My son picked up Rimworld recently and I have also been sucked in

I have tried not to, but I had to roll back to an earlier save when a random attacker rolled in, torched my fields while half the group was away on a caravan and it spread to my base :(

Otherwise, my main problem is getting components. Need to get my trading game on with all the cotton I appear to be producing.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

There's a lot of cooking (legit be a fast food worker), cleaning, goat simulator and similar games lately. Half surprised there isn't a "watching paint dry" simulator game yet getting rave reviews.

------

Aside from all that nonsense i have been playing more terra invicta and it's off and on boring or not. The last of my moon orbitals is about to be wiped off the map and it's about to look dicey around Earth. Of course i have other fleets i can send and they will be superior fleets so it's not all bad. However there are a couple enemy alien fleets causing trouble but others which i will wipe out easily. The only real fear i have is the enemy aliens are sending 5 alien transport ships to Earth and that may still take many months to get there but if i can intercept them in time then it won't be really bad. Otherwise i have 15 alien armies to contend with and probably not enough armies without nukes to handle them with.

I have bribed my neighbours in Rimworld into a more pleasant relationship. Hoping this leads to more trading opportunities, and less face-shooting!

I have also tamed some Muffaloes, and muffalo babies are now arising. My son is offended by the idea I might want to use the calves for future food supply purposes

This from the boy who needed to be instructed that harvesting the organs of captured attackers would be frowned upon by the parental units.

Plugging away at Darksouls still. I haven't yet encountered a single invader/summon in the few weeks I've been playing and I've been unhollowed for the majority of it. It's completely dead. I guess everyone finally moved on to Elden Ring.

Time was you couldn't go 2 minutes unhollowed without being invaded by some jerk looking to get behind you for a quick bit of dark hand action.

I was reading an article at work the other day about the rise of what the author is calling "dad games" . . . The author went super deep into researching it but, the short version is that these "dad games" popularity can be explained by aging demographics among gamers, limited game time due to professional/familial commitments, and the psychological hit of the "job well done" that so many dad games provide.

So, dad games, as a "definition" are typically games wherein one does a Job, the game starts as chaotic looking, and you make it orderly: so, car mechanic simulator, tank mechanic simulator, train simulator, euro trucker simulator, power washer simulator, stadium renovator, ship scrapping simulator, etc. All of them are designed to be pretty simple to grasp mechanically (even if there are "deep" mechanics, they make sense, are intuitive and pretty easy to get to/use), tend away from frustration, etc. So, basically, the opposite of what all "the youths" are on with their fortnites and CODs and battlefield and whatnot. It's a way to unwind without all that excess drama and "excitement".

Ya, I guess when you're young you wanna blow stuff up but then you get old like me and you want to fix things and tidy them up. Looks like I should try Power Washing Simulator....

I played through the entire questline of Solomorne's in Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader. I was a bit disappointed, in all honesty. The story wasn't as cohesive and interesting as Kibellah's in the last DLC. There were a lot of betrayals in that one too, but I really felt them, where in the Lex Imperialis DLC, I didn't. I guess it's because it's all on the ship, allowing me to interact more with the new cast of characters where the Lex DLC does a lot of planet hopping, and such. Solomorne was, okay as a character. It does seem you as the Rogue Trader can influence him more, or more obviously, than the other companions and Glaito is the goodest boi! Anyway, it was still really fun with some creative plot points.

"The best way to lie is to tell the truth." Attelus Kaltos.
My story! Secret War
After his organisation is hired to hunt down an influential gang leader on the Hive world, Omnartus. Attelus Kaltos is embroiled deeper into the complex world of the Assassin. This is the job which will change him, for better or for worse. Forevermore. Chapter 1.

The Angaran Chronicles: Hamar Noir. After coming back from a dangerous mission which left his friend and partner, the werewolf: Emilia in a coma. Anargrin is sent on another mission: to hunt down a rogue vampire. A rogue vampire with no consistent modus operandi and who is exceedingly good at hiding its tracks. So much so even the veteran Anargrin is forced into desperate speculation. But worst of all: drive him into desperate measures. Measures which drives Anargrin to wonder; does the ends, justify the means?

The Flaw Mechanic in Outer Worlds 2 is pretty hilarious.

From developing bad knees that crack when crouched, the inability to stop stealing things, to this new flaw where my party takes a large percentage of my earnings and stores it away, only to be returned when I hit certain levels is hilarious. I spend so wildly that the game recognized I need to start saving, lol.

Pretty fun game, and I think its something I’ll replay quite a bit.

The best flaw is Easily Distracted, because it's hilarious just how many people misunderstood what it does because they were apparently too easily distracted when reading its description.

So on my latest re-start, I took this Flaw.

It's come up clutch in a few spots where some skills that I generally don't take were useful, but overall, I like my specialization. Finding computer terminals and locks that I can't hack/pick irks me to no end!

And as I get deeper into this game, I'm finding quite a few bugged quests that can't be "properly" finished because I did some stuff out of order. Its part of the... charm of Obsidian games though, so I knew it was coming.

Loving the game and exploring, but I might give it a rest depending on how fast patches/hotfixes come in.

Currently i am playing HoIV again.

China fun, also new doctrines are really cursed.
Manchukuo got probably the greatest glow up.

Things on bucket list for this DLC:
- NPA campaigning north and raising the 5 colour flag again.
- Japan democratic path because democracy is non negotiable.
- Yan's Plain campaign.
- Historical japan to relearn navy.

Oh boy....

I remember another friend playing this game. I think he said the gameplay was better than Origins but there were no evil choices to make and the story was weaker along with just characters not being very good and the game holding your hand a lot. Also it broke established lore quite a bit. To be honest i only played Origins so i don't know.

-----

Game keeps chugging along in Terra Invicta but it feels so slow again. My friend beat his campaign days ago after mention of my campaign got him started but the game just goes so slowly. I think i got the Humanity First fleet rating vs alien fleet rating ratio to about 1 to 4.5. I have to beat a big fleet coming to earth which should happen but the one i'm sending to Uranus will likely be intercepted and eventually destroyed. I also destroyed all the alien fleets and their alien space stations around lunar lagrange points and in earth orbits so that should help. I imagine that caused them to send the fleet at Earth since it happened not long after.

In terra invicta i think i got the alien fleet rating vs mine to less than 4 to 1. I took out a couple asteroid space stations the aliens had. I'm kind of unsure about my next steps as the last alien space station in the asteroid belt has a huge freaking alien fleet as does the ones around jupiter. I may be forced to attack saturn or uranus next. I also orbitally bombarded all the pro alien human factions of the face of Mars so that was easy and nice.

I also have infinitely better ship drives and the best power plant in the game. Thankfully the last power plant is extremely resource efficient so there should be a lot more ships soon enough. I could try researching the last ship drive but it costs 1 million research points. Most things in the game i have left to research don't go passed 100 thousand so it'll take a while but it's supposedly the best drive in the game.

Grabbing more of Earth is kind of pointless atm besides preventing the pro-alien forces grabbing it. The only thing worth investing into Earth in the game is fixing the environment and that's probably pointless in the game at 2058. What is worth investing in is more space resources, mission control and money to afford everything. Not much else really matters. Even research improvement isn't really too needed.

Anyway those are my updates for now. I'll be away during thanksgiving with family so i dunno if i'll update much in the next couple of days.

Finished Outer Worlds 2, with mostly satisfactory endings. I really messed up taking the ‘Easily Distracted’ flaw, but I still had enough skills/perks to get me to the endgame with little difficulty.

Pretty fun game, but I’ll probably wait for DLC to replay, as I turned over damn near every nook and cranny to explore every location and finish every quest that I was given.

Going to pause gaming for a few days to catch up on some reading between now and Hivescum dropping for Darktide. As well as Tides of Torment coming for WH3! Just a few more days!

One of my friend's really likes Outer Worlds 2 and i watch him stream it on Twitch.

------

I've been watching another person stream Vampire the masquerade 1 and it seems mostly good except some silly monsters and some bugs/exploits. Sorry to hear the sequel wasn't a proper sequel.

------

In terra invicta i've gotten to late 2060 and i have over 1,000 mission control. Aliens have less than 3 times my fleet rating now and i'm constantly destroying their space stations which have a lot of shipyards as well as some mines they have. If i can kill the next two fleets coming to Earth i'll be able to head to Uranus and destroy some more mines and space stations there. I'm in the ending part of the game which is basically where you match or beat alien fleets and just start wiping out all their bases.

Stuck on Black Dragon Kalameet in Darksouls. I can beat the winged prick easy enough if I have too, but I cannot for the life of me manage to chop his tail off to get the Obsidian Great Sword. He only has two attacks which put his tail in a position long enough to be hit. One attack (short range fire breath) I can trigger easy enough, but getting to his tail in time is troublesome. The other attack (tail slam) I cannot make him perform.

I don't even need the Obsidian Great Sword to get the Knights Honour achievement (one of the 4 left for me to get), but the completionist in me won't allow me to skip it.

A few days off it I think, and then I'll come back and have another whack at him.

Oh, the battle axe. Because I like to punish myself.

I didn't get any of the weapons from the non-respawning Black Knight, so they'll have to wait until I get to the Kiln, which I'm not up to yet. I suppose I could switch out to the crystal halberd or something. I think the great scythe has an overhead swing.
I also keep forgetting to use Power Within, which I've been finding makes bosses delightfully easy. Never a pyromancy I've paid much attention too, until this time around.

Nearly got in a strop with Diablo 2.

Duriel absolutely pasted me. Went recover, and for the first five attempts? It spawned me in with Duriel right behind me, and my corpse behind him. Basically had zero chance, as before I can react, he hits me with Cold, slowing me down. Two hits later I go squish.

Got there in the end though! I did appreciate that my damage on him remained, so wasn’t always a blank slate.

I found B.A.R. a few months ago. ( Beyond all Reason) It's Total Annihilation from way back in the mid to end of the 90's early 00's, but free.

It is in fact most unreasonable.

One thing I found amusing was the pile of DoW maps they are reusing. The scenarios are just as difficult as I remembered them so I gave up half way through.

The skirmish ai is quite ruthless. There's a lot of keys that I need to learn that will help me become more efficient but I'm not motivated enough to learn them. Kinda wish there was a tedious key bind video on the subject. There's quite a few tutorials maybe I just haven't found it yet. I am no currently playing online against other players but will most likely make an account.

Do any of you play?

Been playing through Marvel Cosmic Invasion and its definitely great, but a little short. The game arguably does too good of a job encouraging you to change up your characters, so by the time you reach its end, there's not this feeling that there's a lot you missed. Definitely one of the best brawlers I've played though. Great enemy and stage variety with a mix of cool characters that have a variety of playstyles. Plus Phyla-Vell and a bunch of other great characters who don't get nearly enough attention these days.
