@redharvest, the problem with using real tile is the thickness would show very quickly. Now maybe I you use the cheap(really thin) vinyl peel and press squares cut down to 1"x1" then it would look like thick tile.

Is this meant to be a poured concrete building? It looks perfect if it is. I would maybe add some reinforcing steel sticking out in the odd place here and there.

Looking really promising for the future.

I have been thinking about adding rebars, need to figure out a way to scratchbuild these then...

You guys do nice work on water damaged flooring.

well I didn´t want to be too repetitive so I tried to come up with different floorings schemes for each one...

well.... I used glass tiles you would use for mosaic work...and I have the plastic gem stuff you get in cheap 1 $ stores... both work for a given value of "work"...

Do not disrespect beer, good sir. How is English cider by the way? In the US, we get it sweet. The Spanish style is tangy (and not really to my taste) and the French-- well the Normans anyway-- have nice dry ciders. I like the Norman style best. But I know nothing of English style.

And to get back to topic, a few jugs lying around would look cool.

brewing your own? now that sounds interesting... I have tried some made here in berlin in small breweries...and always these have had nice unusual tastes...
and jugs...what jugs?...

as said above... everything can be used provided you keep a close watch on scale...if one would cheat with wall heights that could probably be fixed...

If you're looking for rebar, Zinge Industries has some. I can't comment on the quality of these quite yet, but I do have a package on the way, and I've been happy with everything I've gotten from him so far.

I quite like the local Scrumpy which is flat rather than sparkling, and can vary from dry to sweet. And the cider itself can vary as well. In general i prefer dry, but i don't like it too smoky.

True Scrumpy is only real if it has straw floating in it. And I have had Scrumpy strong enough to floor an elephant. (Come from down dar see.)

And Hobgoblin is a perfectly good ale.

Zinges stuff is awesome, got loads.

As to making your own, well may I humbly suggest (bows respectfully.)

1) 2.5mm Copper wire. Used here for socket circuits. Bendy and strong enough, but plain.

2) Plastic rod, with thin strands of wire corkscrewed around it.
Spoiler:

3) Some of that garden mesh that's square.

(Bows twice more.)

Dave may well have a better suggestion, try shouting him. He is the building Master.

For rebar, just twist some thin wire together in a drill or something, although I think that at this scale, regular paperclip wire lengths cut and bent work fine.

I must admit, I am waiting with great antiscipation of an update here, have a feeling it is going to blow us away.

Berlin Germany

hey mates, sorry for no updates for again quite some time...

remember all those moons ago discussions of me doing more paintwork and less talk here on dakka?...well...that´s exactly what has occurred...
if it was a false decision...you decide

speaking of...painting... there has been lots... and construction...and modelling...

first...construction work...

again I need to give a lot of credit to CAM´s stunning work on his LoER entry... he gave me the solution to the roofing problem I had... building a sturdy structure to later on be hatched with random junk...

tho here I used everything with a more random looking character, wood from trees (half a tree it should look...tho it is in reality just a mere twig^^) and a wood and cardboard made H- beam, then cardboard tubes and a wooden rod made to look like a giant pipe...all that hammered together with boards of wood and even bound together with ropes...

also..as dave suggested the pipes on the walls cant hang there just by means of magic...so they got bolted to the wall...

also I added rebar on various points on the floor and walls...

and... painting started...

and roof got its junk added...also painting commenced immediately so no WIP pics there...

and then to get to the cooky side of the dio...I started with a lil scratch building...
I already showed the build of the BBQ... but I planned to add a lil something to spice things up a bit... I added some light effect to the thing, the battery got hidden inside a self made fridge... I am rather proud of the build of the fridge and the weathering and painting seems to me currently my best work so far... I need to remember how I got there...
later on I will show a "IN FUNCTION" pic or better a vid... to show the effect...
but for now... BBQ with fridge...

hope you´ll like ^^

ALSO...

got a question for you lot...
I have a project planned... I want to create a small minions army... I have seen projects out in the WWW but I am no sculpter... so...I want to do this like a did other stiff...more glueing and hacking stuff than sculpting... so how would you start with creating 28mm minions?...

Spoiler:

thanks and hopefully I will be able to update sooner next time...yours truly vik

Mostly, on my phone.

Ok,
Well, love the restaurant, great colours, and did you use a straw for the drain pipe? Cool. More than that I feel I can't really comment!

As for minions, how about using Sm shoulder pads as a starting point?

Looking amazing Vik, the master returns.

All looking great, brilliant piece with the fridge, truly stunning. Can't wait to see this finished. Your roof is excellent, where did that idea come from.

I would go with the shoulder pads, and just a small piece of styrene tube say 1mm long cut for the eye pieces, couple pieces of Sprue alla DrH and you have feet. Baddabing. Love the idea really looking forward to seeing you have a go, I just know it will be stunning. Off to see if I have any SM pads laying around I can send your way.

thanks mate... I really wouldn´t have come so far if not for your own inventiveness ... by the way... should I add rivets to the roof plates or would I get away with it as it currently is?

I have lots of additional stuff in the making currently to make this place more homely...I think I need to add some more spot colors here and there...

as for the suggestions... hmmm... sprue feet... that is a nice idea... I think if time allows I will try to make a prototype with pads and we´ll see if I can make a working convincing minion...

cheers,vik

Hmmm.. You need an available supply of pill-shaped things, preferably plastic. you can then use any shape for the legs of the minions and cover them with coveralls (either painted or sculpted)

For the minions maybe look at these guys for the base body?

Probably would be able to pick up a ton of the things for cheap somewhere. They seem around the right size from memory. One thing to remember is they all have a ball bearing inside them. I'll go see if I can find the few I have somewhere to get a shot of them next to some mini to show size better. Also another quick thought is there probably are minion toys that small, but that's sort of cheating huh.

Ball bearing inside? Would make magnetizing interesting. Vik beat me to the minion army build. There is a guy at the local flgs that has built a minion (skaven) army. He has dr. Nefario on a scooter (screaming bell), minions inside the doom wheel, and I think gru is the vermin lord . I had salvaged some plastic tube trays from work which I was going to use to mold the minions in. The trays are the shipping base that holds the tubes, they are the black plastic things in this picture.

I just never got around to trying to make some using plaster first as a test run. On second thought I might not even need to cast them as I could just cut them from the tray and slide two halves together like a pill . I'll try it this week vik, if it works decently I'll try and score you some and ship them to you .

Edit: went ahead and quickly ran downstairs to try it out. The plastic is really thin and flimsy, but I have enough right now for about 125 minions

that was one of my first thoughts regarding the shape of the body too...tho...you have to remind yourself that these minions would then when based on pills be very slim AND tiny... I fear further detailing would be almost impossible...and ebay brought only endless snuffboxes up...

I actually had thought about going for dried beans...the ones like elephant beans you cook meals with... they have a shelf live that is verging on the endless time scale...but they are often so odd shaped...

I looked them up on ebay...lots of variants, seems also some supermarket chains did some collectible schemes here and these are for sale too...but all at collectible prices...which kinda kills the horde army idea I had... I even thought...why not go ogre size and use kinder eggs...hmmm but doesn´t feel right...
but a scale shot would be nice nevertheless!!!
