am shocked GW hasn't already used that name for a Space Wolf character.

And a Tiki Shark to go with your wereshark pirate army, proceeds going to victims of the Maui wildfires.

The Morbid looks suspiciously like the Gith-something-or-anothers from the old Fiend Folio who were of course arch enemies of the Gith-something-or-something-elses from the same book.

Sophie, Reaper's soul-sucking spokesdemoness gets 2 new avatars, a Demoness Druid (wait, wouldn't she have to be True Neutral to be a Druid?) who would work pretty well as a normal Druid if you leave the wings off.

And a Librarian. The Librarian goes right on my want list, because she's an awesome model. Not because of any fetish or anything. How dare you imply that.

Two more big dragons slip out, one is described as Foul, the other as Wicked, I think we will have no trouble telling which is which.

And finally there's a memorial miniature for Ed Pugh, Reaper's CEO who passed last year cast in the power of the one, true casting medium, raw, molten METAL

The fact that the memorial miniature is a Necromancer raising the dead makes me wonder if someone didn't think about this enough, or thought about it way, way too much.

Anyway that's this month (and a bit of last month) done. A cool demon librarian, a very decent demon druid, an addition to the Wereshark army and some other cool bits.

As a reminder each October Reaper has some cool models and freebys for Halloween, so that's something to look forward to.

(Still no Storm Giant though )

My understanding is that Mr. Pugh sculpted most or all of the original skeleton miniatures Reaper produced, so it's a reference his work.

Right book, wrong monster; they're Meazels. The hair style and the garrote confirm it

The anti-Githyanki are Githzerai BTW.

Just when you thought it was safe...

$30 for a 300mm fire demon (~12 inches in America) so that's about a dollar a centimeter which ain't half bad.

And another $30 for a Wyvern. The site says this is also 300mm which seems right but now that I think about it makes me wonder if the fire demon height is correct. Is that guy really a foot tall?

Skeletons

And more skeletons

And a skeleton halfling who wins the week! I love that he has a meat cleaver, I can just seem him hacking up adventurers for a stew but then it all just falls out of his little rib cage!

Poor lil guy.

I like the concept of Bones USA, but aren't they essentially just re-releasing the same models with higher prices?

Some are rereleases, I'm sure I can find at least one model available in metal, white bones and Bones USA, but there are plenty of new ones like the demon and dragons above.

Traditional bones is a garbage material though, and bones USA figures are much closer to actual metal/resin casts in terms of crispness/detail. You may as well be comparing a gummy bear to an actual mini.

I have a few of the original bones minis. I cannot bring myself to finish painting them. They are in no way comparable to the Bones USA and Bones Black minis.

I curse you -- 'tis the season, eh?-- for making me scroll through the Fiend Folio, the one AD&D book that never fails to disappoint. And the artwork is so bad. No matter, the Meazel. White Dwarf magazine was interesting for many things, but its fiend folio section was not one of them.

The tribute mini is well done. I wonder if Reaper will do something with it for Halloween orders.

Depends which version of the bones material you are thinking of. The early released used a much softer material than the more recent ones and the level of crispness of the detail has improved as well.

So I've been buying Reaper stuff for a long time and reviewing/previewing it almost as long. I can't say they never disappoint, because well there's only so much you can do with Dude with sword/Orc with sword/Wereshark with sword, but more often than not they come up with stuff that's truly unique.

Like this month.

The freeby is Kadarg Scarneck who despite the very cool name is well, a Hobgoblin with a sword. An odd choice for October considering how much cool undead and horror stuff Reaper makes.

Fortunately you also get their 'Ghoulie Bag'

The 2023 Ghoulie Bag contains a Bones USA "Gertie Gristlebreath" miniature, one bottle of Dungeon Slime paint, one bottle of Nightmare Black paint, and some Halloween candy! Hurry, supplies are limited!

Which is better than a sharp poke in the eye.

The miniature releases have some truly funky stuff, apparently the theme this month is drunkeness, which I guess does fit Oktoberfest!

Halfling Druid with his hare companion, no idea if he is drunk but he could be a bit tipsy. He does have a drinking horn on his belt.

Brewmaster

Drunken half orc who could also pass as a drunken half hobgoblin

Bouncer

Brawl

Puppet show

Drunken riverboat captain but who cares, he has a monkey companion who is also drinking!

Gamblers

And a flirty wench!

Interesting how many of these are mini dioramas with several figures. The brawl with its halflings and orc I think is the best of them, but the puppeteer is the one most likely to follow me home.

All in all a good month for interesting and unique models. Surprised there was no undead or horror (outside that bog witch or whatever in the ghoulie bag) but there's still time.

When everyone else are doing Orktober, Reaper dodges left and does Oktoberfest!

Drunken Orc could also be a interesting casualty marker for a fantasy game.

I can't tell what is going on.

Either way, what a unique miniature!

But I'm sure Puppet Master Lassard won't let that influence his performance.

Fun theme this month.

I'm not sure this is a brawl. I think this is a hunting scene. I'm fairly certain that those hobbits intend to eat that orc. Note the hobbit helping himself to some orc tartare. The famished foursome.

Remember, hobbits are like pigs. They will eat anything.

Some of those paint jobs are very muddy and indistinct-- black primer is the culprit I'd bet, or the photos are terribly lit. Not the best showcasing of the minis.

Whoa! Two more snuck out!

Halfling Barbarian and Fighter, which I'm sure satisfies the needs of like 3 D&D players in the world.

Remember that time Dragon magazine had rules for the Halfling Guardian, basically the Halfling equivalent of the Paladin? No?

That's because no one wants to place a Halfling fighter.

The Halfling cleric and Bard however... Yeah I can see the appeal. The cleric should get an extra spell slot just for 'Create food and water'.

I don't know about D&D but Pathfinder has a titan mauler class that's defined by relative creature size, I believe. I was very tempted to make such a halfling character.

I'll have to keep an eye out for that halfling barbarian. The butter knife is a little puny and needs some beefing up, but the rest is spot on.

Not much info, but announced on their FB page:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/40821538884/posts/10161563902053885/

Free beta and adventurers available on the Reaper website. See the dropdown menu on the Reaper site.

While free adventures are always good (: the "old school" rules don't stand out to me from other "old school" D&D rules already out there, such as Dungeon Crawl Classis, Swords and Sorcery, etc.

Of course, if your RPG group is up for trying out DD, sure, why not.

NotifyGrout's Goobertown Hobbies DIY Contrast mix:
* 1 drop matte medium
* 1 drop flow-aid water mixture (1:20)
* 1 drop acrylic ink

My own:
* White-primed miniature lightly pre-inked in a dark shade.
* 1 drop acrylic ink in a small pot of paint (eg. children's craft paint). Do not mix.
* Dip the brush in the ink. As you paint, you can dip into the paint to make the layer more opaque.

I strongly disagree. It should be 'Destroy food and water' as a racial spell or ability. Perhaps even at will.

That said, I do feel an urge to get some of those so I think there's an order in the future. Everyone needs a puppeteer.

Well the calendar has changed, the pumpkins have rotted and a new chill in the air marks the approach of Thanksgiving.

And while I personally believe in observing the Black Friday Accords - the Christmas season does not begin until the day after Thanksgiving! - others are jumping the gun.

Reaper among them.

I don't have much to say about Christmas Eve, Christmas Knight and Christmas Carol, they're darn good figures and if you want them this is the time.

They and about a dozen more Holiday models are available here:

https://www.reapermini.com/search/holiday2023

In other news Reaper is doing a D&D remix style game Dungeon Dwellers via Kickstarter.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/reaperddrpg/reaper-miniatures-dungeon-dwellers-roleplaying-game?ref=user_menu

As for this month's freeby, remember in Curse of the Azure Bonds when Alias the smexy redheaded warrior maiden teamed up with Dragonbait the Lizard Man Paladin? Did you ever wonder like, what if Dragonbait had a really hot lizard woman paladin sister?

Nah. Me neither.

A couple of box sets snuck out too.

Mossbeard the Treeman, not to be confused with Treebeard the Mossman or Mosstree the Beardman.

Julie Guthrie is really stretching her wings, sculpting a dragon victimized by the unhealthy body images in the media. Seriously, someone give that dragon a sandwich or something!

A killer ape, who can also serve as a carnivorous ape, or even a pacifist ape who's not usually like this but had a really bad day.

Reapers Spokessuccubus Sophie gets a new incarnation as Troll Slayer Sophie, just the think to go with Ogre Slayer Sophie and Giant Slayer Sophie.

While I am half convinced that the Astral Reavers are actually an early April Fools joke along the lines of the old Invisible Frodo model from years back.

And there we go, I didn't notice anything new among the Christmas models but they are very nice. Not too interested in another D&D clone, but if you are there you go. The rest of the lot is good, but nothing is an autobuy like the puppeteer or a new dwarf wereshark, but I'm sure all them will have fans.

I do like how they look like the classic Fiend Folio art.

they also have a bit of the old Invisible Stalker and Aerial Servant vibe from the Monster Manual.
