Your wolf head actually looks pretty okay if you compare it to the ancient wolf sculptures(google!)
However if you don't, then yeah, a crocodile. Those spikes are gonna be quite deadly don't you think?

The nurglie head is going to have a fly face with a hanging proboscis.
Thats the closest i am going to get to vomit since this isnt for me. Now if mangusthered was to want vomit, it would be negotiable.

Wow. Once again your GS skill is stunning. And the spikes look really cool.

Thanks Skalk.
Is that your Greater Clean One pictured as your avatar.?

The Wolf face still needs some work that I am going to lavish on it tonight. Then later I am going to work on the Fly head for the other god/face.

@ Kencotter. The spikes are actually going to be pretty nasy. If you were to step on this it would do some serious damage. I spoke with magnusthered whom i am doing this for, and he said to just make the whole thing bushy with spikes. However, I can see them being a bit to hazardous if you were to bump it or move to quick around it. The majority f them are going to be pretty short so I doubt that they will really be an issue.

Thanks again all for the comments and suggestions. I am going to be finishing this up pronto and then moving forward with more nurgle stuff so stay tuned.... as long as you dont mind the slow pace of updates.

I am finally in the home stretch with this tower i have been working on. Having three jobs has slowed me down a bit, but all in all the project is coming along. I figure it will be done next sat at the latest.

So i spent ages working to finish paneling all four sides of the tower. The final work, blending the platicard panels with greenstuff was probably the hardest part. One night, with the addition of a mysterious substance (aka Beer) i discovered a way of doing the blending that was way easier and faster than what i had been working with. For the future, if you need to blend GS into a crack, you can just wet your thumb and drag it really hard across the surface of the GS. It produces a smooth, seemless finish much more readily than if you try to use sculpting tools.

I was having a hard time figuring out how to fill in a large gap at the top of each panel so I used plumbers putty for that. It hardened in 5 minutes and if you wet it slightly when you are smoothing it, the finish is epic. Faster and cheaper to use than green stuff, and for using as filler, i think it works better.

Once I was done with the panels, I finished sculpting three of the four remaining chaos gods. The tower is non-denominational. I think that all the gods turned out well, but the nurgle head turned out the best IMHO. I still have to begin the Slaneesh face. I have balked at this because i have never really been good at sculpting human (much less female) features but I had never done a wolf before so i'm just going to charge it.

The spikes are really sharp. If you look carefully there is blood (human, mine ) on the tower. I filed them down but they are still really sharp. Not sure about the chain. I might be pulling that off, not sure if its really worth keeping.

The last two pics are my next project, though not a commision.

I'm not sure about the chains. Are you going to leave them as just a couple chains, or are you going to add more than that one strand that is pictured.

Seems like the model does not really require more stuff.

I was going to likely add a bunch more than just the single one i have pictured. They would stretch across the open Idol from side to side. I am likely going to be adding some banners too. I was thinking about only putting chains on the nurgle and zneech sides of the tower, and banners on the khorn slanneesh sides of the tower.

Not sure though as this is for magnusthered. Waiting for him to comment and let me know what he thinks of the chains. They will make painting a bit more difficult (not that the 104 nails i installed in the sides dont already do that, but hey).

My opinion is that the chains are awesome and there should be more, symbolic of binding Daemonic will to the temple. I don't mean random knots all over the place, but similar to the symmetry you already have going on.

@ Skalk- Thanks for the feedback. I think that the chains do add something, Though I may only do them on two sides. And I agree. not all knotted up, but carefully placed. Hows the Nurgle coming on your end. Mud season is almost over right?

@Flashman - thanks for the props. Can I ask you. Though you may or may not collect nurgle, I am thinking of sculpting and casting a nurgle soul grinder torso for sale. Would you encourage this behavior or no.

So... the sould grinder torso is getting some love. Pics of it later.

Where are these alleged soul-grinder pics. Hmm.m.

I have a question outside o the conversion you are doing. Is magnusthered one of the guys you game with up in Chico? I for one say that you should add more chains. Chains look good. As for the soulgrinder, i cant say that you would be able to sell many of them without a finished product to show off so people will know what it looks like!

I will try to post some shots of the soul grinder work that I have been doing. Maybe tomorrow.

AND YES, magnusthered is a buddy from the north state. I also agree with the assessment on the chains. Likely i will add them to only two opposing sides.

I will have the final product (ie the tower) posted here in a week or so. I have really been delaying because the stupid slanneesh face is a pain in the rear. never been good at sculpting male faces and the female slaneesh face is turning out to be a nightmare.

My jobs not bad. I live in a town of 80. we drive 4x4 around the woods at night feeding whole populations of mosquitos with our blood while listening to owl calls on a ghetto blaster.

If we ever find an owl we get to feed it a pair of mice that rattle around in a little metal bucket.

Not a bad job at all skalk.

SO i just thought it was high time to try and do an update of progress that i have had on my chaos army. I have been working to get it up to speed with the new dex which almost mandates that you play to the codex strengths. I have a ton of vehicle Heavy support but am lacking in the infantry HS catagory so i have begun to build up some filler so i can get my army back on its feet. The first of these projects is a trio of additional nurgle oblits to augment the single oblit that i put together early last year. They have been about three weeks in the making. I have been GS like wild to try and get them ready to assemble and this is about as far as i have gotten. I used SonsofOrars method of enlarging the shoutler pauldrons with plasitcard. The legs are from assault on black reach terminators and the torso's are left overs from my bitz box that i widened and extended slightly. I also added GS to the soles of their feet so that they stand a bit taller. One will be sporting the mutated limb which represents a power claw.

Thanks guys.
Right now I am struggling with my inspiration. I have about a half way finished rhino and a half way finished landraider to work on but I lack the willpower. I also have about three soulgrinders that need work and a few other projects.

However, right now I am still stuck in the far north east corner of California in a town of 80. In about 40 days my job here will be done and I will be able to access the rest of my stuff, but for now I am marooned.

So, my time being trapped up here in the frozen wastes of northern california is growing to a close. I have less than two weeks left and i will be back in civilization. Trolling my own thread i noticed that i have posted two laundry lists of stuff that i have been meaning to finish and i figured it would be interesting to see how much i actually got done from those lists in the past year. My guess is not much.

Here we go. List of stuff that i had on my radar to finish since last year around this time, AND whether it is finished or not.

1. 2 Vindicators- DONE
2. 2 Defiler -One is completed, one is half way.
3. 5 Terminators - Not Completed
4. Demon Prince with wings - Not completed, just based and base coated
5. 2 Sorcerer's with the mark of nurgle- not completed
6. Greater Demon (complete sculpt) - not even started.
7. Fortress of redemtion - DONE. This took about 45 hours to finish
8. 10 plague zombies - Three assembled. No where near done.
9. 6 nurgle bikes and a bike lord - Three assembled and Gs. Maybe half done.
10. 4 oblits - Assembled and GS.
11. DG rhino - Maybe 25% done.

I also have to assemble
another defiler - Not even close
Plague Hulk. - The torso is almost sculpted and i am moving towards beginning to cast it so that i will be able to have 3-4 of these beasts.

Drum roll please. So what did i accomplish. Hmmmm....not looking so good. 4.5/11 Somewhere around 41%.
Well at least i dont have that much i plan on doing. When i return to civilization, i will be able to post some photos but for now you have to trust me that i have finished what i said i have.

Yeah. it is warm most of the time, but the area i live in is very isolated. I live in the middle of strawberry field that stretch for 4+ miles in all directions of my barracks. They douse the fields with methyl bromide which is illegal to use for agriculture because it depletes the atmosphere of Ozone. they are using a loophole in the law (critical use exemption) to bipass the rules we have here against its use. The town is 80 people with only one small store and i am not allowed to drink beer in the barracks. I only get to see 5 people who are my boss and barracks mates. So i might as well be living in alaska or antartica for all the amenities that i get to use. We have no internet, i have to walk over and swipe it from the fire fighters that i share the compound with. But i am out of here in 11 days and back to civ. where i will immediatly begin to update my blog and sell off my space marines army (smurfs).

Thanks for checking in Yggdrazil- what do you think the market is for a cast plague robot that looks a lot like a Nurgle soul grinder demon torso that i sculpted. it coincidentally fits on top a defiler or a soulgrider replacing the turret/torsothough it is in no means ment ot infrige on or to be used to accesorise any GW parts.

Saw this thread bumped in my unread subs. Cool to see that you're heading back to the land of the living soon. Beer and Internet access are definitely perks of civilization.

Looking forward to your triumphant return to central heating and modeling space.

Hey Skalk. Glad to see you stopped by.
I am back in the realm of the not so living. Got back to civilization last night at 12:30. And after taking the morning and afternoon to take stock of my situation i figured it would be a good time to update the blog with some pics.

so while i was living in Mt. Hebron (aka the Far North) I had some spare time between getting stung by hornets and looking at bears to work on some of the many projects that i had on the drawing board. Even though my completion rate is only about 40% i feel pretty good about what i accomplished.
Sorry that the pics are not better but i cant find my tripod, moving and being gone from home for four months will do that to you. I realize that there are some mold lines i need to clean up and i need to to a little bit of corrosion detail work but for the most part these three oblits are done and ready to base and paint. They will be acting as a bodyguard for typhus when he deepstrikes into the back field to raise cane with my foes.

Now that i am back, i will be trying to update a bit more often. Next up a soul grinder of nurgle bit that i am thinking about casting for sale. What do you all think. a worthwhile pursuit.?
as always, thanks for stopping by and any Q&C is appreciated.

So, as promised this update concerns the soul grinder bit that i am thinking of casting. Would it be worthwhile to case and sell such an item. Is there a market. This is my initial effort. I am trying to make it so that you can position the arms and choose the head that you want to have with the model at the time of sale. That way people wont have to have three identical soul griders in their army. Like i said, this is an initial effort and i have learnt a lot from its production. The cable that lies on the spine is too strait and the three cables on the right pectoral look out of place. I like the head and how its coming along. ITs going to be finished off with a leering grin missing lots of teeth and a partial skull showing through in a few places. I am pretty happy with the size of the torso with respect to the rest of the model. I am also not a terrible fan of the lower body. I think i am going to make the next mock-up with a armored plate bolted across the gut, maybe with some intestines haning out from a gap at the base.

Anyways. questions and comments are welcome. Thanks for stopping by, and if you have any suggestions concerning the viability of a cast for sale version of the nurgle soul grinder pictured below, please let me know.
