I vote yes too. I don't paint nids and don't plan on doing so at any point in the future, but I definetely see this being very useful to someone who does!

What you've uploaded on facebook looks amazing.

Oh man, everyones saying go p3! Maybe I will, MAYBE I WILL. I tried the "Undercoat black" from gw today and it covered great but was suspiciously shiny. Actually really shiny. I'm glad it was just some bordering or I would have been really angry if it had dried that shiny on a model.

I still have a huge ( really ridiculous) amount of vallejo left and, but I will try out P3 for restocks and see what it's like. When this many people say it's great, I tend to believe it!

Heres what I painted in work today, tiles for Planetary Empires. I only had my ancient and hilariously senile iphone to take shots so they are awful, but I will get better ones tomorrow. Cheers Weety <3

Little guys have crazy detail, they need a highlight layer and then their little flags and buildings to be painted tomorrow.

Oh yeah did I mention I painted over 40 of them?

Everything hurts :(

The same basic idea, aye.

You can just desturate the image and set it to multiply then paint on a white layer below it, there's no real need to do all the selection parts, it's just handy to learn how to do those as they make changing backgrounds etc reaaaaaly easy.

Wow, well a 10 minute paint job translated into nearly an hour of video, between having to paint in a position I wasn't used to causing very shaky hands and being super nervous, I had to go crazy slow!

Now to edit it and try and make it presentable D:

VID TIME

Make sure to go to Youtube, enable annotations, and set them to HD

This was very hard, but I think I got the camera at a nice angle so you can see what I am doing well, without me losing too much focus or hitting the camera. I had to paint slow though because my hands were cramping and shaking from painting in a whole new position, but I am sure I will get used to that

Awesome brush skills If.
I struggle to do as neat thin lines with a far smaller brush...

I noticed you didn't do much with the highlights on the inside of the gun under the head. Is that intentional, as it doesn't show / is in shadow?

Well that was 16 minutes well worth watching. You have got some killer brush skills going on.

Was the carapace basecoat black or dark green? It looked black in the vid but videos can be deceptive sometimes.

Aha yes, but it's all about the tip not the brush size . A size 0 Kolinski with a perfect tip can do highlights on guardsmens pupils. The difference a really high quality brush makes is near impossible to really get across, if you have ever switched from a normal toothbrush to a good electric one, you will ge the idea!

Dr H wrote:I noticed you didn't do much with the highlights on the inside of the gun under the head. Is that intentional, as it doesn't show / is in shadow?

Ah nah I just wouldn't be arsed with these guys, they are the "tabletop" standard models for this small battleforce so they don't get every bit done perfectly, I would just paint the underside black and leave it.

When I do the Carnifex though.. well.. the stripes are going to be impressive.

The carapace was just Abaddon black and rather sloppily applied, the green wash will even it out perfectly as it is so dark anyway

Enjoyed those. Its funny, because I do my Ork skin in a not too dissimilar way, the colors at least, my Orks dont have stripes lol

I see, I did notice that you did all the work with the tip and that you would go back and touch up lines to make them all uniform...multiple layers of thin paint...see I am learning

There is something to be said for the hand holding the brush as well. You could say it's not the size that counts, but what you do with it...

a ha, I see. Look forward to seeing the Carnifex.

And I liked the "Grr" moment at the end of the vid too.

Keep it up.

Pfft, guardsman? Too easy.

Here have the smallest mini I've ever painted with tricolour eyes done with this brush.

BEST BRUSH EU

I have to say though, watching the video back is so straaaaaange. When I'm painting I put all my focus on very small parts of a mini, so I never really see my hands, or how I move brushes.
I was watching the vids and finding myself thinking " I had no idea I did that, what. Am I steadying my painting hand on the finger of my other hand without resting on the desk??? WHEN DID THAT EVEN START HAPPENING?" It is bloody weird, my hands have developed these strange automatic reactions to moving models I had no idea I even did because I never actually pay attention to my hands D:

Was freaky because I didn't recognise anything they were doing.

Thats a squig though. They have big bulbous pupils that are good for painting. Not like the ever annoying guardsmen with their little eyes that are not bulbous in anyway but are surrounded by a nose and helmet that is all but certain to get paint on it.

Squigs eyes are like cheating. Almost. Kinda. Well not really.Ttheir eyes are still tiny and that squig is pretty damn small to boot. So i guess its eyes are even smaller still and the fact the you have painted his gums and picked out its individual teeth just makes me insanely jealous of your skill as a painter. How have you not won every Golden Deamon ever? There is absoloutely no way you wouldn't trounce everyone. *takes a breath*

Man that squigs eyes are the opposite of bulbous, they were... soublub, they were black holes of infinite shading horror, I hated that squig so much I just my god I wanted to kill him i hated him faksjdsaljasdasd squigs.

Haha I'm not even close to GD standard yet, but I am pushing as hard as I can, I would love to eventually enter one. Even a freaking participant pin would be framed on my wall 4 eva.

I don't think so at all, those both have really interesting use of colour and depth of contrast that I really don't think I can come close to yet :(

I think I will be able to eventually, but I'm not there yet at all.

The first one is not a very good shot, but you can see the depth of colour in just the armor, it's fantastic.

The second one is miiiles out of my league right now, the fur is lower quality than the rest but oh mannnn look at how perfectly distinguished each armor plate is, gorgeous black lining and really subtle highlights, that's fantastic. And the skin.. jesus.

I also seriously need to practice with basing and get to the point where I can do display pieces before I can even think of competing!

I totally appreciate the vote of confidence dude, I really really do I just don't feel I'm good enough to be competing with those kind of figs yet.

Ok yeah i see what your saying about the first one. It is a bad photo.

And i really see what you mean with the second one. That skin tone is hard not to be envious of. And you know i didn't even notice how good the armour actually was until you pointed out the black lining and the super duper sutble highlights. I suppose its things like that that really do make a GD entry stand out above the rest. Still i'd take points off for his crappy basing. He spent all the time and effort working on the model and cant take an extra 10 minutes to roll up some greenstuff and fill in those creases? SLACK! Bzzzt sorry mate times up you lose. No slayer sword for you.

And i agree with Dr H. If you ain't GD good yet it won't take long before you are.

Interesting that you note how your hands lock together when painting - I was noticing this the other day and I think its something they should mention in painting guides more - A steady hand is essential - I hold the mini with one hand and then kinda anchor my brush hand against the other so that they are all one unit - even if my hands move they move together so the brush is always relatively steady against the mini. Important stuff yet we do it without thinking.

You wear gloves while painting? I will watch the vid - maybe it explains.

Good vid. I must get me some varnish.

So I'm guessing either you bite your nails or you just don't like getting covered in paint. Personally I love to go to work lathered in multi-coloured hues just so no one forgets I'm an artiste as well as a pitiful slave to capitalism.

What you really need is a camera that straps to your forehead. Or a camera hat. So its always pointed at what you're looking at.

Yeah it is really strange, I definitly wasn't thought it either, I guess our hands just automatically start doing it to steady themselves eventually instead of hunching over with our hands braced on the table. You are right, it should totally be brought up more, it makes a huge difference.

I wear gloves sometimes yeah, I usually wear one on my painting hand if I'm going to be painting a while cause it keeps my brush nice and clean and I pamper that brush waaaaay too much and I wear one on my other hand if I will be touching the models a lot to keep oil off them.

I wore them in this vid so it would be less distracting on the camera (white on white), and I really should have black based the nid too but forgot :( Also, I was all nervous while setting it up and did have a finger nibble which I am really annoyed about. I used to bite my nails back to the quick till my early twenties and still find it happens every now and then when I'm stressed ><

IT BE FIERCE CHILLY IN IRELAND THIS MORNING.

Getting colder and colder, ice building up till midday so properly into bad Irish wintertime now. Sadly this means I too am freaking cold, especially my hands! I've been picking away at painting and should have some updates soon, once the central heating comes on at 3 I can warm up and defrot my poor mits! For now it is wooly-jumper-while-indoors o clock.
