Ladies and gentlemen...... I give you.... a serious contended for the title!!! Some seriously awesome painting going on there! Really great from start to finish!

Well thank ye kindly. I like the door, I'm not 100% it works but it's very Wars/Trek (even more Wars, I think).

Oh, don't approach it with that attitude. I've got nowhere with stuff I've been delighted with, and done far better with something that I was less than pleased with. It all comes out in the wash. Hubble, eh? like that.
MagosBiff90 wrote:Ladies and gentlemen...... I give you.... a serious contended for the title!!! Some seriously awesome painting going on there! Really great from start to finish!
You are very kind indeed mate. Your pile of stuff is excellent and ultra-real, I love it. But thank you, truly (ps - will try to post stuff out Weds).
Solar_lion wrote:WOW !.. way to make this all come together . looks so cool. now you need a some good photos with a star background.
Cheers bud. I do indeed! I tried to get some pics but really not happy with them, wiped them all in a fit of pique. Instead, decided to work on this bad boy, for your viewing pleasure:
Nice to do some wet blending as I've not really had a chance to do much of that on the base. There's no drybrushing or inking/washing on this yet.
Whoosh!
Landing thrusters...
And ready for unloading.
As a smuggler's skiff, or a small escort vessel, I'm delighted with this. I think I'll have it as a counts-as Hwk-290 rather than Y-wing - too big really for a Y, whereas dimensions are very close to the Hwk - but still, very pleased with it indeed.
On a side note (or rather back round), should I perhaps put the asteroid base in an asteroid field - background here, not making more asteroids? Would that not make more sense?
Anyway, I must thank you all for your continuing support. All of this has been done against a background of considerable discomfort and as a sort of self-imposed forced return to P&M because I'm sick of moping. I can see many flaws in the work but I'm pleased with where I'm heading back too.
Cheers y'all,

actually i like the asteroid field idea the bases i know on asteroids where always in a cluster... so that makes perfect sense...
as for the HKW will you be adding a bit of white or is the greenish yellow hue intended?... i bet the later...i think the ship looks great as is... especially the cockpit... there you did artful

Cheers bud. The colour is as planned - Hwk scheme in game is brown, but it's a smuggler ship, and those are often in muted tones (Scum ships like the SCK, the hound's tooth) as are many cargo, mercenary and merchant ships in trek verse. I also thought the greenish tones were a nice contrast to the base.
Automatically Appended Next Post: In fact I might call it a SKF very happy with the cockpit, I had considered a high gloss paint (which is what the official slave 1 etc get) but I like the "light" effect glad you do too!

Well it's not finished yet and, skiff Actually the D-9 light freighter has never been shown but is supposed to be comparable to the Hwk. Also, it amuses me cos it would work for anyone (mercenaries) AND I'm statting this thing with Ds9's stats from trek wing so that fits beautifully

Hey folks,
First up, a wee batrep for you. My mate who's relocated down south is back up for a week to sort out junk so we decided to have a massive trek battle - borg cube and mirror universe vs Fed & ds9 vs romulan and cardassian (the last being me).
Whilst we had a good time, I wouldn't say the game was fun. Wizkids power creep and ham fisted attempts to create balance make gw look reasonable. 2 Squadrons of cardassian fighters should not be able to take down the biggest ship in the game in one turn without breaking a sweat. So yeah, reminded why I don't play that game anymore.
Still, X-Wing!
Spoiler:
So here are my entry pics.
The 2 identical components:
Other components include an ice-cream tub, a plastic wine glass, sprue, playdoh, papier-mache made from political pamplets and assorted election newspapers, bottle tops, bits of lego, a deadzone sprue, back to front gw missile launchers and assorted junk.
And what's life without a spot of fluff?
Kalend Thora eased back on the jump engines and pulled the Starknife out of hyperdrive. She looked down, as if her red eyes could see through the deck plates into the tiny packets of glitterstim that were stowed beneath. She couldn’t help but smile. Why risk bulk cargo when something so tiny had such a huge payoff? Even after her Vigo had taken his cut, she’d have more than enough to keep her old D-9 running like a rabid wamp-rat in heat and more to spare.
As the Folly lazed into view, she couldn’t help but marvel at the brutal elegance of the facility. You can keep your gas mines, your spacer stations and dust ports – give me solid rock any day. And this was exactly the kind of… independent operation that kept her pockets fat and her record clean.
2 hours. 2 hours at station keeping. I have a bad feeling about this. “Central, what’s your status?” she broadcast for what must have been at least the twelfth time. R3-2A chirruped at least as impatiently. “Yeah, I know Arty, let’s take a look around.”
The station’s turrets lazily tracked her. Well, at least we know something’s working in there. No escape pods launched, no sign of damage. A beep, a whistle. “Yeah, the lights are on, just not sure who’s home little fella.” She was starting to get twitchy.
Landing lights were on from the cargo bay on the surface – drop ship maybe? That’s not the Empire’s style.
Hutts, perhaps, wanting a piece of the action? That’d be a bloody mess - the Black Sun was happy for Erith to run his place his way, but they wouldn’t want another operation muscling in on the action. Mind you, a mess this far out on the Rim might bring them to Tarkin’s attention, and no-one wanted that. Clean and quiet – a coup then? An inside job. She grimaced, a sour expression on her lipless green countenance.
The ship lazed its way round the station; her R3 unit let out what could only have been a chuckle. “I know, I don’t know why the insist on making exhaust ports so accessible either. Serve them right if someone stuck a proton bomb up it.”
Generators are still running fine. Feels like a trap. “Arty, little buddy, I think we’re just gonna have to chalk this one up to bad timing. Looks like they don’t want us to come a-knocking. We can make Seler in 18 hours.” She moved to bank the ship away, getting an angry series of clicks for her trouble. “Yes, I know you were looking forward to that oil bath. Wouldn’t mind a bath myself, still trying to get half of Kessel out from my fingernails, never mind that the scrubbers are so shot the whole ship tastes of spice.” Silence. “Fine, be like that you big baby.” She punch the co-ordinates into the drive computer, almost too annoyed to ignore the nagging in the back of her head. Almost.
The comms burst into life, startling Kalend and making her reach instinctively to eject her precious load. “Thora you old lizard – that you out there circling my station like a hungry gundark?” Erith’s tones. Jokey, but forced. She could hear – not wariness, exactly, but something different. Still, keep smiling, keep talking – and keep running those numbers. “It’s me you two-cred son of a Jawa. Why the hold up? Been scrimping on the power convertors again?” A low hum from R3 let her know that one flick and they would be the other side of the light barrier. “Let’s just say I’ve decided to put this place to good use. Seems to be there’s a lot to be said for getting shot of the Empire and its cronies – better for business, y’know?”So he’s gone over to the Rebellion, has he? This time, the smile in her voice was genuine, “Well then, if it’s good for business, you’d better let me in then, hadn’t you?” And in response, the bay doors opened, welcomingly. Now that’s information that will fetch a hefty price. R3 peeped a question, and she flicked off her open comms to reply. “You bet we’re going in there, Arty. Things just got interesting.”
And of course, they're no use unless you can use them in game:
Spoiler:
Hope you like! Apologies for shoddy phone pics, it's the only thing that I'm really bummed about.

Completely understand mate, love you stuff too. Cards were fun to do: the base is just DS9's stats and ability redone for X-Wing, the D-9 just a Y-Wing (better fit, it in the end) with a pilot that happens to stack well with the R3 unit (which is my favourite astromech in the game).

(Those cards are brilliant - sort of thing I would do. AsVik said though - not got the foggiest what they mean though )
Cheers Navigating the cards, for the uninitiated:
The base always acts last (the orange 0), has 5 weapons (2 turrets, 3 torpedo launchers) with 360 arc (the red in an arrowed circle), can't evade (green), has 8 hull (yellow, can withstand a lot punishment even when it's lost shields) and 8 shields (blue, can shrug of most things). Normally when you fire ordinance they discard - this doesn't (same as Ds9). It can be used by the Scum and Villany faction as well as rebels. It can focus (better chance of hitting) or target lock (can fire torpedoes and missiles). It can have one secondary turret weapon, 2 different kinds of missile, 2 different kinds of torpedo, and 2 additional crew members. Oh, and it costs about the same as a large ship (Falcon, Slave 1 etc) or indeed as DS9 - it could just as easily be used as a non-aligned facility (a la Empok Nor) in Trek wing.
Kalend is a super-good pilot - skill 8, on a scale of 1-10 - and Y-wings are tough but not ultra-maneuverable. She's a crack shot when it comes to getting out of tight spots - hence the reroll ability - and can also pack an astromech. This particular version is "Horton Salm", Grey Leader, just translated to this. If there's time I'll make a Scum version of her (there are, for example, both Imperial and Scum version of Boba Fett) as Scum also get Y-wings, and a Title: Starknife card which will work the same was a Y-Wing only title.

It's a great game, but a money pit. The card creator that I used also lets you generate dials etc which is good if you're making stuff yourself
Miss Dee wrote:I would of given it more than 8 hull
I would've too, but 8 is the same as DS9, as well as the giant ships (the rebel transport, Tantive IV and the imperial Crusader) - only the Decimator, which is designed to ram other ships, has more. Also, 8 shields make it extremely difficult to take out.
