Same here about the IP, but regarding concepts- Mantic has often had amazing concepts, but that doesn't mean the final cast will be amazing.

Renders are better, of course, but the point still stands...

They've barely used concepts this time around. I can't think of anything that was shown as a concept that hasn't since been shown as a render, which oddly...

As for the pillar, again, matches the art.

Which helps make my point. It is great for a display piece or diorama, not so good as a game piece. As a '3D card' it is really cool. But the art on those cards was never intended to be the types of poses that make good game pieces.

It's more that I was on the fence, waiting to see Novas Vira and the Tiger Company merc renders. I don't like this one, so that's 1/5 I can't use in that squad. The less-than-stellar choices they have made in other poses (ie: pretty much every running pose sucks) gives me no confidence. Then there is the fact that everything that I really wanted is non-exclusive and will be available from The Warstore when it is released, and after I can see the quality.

Straw that broke the camel's back sort of situation.

Also, I am a little annoyed about not seeing the Deadzone production pics. That's a whole other topic though.

The comments section in a backwards-travelling KS is often far more annoying than the total going backwards. It generally brings out a ton of "do this really specific thing or I'll drop my pledge" talk once people get the idea that the demands might be entertained out of desperation.

Those aren't resin masters in the photographys, they've the prints.

@ Taarnak - rumoour has it that they've been flown over, so I'd expect a pic this week. james ha been on dakka, they know that's what people are waiting for. having received my teratons, i'm looking forwards to be pleasantly surprised.

I consider a 3d printed model and a render to be largely similar, though- neither shows anything about casting.

That said I am in love with this bug and it may well get me . It would likely, though, need to have at minimum all the legs, antennae, and maybe the claws as separate pieces to be done well... if that is the case and it has a bit of posability to it, I'd be completely sold, but the render can't really show any of that (at least a render like this where it is shown as a single solid model, not broken up into the parts it would need to be cast in).

But again that bug is the most awesome thing I've seen in this campaign yet

Hmm when I see I bug I must squish it! I had a placeholder pledge to see if they could draw me in, but ive gone down to $1 to get Blaine and that guy in yellow scifi armour. I also have no intrest in the ip, though I'm loving the Martians!

Add me onto the list of people who really dislike it when they add scenery onto miniatures. It was one of the main things that put me off Deadzone.

I had a quick look at the Mars Attack kickstarter comments and it seems that for everyone person who is saying they will leave because of the wall in the sculpt there is a person saying they will leave if they remove the wall from the sculpt.

Either way, you probably shouldn't leave a KS over a single mini. Not to be a snide about it or anything, its just that... well, its one mini out of a lot of minis. If i quit every game that I didn't like one miniature out of, I wouldn't be able to play anything besides Monopoly. Actually, I don't like the iron, so I guess that would be out too.

This just clarified in the comments by mantic for the detailed orientated amongst you...

RE Bug in $300.

The $300, if you choose not to get the apoc deal, gets the bug from the $150. Apoc will add 2 more, making 3 total.

... for those that don't give a crap about the credit and want the one-click, you get 3 bugs at $300.

And leaving over a single model is dumbassery at its finest. Doesn't sound like that is the case though. The straw that broke the camels back for fence sitters...sure. Makes sense. One little thing can be the thing that makes the deciding factor, such as in this case. Being in, loving the campaign and seeing one model you hate and pulling out? Well...that would be too stupid for words. Glad that didn't happen here-or I'd probably get BANED for the sheer torturing I'd do to people here over something that stupid.

They need to do things that way, all the time, going forward. As much as possible (catching up with renders/painted versions etc, a lot of this stuff wasn't done enough to put in a graphic like that at first). I saw that image and bam I was sold. I mean, I already was, but I thin i'm just going to take the 1-click, and add a couple of goodies like the DB team, faction decks and such.

I'm fine with the kneeling/leaning novas vira guy. I'm gonna be moving to clear bases for my minis, but I'll get over the post for how cool of a pose he's got. I could really see that guy getting converted into a guardsman marbo, its a sweet pose.

Wait what, they have more renders of the novas vira behind the leaning guy? Looks like two female militia one with gun up one down. I assume there will be more poses but they aren't done yet?

What I would really like to see are some better shots of the painted saucers and trucks, next to other models from the game for scale if at all possible. And some close ups of these new novas vira renders too! ooh ooh and the apparently finished and painted urban accessories. It looks like its basically 4 barricades one of which is a door, I could throw a few dollars at that, but I'd really like to see them lined up if possible.

I'd like to throw it out as a wonder if those Wargames Factory Survivors and zombies would hold up to the scale of the game?

There's a lot of very nice stuff in here if you have even a slight interest in the IP.

I'm most impressed by the robot, hard plastic kit about as tall as a tau riptide for a third of the price.

If Mantic takes that and does exactly the same kind of thing for Warpath, they'll have a lot of success.

3d sculpts are really good too, and those are needed for the hard plastic tooling process.

So, even if you're not interested in Mars Attacks itself a lot of the work that's going into it is going to be great practice for them to get other stuff that you will be interested in done right.

I originally had my pledge doubled, but cut it in half today because Shadows of Brimstone just looked too cool to pass up. I figured I could get plenty with an $140 early bird

The invaders arrive package is not bad at all. I'm at BotB and i'm 90% sure that I'll get enough of everything to not regret not spending more. I want plenty of mars attacks stuff, and a couple of the things to use as crossover for other things (terrain, trucks, bugs maybe), but I'll get that covered easily at that level. I was thinking of doing a Martian army with 3+ of everything to use as a general counts as army for various 40k xenos races, and as martians for warpath... but... I think I'm done buying armies for awhile. My current warpath stuff will probably blossom out into a couple three armies by the time the warpath kickstarter shows up, just from getting vehicles for what I've already got.

I'm in the "The Giant Invertebrates are awesome" camp. Too bad there isn't two different models (maybe there will be but doubt it)

I have to say - Mars Attacks is getting kinda tempting. And I'm making a spiffy profit selling my Kings of War pledge off. So I feel pretty good risk-wise if I decide between now and then that I don't want it.

I generally agree, but I think people's opinions are formed on what happened with the KOW KS. There Mantic were flying by the seat of their pants and had no idea of how successful it would be. As a result a lot of the "concept art" was barely a scribble on a napkin five minutes before announcing a goal. There was no real thought or planning with those concepts it was just an idea of what the models may look like, and barely any of them did in the end.

Forward to Dreadball and most of the concepts really followed through in the final design. Then onto Deadzone and an awful lot remains to be seen especially with the likes of the Forgefathers and Asterians, but most are pretty much bang on, such as in the faction boosters. The only one that is different is Dr Simmonds, and that seems to have been an effort to make her more plaguey.

Onto Mars Attacks and it Mantic really seem to want to match concept/renders to final design for the product. The one thing I am dubious about is the "bendy-ish" plastic being used for the infantry.

The bendy-ish plastic is a bit of a put off, but I'm already wavering; I could get this (which I have no actual use for beyond the scenery) in about a year, or I could get Dreadball + some teams right now.

Nope, hard plastic is the accepted name for plastic sprues, polystyrene, GW plastic across pretty much all companies.

And yeah, ebay potential is generally great, quite easy to make a good profit on stuff that isn't due for release for another few months, there are people who have pretty much paid for their core $225 pledge purchases just by ebaying the freebies. Others (like me) have traded the freebies for other stuff to add to the army.

Mars Attacks will probably end up as a "wish I got in on that" Kickstarter in the long run since Topps is relaunching the IP in a major way, haven't seen the results of that just yet though since the cards are barely out.
