Subject: -Crisp & Grey- A NZ blog (Update 2nd January - Kroot, so many Kroot!)
Excellent stuff, Knightly. A bloody nice number of models done, and just as importantly, you kicked so many of your goals that your year has to be an unequivocal success. I really do love the army of Inquisitorial warbands. So much character on each and every model. Great work!
@Wolvy - Cheers man, kind words are always appreciated, on to the new year eh?
@Azazelx - Thanks!
Update: Batrep for you! I would add more but my new years has fuddled my memory

11 x Horrors

1 x Demon Prince of Tzeentch, ML 3, Wings, Rewards
Ultramarines

Command squad + Razorback
Autocannon Predator with Heavy Bolter Sponsons
Sternguard – Combi-meltas Drop pod
Devastator squad + Rhino (Lascannons)
2 x Tactical Marines + Rhinos (MM + PG, Grav Cannon + Grav Gun)
1 x Scouts
Map + Objectives
6 objectives spattered around the map, Objective Marker 1 right on a Bunker, 4 out in the open, 2 near some ruins, 3 between the ruins and bastion, 6 out in the open and 5 near the other Bunker
Deployment:
Marines:
Demons:
Turn 1 Marines: Drew two cards due to the warlord trait for an additional Tactical Card
The Two Tactical Rhinos moved forwards and the lead rhino disgorges lead squad who move forward to Objective 4 (one of the cards) but are short an inch
The Captains Razorback moves forward and the Command Squad get out the back, LDP forgets that Orbital bombard is an Ordinance weapon and can’t shoot this turn.
The Tactical Squad run forward the one inch he needs for the objective…. Just.
The Devastators can just see the Demon Prince, shoot and manage to do a wound due to cover saves.
The Predator shoots and glances the Soul Grinder once.
Demons:
Kairos and the princes surge forwards on wings of pain!
Horrors decide hiding is the better part of valor and run into the bunker, they also summon a herald!
Portal Glyph tries to arrive next to the Soul Grinder, but scatters
And ends up on the far side of the table
Psychic Phase has two units of Horror summoned and a Herald mentioned earlier
Then run around a little
Turn 2 Marines:
LDP forgets Pods can come in turn 1, also has his scouts outflank
Chapter Master Draws LoS the summon horrors
And Hits
The Sternguard and Pod wreak some havoc, but don’t manage to kill the Soul Grinder, his demonic save was on form
All tactical’s shoot into the sky and take some wounds off the Demon Prince
Demons:
Demon Prince Wings his way over the Devastators and vector strikes the sergeant off the back the group, then in the following psychic phase yells at them really loud and all but two die, must have been bad breath
The Horrors in the bunker try to hide further in
The Soul Grinder moves menacingly towards the Sternguard
Then shoots and charges them only to die to Krak Grenades in the First round of combat (we counted the Drop pod as difficult terrain and therefore he struck last)
Kairos and the other Demon Prince narrowly avoid each other while flying around
Another Herald is summoned near the middle ruins group of Horrors
Turn 3 Marines:
The last two remaining Devastators pile into the Rhino and bug out, the Command Squad and Razorback head back to shoot at the prince, hoping to ground him, they don’t.
The Scouts Conga line to get more shots at the Horrors, only because LDP didn’t know how weak they really are in combat. The Sternguard head around to get a line on the Horrors.
The Predator and rotates on the spot and aims at the flying Prince, fails to hit.
All the Marines take aim at the wounded prince and manage to wound him, he fails his grounding test and plummets to earth, taking another wound in the process.
Sternguard head over to the horrors in the ruins
Sternguard Charge into the horrors hiding in the ruins
Demons:
Demon Prince Flys away without a care in the world
The Horrors in the bunker hide further back as they can, away from the drop pod and scouts
The grounded prince takes off again and flies over the rear tactical squad with Karios doing the same, casualties were had, Psychic phase has Kairos beam attach the forward most tactical squad, hitting both transports and blowing one up!
The Assaulted Horrors die quickly, the Summoned herald thinks long and hard about what might happen next
In the Psychic phase the herald manages to become a Bloodthirster who then scatters onto impassable terrain and on to ongoing reserves!
Turn 4 Marines:
Command Squad alight their ride and head over to the objectives, Followed closely by the remnants of the Devastator Squad
The Scouts get closer to the Horrors in the bunker, ready for the assault
Who then promptly fail the charge
The Sterngaurd move closer to the objective having nothing to shoot at
The Predator boosts over to the tactical squad to add fire support to try take out that one Hitpoint Prince, but fails to do anything
Demons:
The one HP Prince flies off the table, the prince from the far side swoops over the tactical squad failing to hurt anything with the fly over, Kairos heads back to his rear lines.
The Portal Glyph finally summons something! And the Blood Thirster walks on the board, no sense taking a chance with another deep strike mishap!
Another group of Horrors is summoned
Who then run around a bit?
Turn 5 Marines:
Realising that hes been shooting the wrong targets all this time LDP goes into offensive mode and starts targeting the ground troops. The Devastator remnants bail out on to an objective, the command squad also move and disembark to shoot some horrors
The Command squad start to take some names
The Sternguard get up close and personal with the summoned unit of Horrors
The rear most tactical squad embark for protection, protection from what though? The forward most squad march forward and take aim at the bastion group of Horrors
The Predator adds his weight of fire and the horrors are gone
The scouts continue the butchering of the horrors in the bunker
A lonely pair of Horrors on an objective contemplate life, love and all that jazz
The Sterngaurd almost destroy the summoned Horrors
Demons:
The Prince on one HP comes back on and vector strikes the Scouts but fails. The Blood Thirster gets all up in the grill of the Sterngaurd
Kairos flies over also failing his strike, the portal Glyph also manages another single summon
In something that will go down in history, there is one remaining sterngaurd left alive after the blood thirster flies in and takes some names!
The game ends at the end of turn 5 with a Marine Victory.

@Gits - No worries, If I had been smarter I would have had a note pad to note down the psychic phase and who kill who etc. Perhaps next time
@Cam - Yeah it really was, the 'only' detractor was my Marine Drop pod was the wrong colour for LDP's army.
@Zerg - Cheers!
@EDC - Thanks, these kroot are already doing my head in, they have the promise to be so full of detail, yet are so weak on the table they will get taken off to quickly and thus.... don't warrant a done of detail.
Update: last two days pics below Basing!

@Gits - Indeed it does, I guess a blob is a shape right
@Solar - Lucky for me I was only the remembrancer, my brother owns the demons and he was the one playing, he really enjoyed the game and learnt quite a bit.
@Mad - Happy new year bro, I would thoroughly enjoy a game, one I think we could document as well and provide for our fellow readers what do you think?
Update: So went a bit overboard and did all the bases on the kroot...

It is painful when the models that require lots of attention to detail are so easily removed from the tabletop, I find that true to a similar extent with Sternguard.

Sounds good to me Knightley
Hive Fleet Ngaro 4800 points
Cult of the Red Saviour 1700 points
Zerg Infested Terrans 2300 points
@EDC - Tell me about it, such amazing models, but like a fart in the wind they are gone.
@Solar - I know, It's just the sheer amount of them I have to do which is a little soul crushing!
@Azazalx - Love the rhyme Hold on now, shortly come the Tau
@Mad - Sweet, This month is a bust for me and I think half of Feb is a write off as well, how about tail end of Feb? would that work for you?
Update: Finished up the bases on these 25 or so Kroot just some small details very close to done
LDP and I also just powered through a 6000 point game, plenty of death, lots of shooting and heroic stands, it was a great day!
IceAngel wrote:I must say Knightley, I am very envious of your squiggle ability. I mean, if squiggles were a tactical squad, you'd be the sergeant. If squiggles were an HQ, you'd be the special character. If squiggles were a way of life, you'd be Doctor Phil...
@EDC - I think you jinxed me dude, I've got fed up doing these guys and its only the beginning!
@Azaz - They are old 25mm ones, IMO they don't need 32's as they are weak and in my view only big hitters get 32's
@Mad - Excellent, we shall stay in touch then
Update: Just the grass to do now and these ones will be done, I think I've burnt my self out batch painting 25 of them so next up will be a real treat as I have wanted to paint this next one for a while now

Repainting my kroot later this year, very interesting to see what your upto.
These look great, and I know exactly what you mean they are really, REALLY samey and difficult to batch paint in large numbers, remind me of the old days with the goff ork army a million gretchin all identical.

@Graven - Yeah, now I'm a Maniac depressive, man what a mind bender doing all these at once, next time it'll be squads of ten for sure.
@Cam - Ahh second edition, all the Grots had wooden autoguns across their chests and spiky helmets, /shudder I remember those times, I remember them well.
Update: Kroot done

As a fellow Kroot owner, I agree in how kinda boring they are to paint. But yours look aces! Congrats!

Nice looking Kroot you got there! Good inspiration for when I (eventually) paint my own!

@Gits - Thanks mate, they are on the quick side much like the necrons, but only quicker
@LDP - Hahah one can only wish, even the formation with them doesn't give me much hope. Still a 500 point game with 60 Kroot is kind of hilarious
Briancj - Many thanks, after 25 of them I've done my dash for now, perhaps I'll pick them up next month and do batches of 10
@Zerg - If I can offer any advice do smaller batches!!
Update: I'll just leave this here for you and you can make your won comments
