Nice to see a new watcher here Largblastmarker. I checked out your blog. Ultramarines huh. I have a ton of those too but they dont get much play right now.

So. I am trying to keep up the pace and finish updating everyone with all that i have been working on. One of the 40% projects that i finished was a set of fallen. Almost all of my minis are converted loyalist figures. They come to me as gifts, as by product in starter sets and from tourni winnings. These ravenwing bikers i couldnt see getting rid of. They are way cheaper than the bikes that GW sells individually AND they have the nifty front wind screens. I think that they sat on my half finished table of gloom for longer than most of my projects. However. THey are finally doe. I really am starting to like the cloaks on my Mortis Apostate. Initially i was put off by the cloak that the sarge was wearing but once i am done with this army, he will fit right in. I am also starting to sculpt a two-piece clam-shell chest piece on many of my Mortis in power armor. The fella with the bolt pistol pointing has a magnetized arm so i can swap it out for a melta or a flamer.

Questions and comments are appreciated.
p.s. Sorry the pics are so dark. gosh darn clouds outside and stuff.

Ok. Better lighting equals better pics to update my blog with.

I have been working on a terminator sorcerer of nurgle/terminator lord of nurgle for those times that a 2+ save would be nice. The Model i used for this conversion is a black reach set loyalist. I changed out the chest plate and then built up his shoulder pads with plague vents etc. The model will eventually be magnetized so that i can swap the shoulders out with other arms, however it is currently being orange tacked together. Currently the lord has lightining claw/powerfist and the sorcerer is equipped with a force scythe and pointing finger of doom. I may actually magnetize the head too so i can swap it out between the models but for now i havent made that jump yet. I still have to GS the sorcerers shoulders with plague vents and i am thinking about filling in the back of the termi armor and making some plague censors on it. In the mean time i am going to be working to get some paint on this stuff so i can use it in an upcoming game, as well as building up a biker lord with black mace.

More to come. Questions and comments are appreciated as always.

Thanks Skalk. Its funny, the knee pads that i used are identical to some that i found surfing Kraut Scientist's thread. He used the same bits and in the same fashion as i did. Hmmmm. I figure that i am going to have to work on getting all the mold lines off o there some time, and much of today i am going to spend drilling and readying it for Nurgle.

Do you think i should buff his tummy out with a paunch ala the plague marines, and or add cloven hoof's to his feet?

So i am still working on updating some of the projects that i got to work on this summer while i was out chasing owls. Last year around this time i purchased a land raider to accessorize my army with. This will be my second land raider so far to be touched by the hand of nurgle. Currently my heavy support slots are getting way overburdened but being as the forces of nurgle depend on a onslaught of troops on foot, this should not be found to be surprising. When i received this land raider it was painted green. The guy i bought if from on ebay did not tell me that the base coat primer had gone on lumpy. So i stripped what i could and have been engaged in adding boils and pustules. It is about 3/4 finished. I still need to modify the exhausts into plague vents and finish adding GS to the right side. I like how the camo rolls turned out that are attached to the top of the Raider. Unlike C:SM chapters which have a huge support system, the Mortise Apostate are a smaller warband with less support infrastructure. They sometimes use Camo netting to conceal their troops and vehicles while they are on a protracted campaign.

As Always, quesitons and comments are welcome.

at the back you can see the plague vents that need modifying and the camo netting that i feel turned out well.

Thanks Moltar

I just set out all my minis (well, my chaos minis and all the ones that were worthy of counting at this time so no WIP models that are unassembled etc) and took a group shot. The results were about what you would expect for a Nurgle army, and exactly what you would expect for the Mortise Apostate. I have 4000pts of CSM and about a 1000pts of Demons. when i finish assembling it all i will eventually have closer to 5000pts of marines etc. I still have to put together 2 defilers and about four more squads of PM. Until such time as i finish this, i currently have...

HQ.
Typhus
2 lords
3 sorcerers
2 winged demon prince
2 Greater Unclean ones

Troops
3 x 7 Plague marine squads
5 Nurgling bases
20 Plaguebearers

Elite
Dreadnaught
10 Nurgle Terminators

Fast Attack
3 Nurgle Bikes

Heavy Support
2 Landraiders
4 Nurgle Oblits
2 Defilers
Chaos Predator
2 Vindicator

Banehammer

THis seems like the right roster for a warband that broke away from the Deathguard. 9 heavy support and only one fast attack slot. Seems about right.

@Largeblastmaster ~Thanks for stopping by. I plan on covering up the imperial eagles with mud and grime.

Now, as for apocalypse. The north state gameing group out of Redding throws some really fun apoc games. They do things a little different so its not such a freeforall. Makes the game a bit less of a cluster. I am interested in the new apoc game rules. Have you tried them.?

Nice stuff Sennacherib.

I think you should resculpt the feet on that terminator into hooves. I mean, It is a sorcerer lord of nurgle. He would be blessed with mutations and such. AND for display poses you may want him to be a bit taller than everyone else so that people (judges) will be able to tell who your HQ is. I know of someone who didnt score well in a tourni , because the judges said his leader didnt stand out at all.
Looking good though. Waiting for another update.

@Skalk Bloodaxe ~ thanks for the feedback skalk. I was thinkin long and hard about the hooves too. I will try to make a mock up but its gonna be tough. As for the paunch, having looked at the mini i feel like some sort of belly is essential. Its got lots of nurgle character but i am not so sure its going to have enough...

@Orknidious ~ thanks for stopping in Nidious. When are we going to be getting a game in. Also, your vote for hooves is noted.

And to the rest of yall..
I have been trying to finish up on stuff that has been lagging, namely my whole army. it would seem that i like to modify and sculpt stuff way more than i do the painting part of the hobby. Looking back at what i have painted that i would consider to be finished, its a painfully small bit of stuff. SO... without further ado i have decided that i should at least make an effort to get stuff base coated and through the first stage of painting so that i can at least feild it without feelining like i have stuff unworthy on the table. THis of course means that i will be working to get some of my demons and my more recent projects finished.

The first of these that i am going to try and finish is this lord. I took some hints from Kraut Scientist and Biohazard, though they play Khorn, and went ahead and added some skulls to his banner. After all my Lord is not going to be wandering around skull trophyless in the grim dark of the future. This model is themed after the Death Guard Nargalax who features in the story Vox Dominus from the collection of stories titled "Treacheries of the Space Marines". Its simply the definitive description of death guard that i have found in any of the black library books. Story is awesome too.

So i wanted my lord to look like Nargalax, and this also required the addition of a tentacle or two sprouting from his upper arm. I added those, as well as some corrosion to the uppers and corners of the pauldrons. This is a variation of a technique i used on my earilier models with sand and glue. Let me know what you think.
Questions and Comments are appreciated as per the norm.

p.s. i finally found a good place to take pictures outside. Better lighting. Thanks for bearing with me.

Corrosion bubbles look good and puss-filled. Did you add that cross bar to the banner poles to attach it to the backpack or is that already sculpted on that banner bit?

Made in us
Contagious Dreadnought of Nurgle

Hell Hole Washington

@ Moltar ~ Thanks for checking in. The cross piece comes already attached to the banner (assuming you are referring to the one that is at the base of the banner where the two staffs cross and attach to the backpack). It took a little tiny bit of GS to even it out where it attaches to the backpack and to support the attachment point for greater durability.

I'm pretty happy with how the bubbles and pustules turned out. How they turn out on the completed mini is up for debate. Later i may do a tutorial for these as a detail, because they are super easy to do and i feel like small details add a lot to the finished model.

Todays update is not quite as all encompassing as some might hope. It takes me forever to paint so i just got most of the Lords body and back pack base coated. I still have a bunch of work to do on his head and shoulder pads. The black mace that he is wielding needs a lot of work. I was thinking about making it so that the head is blackened with faint whirls of yellow and green. alternatively i was considering making it aged brass. IT could go either way. I have to go and buy some corpse flesh for the banner and his head, but i figured i would post these shots now. Very much a WIP. The side shot showes the tentacles that are wrapping down from his shoulder to grasp at the haft of the mace.

Later today i may make some press molds so that i can add lots o skulls to the bases of the new terminator that i finished, prior to painting.

Questions and comments welcome as usual.

Ok. well, for better or for worse, the Lord is pretty much done being base coated. Im gonna give him a layer of Valspar clear coat, and then start work on another project. when i am ready i can always come back and finish up the shading and the highlighting but for now i feel like he is at least table ready. I magnetized him so that i wont always have to run him with the weapons that he has, but for now he is going to be wielding THE black mace and a bolt pistol. I also made a plasma pistol and a lightning claw for him to use when he needs to have a bit more ap2 shooting and slightly less CC ability. He has a treasure trove of weapons available to him since he's slaughtered tons o opposition leaders.

I will have to go back in and lighten up and gruby up the banner a bit more, and when i feel the need i am going to have to paint on the Mortise Apostate logo. I went with brass for his mace, it still needs to have a little corrosion added , But for now, here he is.

@Largeblastmarker ~ Hey there. Yeah, its only really base coated. A few places have additional highlighting and washes applied but it is by no means finished. I usually paint all the greens with a wet brush, and then apply a tiny bit of thinned down camo green. Then highlight with corpse flesh. I have to go over the banner in particular. Not my fav.
As for the mace, glad you like the brass. It turned out nice IMHO. I still have to add little tiny flecks of turquise blue to simulate corrosion.

@ Magnusthered. Thanks for the update. It looks like it went together fairly well. I was test fitting it constantly while i was assembling it. Looks great so far. I cant wait to see it base coated and painted. Did you decide on undivided paint scheme or are you still debating that. That was a super fun game too. Been reading the Apoc rules. I like em, AND i can go with you to scotts game in SF if your still down next month.

I think I am going to paint it with Undivided scheme. I think I'm going with the mostly black and gray scheme with Bronze trim. I'm going to work on some more terrain after this. Might add to the terrain with some of wall of martyrs stuff. I'll post some more pictures when I make some progress.

Awesome news about the game. I'll verify everything with Scotteos and let you know.

The tower looks excellent. I had completely forgotten about it. Nice to see an update on it.

The Lord is perfect. You've nailed the 'Veteran of the Long War' ravages of time and Chaos corruption. The small details you've done have reminded me once again that one of these days I need to go back to my Plague Marines and make them look like they are Plague Marines. My initial justification was that there are always new recruits that would not have succumbed to the corruption so soon, but rethinking what I've done and post-completed inspection made me realize that I was just cranking them out to crank them out and I should have put a LOT more effort into them. Example:

Spoiler:

Those are Plague Marines? ESPECIALLY Death Guard? A buddy of mine told me I should call them Poison Marines and consider them a Successor Chapter. Even still, they don't have the plague-ridden bloat and burst of Plague Marines.

Osrry to rant on your thread. Back on topic, you've done a great job as always and I'm looking forward to seeing what you do next, regardless of the pace.

Thanks Skalk. Mangusthered is the proud recipient of the tower which is likely to be the one and only commission effor that i produce. Hes a great friend so all that effort was worth while. Being a bit OCD on my part means that i rarely feel 100% about something, but he's really happy with the outcome, which is what matters most.

Your marines match the rest of your army perfectly. I like em. However, if you not happy you might tryjust washing them with something to dirty them up some? A wash and sponge weathering would do wonders for them. You wouldnt have to do a complete redo, just a touch up. I know what you mean though about looking at what you have and thinking about how you would do things differently. I am thinking about doing a second small chapter that will count as Black Legion. Incorporated in their construction i am thinking of using all of the little tips and tricks that i have figured out since i started on this oddessy.

QFT. I completely agree. a wash will add depth, but maybe mix with some gloss varnish to make them look slick and gross?

So i have just started work at a new job not doing much of what i went to school for but its a pay check, and i havent had much time to work on stuff, however i AM working on finishing enough stuff that by the 20th i should have a functional and fully painted chaos army. I need to boost the number of troops that i am fielding and Plague bearers are the way to go. So i based a total of 13, and started painting. This is the first of those 20. He's pretty much table ready. I sponge weathered the sword and used copious wash and dry brush to make his body look properly rotten. I was looking for a bruised look. The right side arm and leg need work but for now he's table ready. I plan to have another six done soon. And, during this whole time, i am going to be working on my soul grinder of nurgle. I have to get that done. Little by little....

I'm pretty happy with how the slab of meat that is laying on this dudes base turned out.

Thanks Largeblastmarker. It is the old plague bearer. I like the older models better than the new ones. I used to use these as lesser daemons in my CSM army prior to the newest edition. The new GW models look almost like planters peanuts of nurgle. Just not how i picture them to be.
