Ok, had no time to lurk here for a while...

First, cheers for completing the plane! and while I'm not fond of chosen paint scheme it turned out great.

Second, the brick... that fly... niiiiice but that's a freaking flying brick what type of ram could it possibly use?!? No grot would ever mount a ram on a ram, that'll be too close to safety measures and ruin all the fun!

We here in Russia have a "game" called "catch a brick". it's like playing tags but you tag people by throwing a brick at them Not an actual game, more of a joke or a warning like when you want someone to go away you say "go play catch a brick".

Mushrooms don't bite, but he has inhaled too much of the spores. I think Vik may have been too proppa for too long, and now his dark green side is coming out.

yup... my proppa side has led me down and thus the green mean side is gaining influence

Camkierhi wrote:As to the grot carrying some bricks, a traditional method here at least would be a "hod". See pic below. And I know I have grots that look like they are carrying something on there shoulders, and it would be relatively easy to make.

ah... that is a good idea, those hods would be a good way for transport and way easier to make than a bucket...tho I have done buckets in the past too... but that look is more appealing to me...

I kinda regret a little that I went for the blue on the grot fighta... it is putting an influence on the whole army scheme... maybe eventually I have to repaint it? I think red or orange grots somehow are more in line with the brick scheme I am now following?... or am I able to have an army of grots that have a sort of cobbled together scheme?...I doubt it...?

and I recently yelled at an offending driver while driving with the family that he should bite a brick... I think that image of bricks and what one should/could do with it is a worldwide meme^^

cormadepanda wrote:The brick zooka is an awesome idea. It needs some kinda motor or coils or cables powering it. Also. Grot-falcon needs to be made.

I share your views panda, but atm I think I started that grotzukka the wrong way...atm it just has a barrel each and a "bucket" for a funnel... some engine parts need to follow soon... cables too... I need to see what can be done about that...simulating engines with PC is still something I am not good at (or to put it better... haven´t done so at all yet and have no clue how to start...)

more pics later on for sure...

cheers,vik

Hello? Did someone mention my name? and sprue?

You could make individual bricks from sprue, but that would be very time consuming.
However, you could make a line of bricks from a length of sprue by just scoring it at regular intervals and then put another length on top with the grooves offset... Still a fair amount of work over a square of foam.

However I'm stuck for ideas of how to make the brick texture on sprue...?

I came up with a possible idea for that, if you are still interested:

(The one on the right was basecoated with orange enamel, so it didn't require prior priming)

Reference pic:

Folded a strip of rough sandpaper (N° 60 grit) and pressed it in the bench vice to engrave the sandpaper's texture onto the sprue brick.

With some tuning, I think it could work, and it can be applied to a pre-scored longer lenght of spue too, to make a complete line at a time.

now that is a very good idea little tower! what a way to establish yourself here thank you very much...

bench vice and sandpaper are essential tools I have at my desk at all times... specially my vice is something I hold most dear... there are so many things you can do with this...

I will try that really soon... sadly it was too late for my first batch of bricks I placed inside the brickzooka... but that still will be used for the ones to be build further on!

thanks noodles! I need all the luck I can get!

at KC... challenge...damn... I have my hands full...already... beside... how big is giant for you...? really giant or just mere big?...also... gimme your thread you actually host these days... I think I need to have a read me some orky education

to all the other nice gents and ladies out there...

here comes the update for the day...

the brickzooka turret... now suitably detailed and manned...er grotted...

I used cut up bitz of the lascanon bit from the IG HW team... and cables and also I added stacks and some additional gubbins...

also... it now has a gunner... but that is better to be seen without the actual turret all around...:

I again used the rider legs from the goblin set... also the arm that is holding a human head by its hair now is converted to be a pointy hand... and the horn blowing arm is now steering the turret...

what do you say?

cheers, vik

Mr. Vik - My thread is in the link in my signature that says KCs WAAAAGH! or something like that. And by giant I mean giant for a Squig. So could probably pass as a Deff dread? Something along those lines Id say, maybe a tad smaller, so between Killakan and Dread?

Tax been a really long time since I looked at orks (gorkamorka for reference), but I just had a memory of how the Ork driver was posed. Given a file and greenstuff you could easily have an Ork a brick to fill the hods . Totally a joke, and might not b good around the kids, but might be the best unseen addition to a brick flinging Ork contraption ever.

The Great Repurposing Contest

Please spread this around on your plogs! Thanks.

--------------

The contest theme:
Repurposing – that is taking a miniature from one system and remodelling, repainting or otherwise repurposing it for another. We all go through phases in our gaming, and often pretty love-hate with GW. The aim is to spur creativity and use what you have lying around to some other, more current purpose.

The rules:
The piece must be recognisably part of the system you are aiming for. Generic future soldiers used as guard wouldn’t cut it; with the addition of aquilae, they would (at least, at a basic level). You need to provide clear pictures of your base model and bits, indicating what system it is from, and explain what system you are repurposing it for. The more imaginative and creative your approach, the greater your overall chance of success. There is no limitation on what system you repurpose to and from; you can stay within the same manufacturer (for example, Spartan’s Dystopian Wars to Uncharted Seas) or entirely different (for example, an Urban War Viridian to WH40k Guardsman). Crossing manufacturers will, however, be rewarded.

Scoring:
A maximum score of 100 is possible. Ties will be broken by the judges (myself and Briancj). If the judges are deadlocked, I will call upon readers of this plog to vote. If THAT deadlocks, I'll declare a tie, and divide up the prizes appropriately.

Repurposing: Core Model. These points are not cumulative; imaginative use of bits from a range of manufacturers (or just random stuff) will count in your favour.
Core model is declared simply to be “for another system” - 0 points
Core model is from the same manufacturer – up to 10 points
Core model is from a different manufacturer – up to 15 points

Basing:
I love a good base. I’m not going to be shy in including that as a criterion. These points ARE cumulative.
Model is based – 0 points
Model is based in a way that repurposes other items – up to 10 points
Model is based in a way that adds narrative – up to 10 points

Modeling:
These points ARE cumulative. A focus on techniques and designs that are easy to copy/emulate will score more points, here. You're helping the masses make terrain. A unique entry might be something that makes the judges go 'ah-ha, that's a GREAT idea'. This is where you can score points for originality of design.
Entry shows a unique idea - 10 points
Entry is visually interesting - 10 points
Entry is visually distinct from the original Core Model- 10 points

Painting:
Points are not cumulative. Minimum three colors. Washes and highlights to qualify as well painted, at a minimum. Amazingly well painted is something that wows the judges. Roughly, painting scores will be as follows
Entry is painted to a basic standard - 10 points
Entry is well painted - 15 points
Entry s well painted and uses unusual techniques - 25
Entry is amazingly well painted - 35 points

-----------

Weight will be given to people who come up with UNIQUE, creative uses for things lying around in bits boxes!
You may not use creations, and as with all League competitions, show your work. Deadline for entries is Thursday September 26th, 2013. Judging will occur a few days later, over the weekend. There will be no extensions allowed, as you’ve got plenty of time and had a heads-up already.

Submit your "WiP" photograph ASAP here in The Ordo Bloggit. With your completed photograph, submit an explanation of what you’ve repurposed for.

The prizes:

Okay, so in keeping with the theme of the contest, the prize pool is stuff that you could repurpose to other systems. There's 4 to choose from:

Urban War Sabre CLAU

Wargods Heru archers (and more)

Confrontation Griffin Conscripts & Wolfen repentant 2

Scibor Sci-Fi Knight (Templar #6)

(Although doesn't come with scenic base)

Top 3, and a Rule of Cool prize (to be given to one entry for sheer coolness!). The prizes listed are not in order - first place, first choice, and so on. If there are many many entries I'm going to p provide more prizes.

And the very best of luck to you all!

We've already got some great entries started by Llamahead, ryanroberts and Viktor von Domm. Let's do this!

On the colour issue....you can always go old school and do different clans, some Deathskulls (blue) some Goffs (black, white and red) some Evil sunz (red) some Badmoonz (black and yellow). And if its a grot army they will not actually be clan based anyways and use whatever the big boyz cast off.

I love the blue. And congratulations on the 2nd place in the comp. Your work is brilliant, and is only getting better.
