Subject: PDH - Odds and Ends - Inq28 (Female - Guardsman - or should that be Guardess?)
Yggdrasil - it is stressful going other ones. Using the Wych legs are giving them some really odd proportions. I'm sure it will be worth it in the end.
Ghostflame - cheers dude. The Elysian guns are really nice. Shame you cant buy the gun arms separately.
monkeytroll - You really shouldn't tell the Dakka that you're Neil's gimp. Ha Ha
Neil - don't worry about it mate. I didn't realise that infantry squads can only have 1 special weapon.
Oh and as for Monkey let him out of his cage more often...I like it when he joins in.

This has taken a lot more time than I envisioned but I am happy with her. I have been messing with my white balance settings on the camera and she is now a little blue but it was much better than the yellow! Her robe started out in a pastel blue, that really didn't work with the gold, and I did three different free hand patterns on the bottom before being happy with this one. I painted the gold armour using the Desert Eagle technique and I really enjoyed it....looks much better irl not being blown up so... like in the photos.

I'm GMing a long running campaign at the moment; I love the inclusion of villains in the game! It makes a lot more sense for the inquisitors to do something other than just fight amongst themselves. And your Slaaneshi cultist is possibly the best INQ28 villain I have ever seen.
Why must I always choose beween certain death and probable death.

Crystal-Maze - Cheers. I cannot agree more. The biggest flaw with Inquisitor imo is they always seem to fight each other. So I am planning three different chaos cults. Plus the undivided cult I already have:
Drazuul - Thanks. The skin is a mix of Rakarth(s?) Flesh, Flat flesh adding screaming skull and then white for the highlights. Wash of thinned Baal Red and thinned Asurman blue at an early stage of highlighting. Used Orange windsor and newton ink on her lips.
A Cookbook. Cheers

That sword is awesome and she looks disturbed and grim. Sinister just the way a Chaos sorceress should be.

Can I ask what varnish you use ?

Like the way you haven't gone over the top with the colour scheme. The purple bow tie and the "flesh" sword give nice warm feel and contrast to otherwise cold tones. I might have used some complementary colours in shade areas to really deepen the tones, but that's just me nitpicking.
By the way, what do you mean by the Desert Eagle tech?
Llamahead - As soon as I saw the Warriors of Chaos Hell Striders I knew there "arms" would make perfect Daemon Weapons.
LDD. Thanks man. I always imagine bionics to be uncomfortable and the skin round them to be sore. I have only ever used GW Purity Seal, I had to go back to the gold armour highlights after varnishing because it lost its shine. For gloss areas I used GW Ard Coat or Tamiya clear colours.
GiraffeX - Cheers
Medium of Death - Cheers. The Pestigors and the Sorcerer are finished and in a box. I had a little modelling hiatus when I finished those models. I will take some pics the next time the camera is out.
So, for the gold i have used shining gold as my main colour. I like that it is sort of greenish in the gold. I'm sorry there won't be any step by step pictures. That's because i don't plan on painting another golden guy anytime soon, unless i feel the urge to field yet another captain of some sort. I paint them gold as i find it looks cool and singles them out easily on the tabletop.
Anyway, this is sort of from memory... i kind of wing it a little when i paint and never really follow an exact recepie. I do however always use plenty of water (otherwise it will just be lots of lumps in the paint, specially with metallic paints) except maybe the very sharpest highlights where i find a slightly thicker paint gives me more control.
I started out with basecoating a dark colour on the armour. I belive it was black, orange and gold mixed together into a dark brown yet slightly metallic colour. Thereafter i pick out the shiny parts, those areas that i want to reflect a lot of light using more or less shining gold. I then work alot with the shadow parts, mixing gold with orange, black and sometimes green instead of orange (i think) but putting less and less of the other colours into the gold as i go brighter. Some areas i simply dont want to be shiny at all, so there i use no metallic paint into the mixtures so that it gets really dull. For the highlights i have mixed mithrill silver with shining gold, but just so much silver that it still stays golden.
What i belive gives the worn look is the way i apply the highlights. If you look at the collar or the chest eagle, you can see damage and chipps in the gold. It's simple, i never highlighted it i just left it "blank" and painted the shiny parts in sort of blotches. Not finishing the entire line there gives the apperance of chipped armour. One could ocourse paint the chipes, but i found this to look more realistic since metallic paint is all about creating reflecting and dull areas, using the natural lightsources ( or artificial in the form of lightbulbs of course). I also have a sort of zenital approach (the idea of light comming from a source above...like the sun, if you are unfamilliar with the term) in what is painted dull and what is painted reflecting. So there is alot more pure gold at the top of his armour than at the bottom. If you look at the legs there is very little that is shiny, just the very edges if his legs and so forth while the top is amlost the opposite. However, i haven't painted the non-gold stuff in this mindset as they don't need to create reflections in the same way to look good.
I don't know if this was of any help, but you can always ask again if it was to unclear. There may be more colours involved, i don't remember, but i sort of often paint with a limited palette. In my mind, it's the other stuff, like the red and bone of the purity seals, that really brings out the gold and makes it interesting.

The plan was to paint him in a week and I did it...this time yellow pictures rather than blue....wtf! Originally he was going to be bald but he just looked too much like a Genestealer Magos...which was not the intention. I tried dry brushing on the gold and regret that now, so I will need to go over those areas with some gold glazes I think to even out the effect.
A Dwimmer is an old fashioned word for wizard. He is armed with a duelling pistol, fireballs , Aether Claws (left hand) a set of clawed rings helping in the arcane art of sorcery, scratching the occult hand gestures into the surface of the air, clawing through the barriers of real space. Izesfin also has a page taken from the blasphemous tome Carcosa, extracts of which are hidden though out the Dalthus Sector. The extract is held aloft by a mechanical pincer as touching the page will cause nothing but misery and madness. Gazing upon the words on the extract can cause the reader to weep blood, a price worth paying for the power its grants?

Is the base model an Imperial Witch-hunter ? Or Luthor Huss (sp?), maybe ? Yet another model full of character... The Chaos sorcerer hand is a nice touch... And the paintjob is topnotch !

Llamahead - An afrer thought really. The blue trousers were another thing that make him look genestealer cultisty.
Yggdrasil - The base model is a Empire Warrior Priest, right arm from Chaos Sorcerer and the left hand from Dark Vengeance cultist squad leader. I wish I had given him futuristic knee pads to make him look a little more 40k from the front.

As much as they'd might push him more into the 40k setting, kneepads would just cover up his fabulous trousers
Another fantastic character, conversion, paint job. You've really done well in unifying all of the little additions and alterations in the conversion work as well as in painting. The amount of character he has is stunning!

Medium of Death - Cheers. The Pestigors and the Sorcerer are finished and in a box. I had a little modelling hiatus when I finished those models. I will take some pics the next time the camera is out.
Looking forward to it!
Izesfin looks great. Loving all the details. Really like his trousers for some reason and is that a soul stone I spy?
LDD - Phew i was worried you were going to spill the beans.
Commander Cain - Thanks. The yellow detracts from the genestealer vibe.
Northen - Cheers buddy. How are the wolves coming? Must be time for an update?....ha ha coming from me.
tinfoil - Thanks. I'm glad he comes across well.
Medium of Death - will take the pics of the nurglii stuff at the weekend (I cannot wait until it gets light when i'm not at work...sad winter face).
Not specifically a soul stone just a nice red gem....salia's is a cracked and enchanted soul stone. Turns out I'll be painting a ranger, for a game later in the year, who has taken offense at Salia's attire and choice of god! Will be fun to add his soul stone to garb...always the optimist.

neil101 - Thanks buddy. "veetas face is captivating" all the better to seduce you with ;-)
So 2014 is off with a grand start with 3 models finished already! But now they are painted it is back to the modelling table and playing with plastic and green stuff again. Three more Slaaneshii characters for this warband before it is done. But for now here is the daemon host and I am so unbelievably happy with this one. Turned out just how I imagined and the claws better than I hoped (plus they only look five minutes of wet blending)
Daemon Host Plasirpijn - Keeper of Secrets bound to the daughter of Salia Veeta using a single strand of silver barbed wire.
(Oh and I have not forgotten the Pestigors - I have now taken pictures just need to edit them...tomorrow night I promise)
