Yes, that's 30 Rough Riders and 30 Bullgryns.

Yes, that's about 2000 points in front of you.

Oddly enough, I do enjoy it. Very soothing. Happy little horses.

Give them all armoured war horns. Then you will have a brony force

^this.

Although I have seen the models I still don't know what i'm looking at...

However briancj, your "bullgryns" are by far the best I’ve seen

I'd love to hear how that army fairs with a few battle reports

Bullgryns are armoured alternate-kit ogryns with big clubs and riot shields.... that's all I know,

I don't have the current guard codex so I have no idea what they are like in game terms.

The heavy cavalry is a cool alternative look imo.

Bullgryns are Ogryn with shields and short ranged frag grenade launchers. Utterly over-costd, this is a totally silly army. I expect it to be as effective as throwing poop against a tsunami.

The heavy horse on circular bases are counts as-ing I think. The other kind of new space ogre might make sense as they have Str7 attacks which might represent lances well?

So, yeah. I hate the Ogryn/Bullgryn Models.

Sherman, set the WAYBAC machine...

In 2nd edition, Rough Riders were a viable army. You could even mount characters on horses! So, an all-horse army is something I've wanted to do for a while.

However, ever since 5th edition, you can't do that. (In 3rd and 4th, if you attached a Commissar to a rough rider squad, he got a free horse.)

Since "Heavy Cavalry" isn't designed to move quickly, I decided that Bullgryns would be a very good replacement. The round bases make it very clear that the units are not "Cavalry".

The rectangular bases are standard Roughriders.

All 60 riders are Praetorians, a mix of Col. Graven's "Curious Constructs" and Victoria Lamb's work. About 65% Graven, 35% Lamb. Save for my original Commissar on horseback (which had the glory of single-handedly shooting down a Dark Eldar Raider in a GW Grand Tournament).

The handful of infantry will all be veterans with shotguns, and the two Commissars, which will be Graven/Lamb minis, and a smattering of OG GW Praetorians (the command squad) plus some bits from the OOP collection. Amusingly, I will not be using actual Commissar models.

Subbing in heavy cavalry for the Bullgryns is a clever idea. It's a cool looking force...

You can still do rough rider army by using the Death Korps Death Rider Formation from the Vraks book - which actually makes rough riders pretty good, giving them 2 Wounds, FnP and WS4. The formation is just Death Rider Squadrons with options for a Death Rider HQ including a mounted Commissar.

Might not be useful for your tournament coming up, unless they accept FW stuff, but maybe useful in friendly games.

Thanks, Ian!

I'm not sure if I'll ever actually take this to a tournament, but if they allow FW I'll use the vraks. There's some disadvantages to the Kreig Riders, including an increase in points. But, hey! Bullgryns are a stupid amount of points, already!

ALL codices? Or just the ones relevant to you? I recently got all the 2nd Ed core rules and the 3 books I'm interested in complete to the present day, it's nice to look back on how things have evolved....

No can do, compadre. The heavy horse are on the same bases Ogryns/Bullgryns use.

Second edition 40k was great.

I mainly played Eldar back then, I remember fielding an army of Dark Reapers once, fun times .

Once I allied in a Wolf Guard squad with five guys all with heavy weapons and cyclones for 500 points, bargain. That was the first time I had seen my mate rage quit
