I have no illusions that it is in any way competitive.... but for beer & pretzels games, it's pretty and should be fun to run. That's really all I ask out of my hobby.

The tank is definitely growing on me, and matches with the centurions well. I miss their back banners, so I hope you put them back on
I have one question, regarding this prior comment:
Gitsplitta wrote:Actually, I'm not sure I'm going to add yellow Gir... thanks for asking.
I'm thinking that this might be a very nice debut vehicle for my Mantis Warriors Penitent... where a shade of purple is the secondary color (see my centurion done a while back). I have some ideas for either a decent sized purple section, or very little of the secondary color. All of my other MW vehicles have very little of the secondary color... but I may use this opportunity to draw a clear distinction between my Badab era and modern era motor pools.
I think the purple on the center of the tank, on the back, and the main gun, is quite nice. But the large "U-shaped" panels on the side just seem like Too much purple to me. The bits of yellow on your other tanks blend in so well, whereas with this much purple, it jars me a bit! Like I said, definitely growing on me, and maybe I just need to see more things with the purple for it to "make sense" in my head... but I wonder if having a bit less purple on that side "U" panel would help, personally.
Is this just me? I do love purple, the Ravens are my NFL team but just wanted to provide some feedback on the "overall look", as obviously the individual panels are well done, it just seems a bit hard to pick which / how much should be purple.

It's a very good observation RiTides. I struggled with where to put the purple A LOT in-between the time when I painted the green and when I finally approached the purple. There is a LOT of purple on the tank... but I didn't like any of the other options as I think that jarring contrast between the purple and green is to some degree the attraction of it for me. But is it a purple tank, or a green one?
I may, after Adepticon... look at toning the purple down a bit... probably with the addition of painted on detail rather than re-painting the purple.

I'm not in a position to really give advice yet but, perhaps a decal to break the purple up on those side panels? Something like the half eagles the whirlwinds had but, in yellow. (Just an example. I am sure you could do much better than that.)
You do a great yellow and not only would it pop against the purple but maybe it would ease the eye along from the green to purple segments since yellow is such a major part of your existing force?

Oh, I had not considered that, but adding some insignia / detailing / etc on the purple panels might be perfect! It would help my mind see why that panel is purple, because it's the one where the detailing is. My impression of tanks is that it's somewhat common to have an area painted a different color if you're going to add some sort of markings there. I like that idea a lot

It (and the cent's) certainly seems to be from a different arm/wing/company/other appendage of the Mantis Warriors to the rest of your army.
Maybe represent that when you come to add the markings...
and, shh no-one's listening, Gits' is the green slightly different on the new tank? It doesn't look as yellow a green, in the (nice ) army shot.
Nice work on the whole anyway.

Been a while since I've checked in, but its great to see more gorgeous green and purple.
You went in a WAY different direction with the purple than I imagined. I thought you were going to paint the inner armor panels purple, rather than that giant slab. Can't say it isnt really striking, though. Looking forward to seeing it in person!
That list looks like its gonna be painful... but a good, fair painful.

OK guys... forgive me for not mentioning this before.\
There are two distinct eras in mantis warrior history represented in these models. The traditional green and yellow are for my Badab era army. The green and purple are for my Mantis Warriors Penitent.... the reconstituted chapter after they returned from their 100 year crusade (penance for the Badab Rebellion). I specifically changed the color pattern, the mark of armor and will be changing the mark of the vehicles as well. In typical ecclesiastical heraldry, purple is the color of repentance, which is why I changed the secondary color to purple. The yellow was changed to an actual metallic gold and is now a tertiary color. The chapter has also taken on an Asian (Japanese) feel as it's new home world (granted by the Inquisition) is inhabited by primarily Asian cultures.
So yes... there will be two completely different mantis warrior armies when I'm done... separated by 100 years and a crusade.

Cool stuff Gits. I like the mix of really old terminators and librarian with the brand new sicaran and centurions. It's a great mix of models. I think the sternguard would be a great addition though. You know the tranquility vets are my favorite part, next to the tranquility dreadnought.

I am a huge fan of the post Crusade army. Having a post or mid crusade Executioners army is like 4th or 5th on my future hobby list.
As far as what RiTides says, apparently he is a Ravens fan, so therefore is to be shunned or ignored at best. 'Ere we go Steelers! 'Ere we go!
Sticking your logo on that panel will work gangbusters, especially with the metallic gold.
Gonna miss seeing you guys this year. I'm going to be up to my neck in people watching Insurgent, so have extra fun for me.

You should set up time capsules. Every 10 years, they open a box and have to paint it. Some years a tac squad, others a rhino. The lucky ones get to do a HQ.

Finally getting excited about Adepticon as the reality of it sinks in (life is so different when you don't HAVE to prepare for a major tournament). Was up late last night drawing up ork lists and packing figures away. I was very satisfied with the job I did army building. 5 different point builds of two different armies and I took up less that 2 "standard" (720?) battlefoam cases. Even brought extra stuff for Ramos and my son & have extra room. While I was at it I tweaked my 2k marine list. I just really wanted to have the sternguard represented in there somewhere as they are one of the historical units for the MW. Here's what I came up with... Done from memory so it might not be perfect... Normal marine CAD: HQ: Azhara Redth HQ: terminator librarian - storm shield EL: 5 tac terminators - CML, in land raider EL: 5 sternguard + srg w/ PF & combi melta, in drop pod w/ ML thingie TP: 5 marines - flamer in rhino TP: 5 marines - flamer in rhino FA: LS Tempest FA: LS Tempest HV: Sicaran Venator HV: TFC HV: 2 grav cents w/ bolters, 1 sgt w/ las canons & MLs At lower point values there is an aegis wall and the rhinos become las/ plas razorbacks. So elite, but still pretty flexible. Should be pretty & fun if not competitive. Hey! That's means it'll be "pretty fun"! I can deal with that.

Yeah, the hotel cost is outrageous. Luckily we live within about 2.5 hrs drive, so we don't have airplane expenses (though Il tolls are nearly as bad). I'd love a Badab War battle! Don't see too many appropriate chapters out there so its always a treat to get to play one.

This is my last day at work before heading out to Adepticon. You can probably guess how much use I'm going to be. Am really excited about the trip. I just want to play games until I drop. I'll also be bringing a camera, a video camera and my wife's lap top. Might try my hand a creating some videos and uploading them to you tube. Might do some battle reports as well (though probably not with a video recorder as I have no idea what I'm doing with one. I'll do my best to provide some occasional updates at the least. Something to do in the wee hours after Thing 1 has gone to bed. Any special requests? Something people want to see that I can take photos of or report on?

Just don’t forget to take still pictures in addition to video. Not all of us are up with the whole new fangled “moving picture” thing (it’s just a fad) and prefer to browse the old fashioned way.
Plus it’s a well established fact that taking pictures steals part of your soul. How many frames per second do the soul-eaters work at? More in HD.
Have fun and good luck out there!

Thanks Nev. I'll wager that MOST of it will be still pics, but this seemed like a good opportunity to experiment with the video camera and do some "shorts". Perhaps of some of the more elaborate model displays or fantastic armies... things that are best viewed from more than one angle to be appreciated or that have a sound element.

I like the purple on the penitent models, it is a good addition to your green. If you think it's too bright, you can tone it down using well placed weathering.

Well, 40k is a very large component... but Warhammer Fantasy & Warmachine play a large role. There are many other (non-GW) games represented... more each year. Just a matter of someone taking the initiative to organize a tournament of some sort. Also LOTS and LOTS of classes and game demos everywhere... not to mention a decent sized merchant area. It is largely tabletop gaming focused though.
