I like it. New Avengers is Marvel's "main title" for lack of a better term. It's where everything happens but you could argue that's a bad thing too because of all the mega events. I don't think New X-Men is around anymore...

I agree that Carnage is pure 90s. In fact, Carnage is probably "distilled 90s." But I love the character. He's so fething creepy. He's scarier than Venom because he has absolutely zero anti-hero potential. That said, I'm still waiting for an event, miniseries, etc., that can serve as an entry point into the spider-books.

I'm a proud owner of the 3-part original appearence of Carnage. (I think it's ASM #360-363). That's one of my favorite Spidey stories. It's also a complete story because Carnage dies in the end. Obviously he came back somehow and now we're getting diminishing returns with him.

You didn't think his tenure at the FF was a good jumping on point?

I knew it too - that was the best 2099 title, or maybe that was actually DOOM 2099?!?

I'm with you on that one, though I did really enjoy Spider-Man 2099 too.

The others in the series... not so much!

Yeah, it's not so much which is best as it is which is even good.

I am headed to the local comic store tomorrow to browse and chat.

Besides Batman #13 this month, did any of you notice Harley Quinn appearing in anything else outside of Arkham Unhinged and Suicide Squad?

Just finished Annihilation: Conquest. It certainly was epic. Guardians of the Galaxy is next chronologically I believe and more Nova.

Seems a strong possibility that the "new" spider-man will in fact be Miguel blankhisname, who used to be ( ?) the Spider-man of 2099.

What? How is that even possible?

Aliens.

Seems a odd call tbh, although I never really got into the 2099 stuff.

I am still enjoying my (two years behind?) UK based Spidey catch up comic. We're almost at the end of the Spider Island story arc, and I am tempted to pic up Scarlett Spider now I know its Kaine, I like him as a character.

Okay, so I have a theory regarding Batman #13 and the "Death of the Family" storyline, specifically about the Joker. I don't go on comic forums much, so this is all mine. If I'm right, the kudos can come right here. If I'm wildly wrong, the tomatoes get thrown right here.

Spoiler:

Observations:

1) We never see the Joker's face. We expect to see some kind of scarred monstrosity, but his face is hidden in every panel.
2) The first person the Joker goes after is Jim Gordon, or at least the people around Jim. He also seems to know some personal info (habit of hiding cigs hidden under the bed) that even the Joker shouldn't know about.
3) Both Batman and Harley indicate there's something different about the Joker, both with his actions and personality.

Thoughts:

1) Snyder may be saving a scarry face for a big reveal. But what if the Joker isn't a scarry mess at all but something different? Could he have already had surgery to look like someone else? Or is he not scarred at all?
2) Things seem to point to someone close to Gordon...closer than the Joker.
3) This could be another Joker reinvention attributed to his "supersanity" as Grant Morrison theorized. But what if the difference is because he's someone else?

Crazy theory:

This isn't the Joker at all but another person who is either trying to frame the Joker or has developed multiple personality disorder, one of which is "the Joker."

Wild guess:

It's James Gordon, Jr. JGJ is a murderer and psychopath, obviously knows the Gordon family and its history well, and has tried to frame the Joker for his actions before in a story written by Snyder. The obvious question is whether Snyder would go there again so soon after the Black Mirror storyline. It's also possible that JGJ is a red herring of sorts.

You do see the stapled on Joker face in Batman #13... Though at the same time, it's good theory...

"Arrow" tonight is fantastic.

Spoilers ahead, so doing the patented Kanspoilerblock. How you guys doing? I hope everyone's doing great!

Spoiler:

Tonight saw "Deathstroke the Terminator" introduced! And explored a bit more about the crazy Asian chap on the island. Turns out, he was a Chinese General who was left for dead on the island. Very interesting dynamic developing between Diggle and Oliver now as well. Less of a "Hero/Sidekick" and more like proper partners.

Been doing well, looking at the latest Previews, wondering if there was anything I want, and looking forward to March when I can get the second half of the Court of Owls.

Can someone who's read the first 11 issues of Batman tell me if issue #7 of Batman was a special issue, and not related to the Court of Owls? I'm only asking because the first hardcover book I have only goes from issues 1 to 6, and then the second book only covers issues 8 to 11 or so.

Nah, it was about the Court. My guess is that it will come bound with the Night of the Owls cross-over collection. Batman 7 is probably the prologue to issue 8 of the other Bat-titles, which all had Owls-related stories that month.

No, what I am saying is that you should look for an upcoming paperback collection of issue 8 of the Bat-titles, possibly leading with Batman 7.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Actually nevermind, for most titles it was issue 9.

And indeed, Batman 7 will not be in that collection:

Amazon lists that volume as collecting the annual -- DC says otherwise.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
They have different page counts listed, too, but they don't differ enough to account for the annual.

The book you listed is the "Night of Owls" hard cover, I'm looking for the second half of the Batman Court of Owls storyline, which is apparently The City of Owls.

I have the Annual already (I believe) as well as issues 11 and 12... So I have everything just after the CoO arc finishes up.

My (incorrect) theory was that Batman 7 may be in a Night of the Owls collection. What I noted was that amazon lists "Batman Vol. 2" as collecting the annual when DC says it's only Batman 8-12.

>_< My bad Manchu...

Looking at DC's website, I do need Batman #7, I'm not sure why it's not collected in Vol1 or 2...

It's especially weird considering the cover amazon shows for the Night of the Owls HC was the cover for Batman 7 ...

Yeah, I'm curious as to their decision for that as well... I wonder if contacting DC about it will be worthwhile...

I guess one other possibility is that Batman 7 might be collected into the second TBP volume of Nightwing (not yet solicited).
