Actually, that was Thing 1. Thing 2 is turning 12 today so if you want to leave a birthday message on his Tyranid blog (see my sig), please do so... he'll be delighted!

And yes... we will both be there & would be happy to help out. Thing 2 isn't quite there yet (as far as coming to Adepticon with large segments of time on his own), but the day will come soon when he will join us as well.

Will do!

And I hadn't dared hope you lads would be available again for 2016, but that would be amazing . Will message you closer to it, and this time around I'll have actual swag to give out for helping at the booth, rather than the promise of future swag

I gotta tell ya RiTides... the objective marker set is so amazingly helpful. Such a simple thing that makes an entire section of the rules (that a lot of people skip because it's just one more thing to remember) so easy to execute. It's probably one of the cleanest examples of really well thought out, cleverly applied practical engineering that I've ever seen.

And I'm not just saying that because I was a booth babe either...

So, I'm cleaning up my contemptor today and come to the realization that all I have are two power fists for it. (must have been the way it was originally packaged by FW) Now, in this day of grav-mania... a dread that can't shoot is a complete waste of points as it's likely to get immobilized before it can assault. Not sure what I'm going to do. It's an awfully long wait to get something from FW to here.

Would this be cheating? Several on ebay with magnetized arms:

http://m.ebay.com/itm/40K-Space-Marine-Relic-Contemptor-Mortis-Dreadnought-with-magnetized-arm-options-/161833002171?nav=SEARCH

Alternatively, if you were to just buy the arms from FW (didn't see many arms on ebay, which ones were you thinking?) I think they should arrive pretty quickly right?

You know, if you roll back and fourth across those pictures on e-bay, it looks like he's dancing!

Not sure the bits can be bought from FW, but if they can it'd still take a couple of weeks to get here from the UK. Will have to think about what configuration I want.... hmmmm.

Do they make a contermptor ironclads? Although you’d need the fancy drop pod then (or a counts-as). I don’t do FW rules, but I think there is still a place for CC dreads.

You could magnetize the arms you have for now, get it all painted up, and then order some new arms with shooty bits. When they show up, just magnetize them and swap as needed. I don’t know if you want to pay FW shipping for just one arm.

I have a few weapon selections for the 3 Contemptors I have ( plus a Dreado). I can always replace them if you need something right away! Let me look tonight and give you the available choices.

I think I found a missile launcher rack to go on the top of the dread. It's not the "correct" version for the dread, but it'll work. That's probably good enough. At least that way if it gets immobilized it'll have some way to contribute to the battle. I must admit to being fond of the idea of the comtemptor krumpin' forward with two fists...

Yeah I love the look of them with two fists! They can just go in a regular drop pod (of which you've painted several) if you wanted to try that tactic too, right?

Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking. I've got an Iron Clad and a regular dread too... but fun to have multiple pods-o-dreads raining down on the tabletop.

could you paint the dread with a "Predator" style camoflage scheme happening. THat could represent the old invulnerable save as it decloacks right before it attacks. Either that or scavenge some vehicle parts to make a makeshift shield it uses to block incoming rounds as it lumbers forward to bludgeon the enemy to death. Or you could always just make a magnet on weapon mount for the arms or over the shoulder and keep the fists.

Thank you everyone for your helpful suggestions and ideas. I now have a very clear idea of exactly what I'm going to do. I'm NOT going to tell you though... want it to be a surprise. Actually it'll be a surprise to all of us as I won't be doing my usual assemble, then paint... will have to paint this one in sections and then assemble.

I will show my progress throughout. Don't want to actually give you enough hints to guess as that would take all the fun out of it. Suffice for now to say that it will not be a traditional MW design (though I will put insignia on it), it is something I think about doing in some fashion or another every year at this time but haven't ever thought I had an idea good enough to execute, it's something that could not be done with any other type or configuration of a dreadnought... oh... and it should be funny.

@Theo: Great idea about the shoulder mounted weapon. I'll make sure to give it that option in the future.

Actually, looking back at how long it took to cover the last 7 pages, it's almost exactly 3 months. So I think Gits has time to do this thing justice (not that it absolutely has to be finished by the 500 mark, of course! But it looks like shooting to have it done by the end of the year would be before that).

Unless of course your work on it attracts a wave of interest, when I went back 7 pages one whole page of comments was from a single day

Began the build process last night. It immediately took a turn that I wasn't expecting... kind of an all-or-nothing decision that was either going to turn out great or completely destroy the model. I'll let you guys decide which is it when I post a pic. Build will take a bit as I'm using green stuff as the primary adhesive for the major parts as once they're together they need to stay so. Will also do some pinning once I get to the limbs. I'll post a pic or so once I get all of the sections built. Then again after the build is complete (decided I can probably paint it assembled).

We have a Japanese student staying with us for a week so I don't know how much time I'll have to do anything. I know I'll spend tonight waiting at the airport. Keep your fingers crossed.

I must admit to being very enthusiastic about this project, though I am a bit concerned that my painting won't be up to the task. Not that this requires a particularly difficult paint job, but my recent efforts really don't stand up to my past work. Not quite sure what's going on there. Have I gotten lazy, lost my touch, or perhaps just a bit overwhelmed by all the crap I've purchased and not painted. Ah well, I'll hope for the best.
