they are game cards from a small game we got inside of christmas calendar...do you have these in the U.S? it´s a german tradition i think... anyway... the game was rubbish so the cardstock stuff went straight to my materials^^

I'm not a huge fan of the Steam punk aesthetic but these flyers are beautiful.

Exceptional use of a hole punch as well.

at adam... thanks mate... the holepunch is one major tool in my drawer!

at shrike... well i am not really that atendent anymore... life teaches you soemtimes down the line that you dont have to be there all the time and still "appear" to be there all the time

at theo... the underside is reserved for the clear plastic rods to create the illusion of flight... and it takes four! of these to achive that...

If I'm being honest, up until the last wip shot I just couldn't see this coming together. Mea Culpa - that gondola really looks excellent now! I'm still a little unsure on the balloons, but I'm just going to trust and have faith in the Vik.

ha....!....ha!....er... well... to tell you the truth... the balloons still are not the best choice... I had the whole thing left outside on the balcony to dry and I think one of them balloons just burst... the shape is still holding...but I dunno how it will react once I start adding new coats... could falter completely and look like a burst balloon...

at shaso.. lol... well we´ll see about a big under slung cannon, ok?^^

as for the riveting... yup... it will commence^^

The Gondola has become a master piece early on I was not really sold on it I know so I kept quite on the updates but now it has all just pulled together and works perfectly.

Your card work is spot on (something I shy away from to be honest) the SP metal work looks fantastic and sells the concept even more so.

The flyer was my favourite piece but this has just jumped in to first place now I am still a little unsure as to the balloon lay out, however due to my earlier misguided reservations I will wait to see the completed model.

One last thing the chimney stacks on the Gondola, I hope they will be getting SP themed love as well

Able to salvage it by stuffing it with something else like plastic bags or paper?

If not next time, try to put a balloon inside another one. Blow the first up a little then deflate it to stretch it a bit, then stuff the second in it and inflate that one. Might hold up better, but will also be a little tougher to blow up.

Vik can handel it! The work you have done is impressive Vik. I love the detail work, can't wait to see some rivets.

Vik, sounds like we may have more goodness to witness when the next round of pics go up

well i am still thinking about how to steampunky up the smokestacks... for my part i shy away from clay/GS still....but that would be the best way i think...

i had the balloon in balloon idea too... but alas it was too late... that whole build got stuffed in the garbage can in the morning... see below for further developments

ok lads and ladies... here comes the first riveting session in months...yeah... dire times are gone... we get happy from riveting

so behold... riveting scnenes ...:

since my earlier attempt to make a blimp out of cans and balloons died on me i had to make some decisions...which meant in essence this try went into the garbage can...
the good thing with being a scratchbuilder is to have no fear of starting from...wait for it...scratch
so i started anew... this time i used cans from cheaper pringles-like chips... all in all there are now 14 cans together with a lot of wallpaper glue and serviettes...
this is what you soon will see with the gondola...note the lil fella on pic 2 and 3... for scale :





and then i worked on the gondola while everything dried...
front windows got framed:


with still room enough to rivet these frames as well...

and the overall riveting job i did on the gondola for now (only one side and the upper and lower steel works need rivets too...










so what do you think?

and for the smokestacks... how and what should i add?...

Nice detail work. Interested in seeing what becomes of the pringle can tower of "is that going to remain that shape" construction.

it will be the new blimp... and in the fullness of time it will get steel girder and hopefully i will figure out a way to make the bow and the rear a bit more pointed...

The pringle tubes are intriguing, coning them down to pointy ends will be fun.

I'm also with Dr H, struggling to see what the Pringle tubes will end up as, but I have faith in you my good (mad)man

This is the beauty of scratchbuilds, you can rip it up and start again if it's not working

As for the smokestacks - add brass rings around the pipes with rivets, then have a larger diameter pipe for the tops with a crenellated edge (similar to the pattern you used on the card strips around the gondola)

Oh, so you're still going to go for a classic airship look then, the tubes are just for the bulk of the structure?
I was just curious if you were going for a drastic change in shape and keeping the separate cell look of each tube.

For the skeleton maybe use some wire of a suitable thickness each bent at the tip and meeting together there (like a whisk if you know what I mean?) and then a few rings around it as shown in the picture you posted.

the smoke stacks are very small... they are cardboard spools for sewing... the diameter isn´t really that big... and i don´t have any matching bigger spools atm... and i might have done a donky job myself as the two stacks on each side are very close to each other...

and yep... those front windows indeed look like chameleon eyes^^! thought that while building and detailing them every two secs^^

all will be more clear tomorrow once i´ve started that girder work...

the tubes you see now are kinda the ballons for storing the heated air... for aerodynamical reasons i will make a small peak on each front and rear end...the current stmup look will stay... in a way... it is really quite compliated... it has and will still have in the end six balloon like tubes...(argh... speech impediment^^)
