Hi vik, just poped in to see how everything is going; I really like the half track...This is looking promising.

thanks mate!

also....update!

lookee here:

the tracks are now already glued to the frame, the front wheels too and the sponsons also...
not seen on the pics here is that I changed the front slightly, and I added portholes to each side...

and even further, I need to ask for your advice...see the back of the truck?... I want to add a big door there... or a smaller one and a ladder?...opinions?

and I try to magnetize the turret on top to have it turnable...(magnets sponsored by our loony theo by the way.... thanks again for that mate!)

cheers, vik^^

Yep, it is big!

But that's Vic style as we like it.
With the size of the vehicle, the potential amount of passengers, or heavy weapons to be transported, I'd go for a ramp, that can be lowered and equipment be rolled out, or several soldiers can exit at the same time.
That is a big bad monster

Nice - quad las-cannons in the turret and 4 sponson cannons...I like

The idea of hatch and ladder appeals to me... but you could possibly go for a large ramp/hatch and have rungs up the tracks/sponsons/side armour - bit of treadplate on top of the sponsons and the track guard...might be interesting

Considering the size of the cab, how about a pintle-monted weapon on a hatch there too? A bit of anti-personnel fire never goes amiss

Not where I should be

I would say no to a ladder, just gives the enemy access, and what would the troops want to go up there for?

So one door, or maybe a split rear door.

Looking amazing, brilliant on size and shape, great work sir, as always.

Back of the truck doors? Big ones like on an 18-wheeler's trailer, but with a smaller door inset into one of the big ones.

Love me some monster trucks. True

That clear plastic half case on the roof? Did it once house an iPod touch perchance?

Good work Vik. Looks like it could drive over the rhino and barely notice.

For the back. With the height that the interior will be above the ground I think it needs a ramp.

However, you could do both. A large ramp with a hinge at the bottom (like on a rhino), but have a hatch/door (with side hinges) in the middle of the ramp for troops. Flush on the inside so nobody trips on it, but a normal looking hatch on the outside.

That could hold 20-25 men, a platoon of 20 with their command squad! OR as Klaus suggested, roll a cannon crew out the back ramp, cannon and all 3-6 men

the pintle mounted gun is something I need to do...a bolter or something like that for sure! and big ramp... see below...and treadplate too ... I am currently uncertain about any form of ladder... ...need to have some serious thinking about that...

I share your view atm about the ladder... which still makes me doubting it...

would have loved to do that door in door idea... that would have been a truly nice addition...but you will see why this I couldn´t have done...
the clear roof thingy was iirc from a q-tip package... or some crème of my wife...something beauty related for sure...no apple related item at least as we simply don´t have the money for this companies goodies... boy are they fricking expensive!!!

ramp *check* ^^, running over rhino´s still on the to do list
for RL I could even imagine a ramp that is resting on rails...behind a two part giant door/gate thingy...and when the door opens the ramp slides out...unfortunately that I couldn´t construct...(yet)

shasolenzabi wrote:That could hold 20-25 men, a platoon of 20 with their command squad! OR as Klaus suggested, roll a cannon crew out the back ramp, cannon and all 3-6 men

I tested today if a HW base would fit... none such luck... but actually it can hold in GW terms as many as you stated...I currently cant tell what space inside is ... but I bet it would fit ten men with no hussle...

well.... this project is currently very motivating... and thus I show you yet another substantial update...

I had a lil talk with my wife and she encouraged me to have the interior worked out... which I did today...
at first I made a treadplate floor, then I knew I had to do something about the guns...(changed them to heavy bolters by the way as you can see on the new pics...) so I made some inside guncontrols (wrong term...but couldn´t remember how to name it properly...) but I could always declare them remote controlled...your thoughts?
also the portholes from the outside needed some equivalent in the inside...(done!)...
then I worked on the ramp/hatch... again I have to thank Theo for the cool neodyme magnets... wonderful stuff... they now work for the sealing aperatus of the hatch/ ramp...
two old picture hinges now work as hinges for the hatch... I used small 2mm rivets and a sandwich method to get them installed without too much chance of breaking free... it works like a charm... even tho I had a small accident with super glue what partly ruined one hinge... it now is a bit stiffer then needed... but still works...

well enough talk...here are the pics:

thanks for looking,

I know I wrote a wall of text up there... but what do you think of the gun controls... as I see it due to the arch I made outside of the bolters the inside controls are pretty cramped...

your ideas?

also... the back compartment and the drivers cab... should they be connected via a door?... or should I use the space for some comps and monitors and other tech gizmos?

Great work vik! That's coming on nicely.

Have to admit I'm torn on the gunnery stations....part of me likes that they're there, part of me doesn't.

I think at the moment I'm falling more on the side of having a console and view screen on the wall for each sponson rather than the actual guns......but then I think that having the guns there is more in line with the Viktorian feel......hmmm, like I said...torn. Not helping you much that, is it?

If you took out the guns you could have a low bench down either side....somewhere for troops to sit, and also somewhere for them to stand to fully utilise the viewports...they look a little high otherwise.

If the cab has a side hatch and a pintle hatch, then do they need access to the compartment? Although as spacious as it is in there, you could probably fit an access door and some comms gear on the dividing wall.

well... the access hatch would be a kind of fall back or emergency access for the separate spaces... to have quick access... not needed if everything works smooth... but when push comes to shove...
I actually thought you could have both... the computer controls and the portholes and benches for sitting... I will experiment on consoles and benches tomorrow! your actually gave me more food for thought which I needed!!! thanks MT

I dunno atm if the Victorian feel for that vehicle is still needed... it is quite clear that this isn´t a steampunk halftrack...

Yeah, I think an access hatch makes sense, was just thinking aloud as to whether it was needed or not...I think hatch and equipment will fit nicely on there anyway.

If you're not planning on adding it to your Viktorians then I'd say go for consoles on the wall for controlling the sponsons....or even say they're controlled from a gunnery station in the cab...the cab is fairly sizeable itself....could accomodate a driver a gunner and a commander/hatch gunner.

Nice work Vik.
Good to see you doing interior details. Now you need, computer consoles, ammo storage, occupants, more computer consoles, hatches, yes to a door between the front and rear, Lots of cables and wires, ...

The gun controls are a little long. If the gunner wanted to change target from extreme to extreme, he would have to shuffle quite a long way. Maybe half the length of that part, or even just have the handles (as all the working parts are contained inside the turret drum). Then add a removable hatch (flush with the surface) on each drum for access to un-jam and reload.

And then you could add...

While I like the gun handles I definitely think remote guns is the way to go. Everyone now a days is so computer or electronic oriented and would be simpler to use. Plus think of the comic relief if the guys inside think they are playing a video games shooting zombies and they ARE actually shooting in I net bystanders outside. Yes I am sick

The Half-tack is looking amazing. If people are allowed to see into the interior, have you considered bench seats down the centre of the troop compartment, back to bacj. You could easily get all your boys in that way and leave space for gunners.

Plus it means your mensd backs are not against the hull waiting to get peppered with shrapnel

Now, now Vik!
The ramp is excellently executed and I love the details on the inside for the Bolters - great job
And the central bench (Red Army style) allows for good troop seating, but I'd still look into the option of (at least partially) removable bench section, so you can manhandle a heavy weapon - the Forgeworld Krieg heavy Stubber on wheels comes to my mind.
Really nice project!
